Most little girls grow up playing with Barbie dolls. Some even want to look like them. One 21-year-old has become one, or so she says.

Valeria Lukyanova has become an internet sensation in her home country of Russia, claiming on her blog to be the most famed woman on the Russian-language internet.

Her doll-like features, long blonde hair and ‘perfect’ body make her look like a real life Barbie.

In fact, with her tiny waist and large breasts, she bears such a resemblance to the famed plastic doll that cynical web users have been speculating about whether or not she is real.

In a spoof video posted on YouTube an animated version of the model undergoes surgery to enhance her already prominent assets.

The girl checks into a plastic surgeons office. As she lies on an operating table, the ‘surgeon’ uses a hand-held pump to enlarge her breasts, before giving her a face-lift using putty and a chainsaw.

Photoshop? Valeria’s face looks almost like a mask, prompting speculation that she might not be real

Proportions: Valeria’s figure is much like that of a Barbie doll, with a tiny waist and large breasts

Twins: Her bright blue eyes and long blonde hair are almost identical to that of the traditional Barbie doll

Famous? Valeria has 155 subscribers to her Facebook page but only 78 friends

Horrified viewers have slammed the model over her looks. One commented: She looks not only ugly, but ridiculous while another wrote: ‘A woman with completely perfect features is a boring woman.’

Others were kinder to the blonde beauty. One asked: ‘Isn’t unhealthy obsession on looking like a Barbie doll a part of her identity though?’

But the big question remains unanswered: Is Valeria real or is this an elaborate Photoshop hoax?
More ‘normal’ photos on her Facebook page of the 21-year-old wearing far less make-up suggest she does exists.

A YouTube video shows the transformation as she dolls herself up.

Genuine? Some pictures look more posed than others, like this one in a nightclub

Made-up: Valeria looks glamorous even when she goes for a swimValeria has 155 subscribers following her profile on the social networking website – double the number of friends she has at 78.One fan, a man named Firtina Seymen has ‘liked’ virtually all of her photos and written ‘beautiful’ underneath them.

Photos have also been posted on her blog, on which she writes about making music and meditation. According to NMA.TV she is seeking out followers in France and elsewhere in Europe.

Philadelphia police announced today they had arrested a suspect in an attempted child abduction that was caught on tape, and that the suspect had turned himself in because he couldn’t “walk, talk or breathe” after the video aired yesterday on local media and ABC News.

Carlos Figueroa-Fagot of Philadelphia will be charged with attempted kidnapping, indecent assault and unlawful restraint among other crimes in connection with a Tuesday incident in which a 10-year-old girl was attacked on a South Philadelphia street. He has not yet entered a plea.

Capt. John Darby of the Special Victims Unit said that Figueroa-Fagot had turned himself in at midnight Wednesday after local media and the ABC News network aired the video Wednesday evening. “He felt that he could not walk, talk or breathe with that out there on the street. He made himself available to us last night.”

Mayor Michael Nutter credited the police, public and the media for helping pressure the suspect to come forward. According to police, tips began pouring in as soon as the video was made public.

As seen in the video, a 10-year-old girl and her 2-year-old brother were walking back from buying sweets in South Philadelphia on Tuesday when a man suddenly came from behind and tried to make off with the terrified girl.

He placed his hand over her mouth lifted her from the ground and, as the girl’s brother screamed, the man stumbled as he tried to drag the girl towards his car. After struggling for a brief period, the man eventually gave up and fled the scene.

Capt. Darby said the victim had been a “real trooper since the incident,” and had credited her little brother’s scream with saving her.

“It’s a sick individual to do something like that,” Mayor Nutter said at a press conference yesterday. “I want this creep off our streets immediately.”

“Our children must be able to walk around their own neighborhood without lowlifes like this individual coming up and grabbing them, touching them, or doing anything else. It’s completely unacceptable, totally outrageous, we need the public’s help,” Nutter said.

Nutter offered a $10,000 reward for the capture of the failed kidnapper.

The Philadelphia Police Department has been a pioneer in the use of YouTube and social media, including Twitter and Facebook, to help solve crimes. Their Facebook page has more hits than any law enforcement page except the FBI page. Since last February they have used the wide distribution of video and social media to catch 87 suspects, including alleged murderers and rapists.

Two unrelated murder cases were solved by surveillance tape from one corner store. In one case, the suspect’s own mother turned him in after seeing her son one on tape. In the other, a rape and murder was solved when a neighbor recognized the man who was following the victim.

When Bas Slabbers was attacked on a city bus in late May, no one on the bus would assist him or call 911. After police released video of the attack via social media, however, they got several tips about the identity of the attacker and made an arrest. Witnesses apparently didn’t want to risk getting involved while the crime was occurring on the bus, but were willing to identify the attacker electronically.

A Heathrow airport hotel receptionist who hid in a bed for two days after killing two of his colleagues has been found guilty of their murder.

Attila Ban, 32, stabbed to death Tibor Vass and Alice Adams in the Radisson Edwardian Hotel’s staff accommodation last August, the Old Bailey heard.

Ban evaded police, investigators and a pathologist by climbing into a divan bed, which Mr Vass’s body was lying on.

Miss Adams had been stabbed 22 times. All three had worked at the hotel.

Ban had denied murder but admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Mr Vass, a student from Hungary, had been due to return home.

The court heard that Ban, who is also Hungarian, had developed a crush on Mr Vass and was devastated when he found out that he was due to leave. Mr Vass was heterosexual and did not return his feelings.

Miss Adams, of Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, had only been working at the hotel for three weeks. She was described as popular and fun-loving.

Ban was described as cold and manipulative by Det Insp John Finch who said Ban was obsessed with Mr Vass and may have thought: “If I can’t have him, no-one can.”

Police were called after Ban, who had climbed into the bed with his mobile phone and a bottle of water, updated his Facebook page, saying “I would like to wake up from this nightmare”, and all three failed to turn up for work.

‘Strange and bizarre’

Of Ban hiding in the bed, prosecutor Richard Whittam, QC, said: “He must have been there throughout the attendance of the pathologist, the removal of the bodies and the examination of the scene by crime scene examiners.

“He had the presence of mind to have concealed himself effectively and to remain undetected throughout the time they were on the premises.”

The court heard that Ban, who was voted employee of the year on feedback forms from customers, had also cut a small slit in the side of the mattress so he could see what was happening.

After the bodies were moved, he crawled out from the bed and cut his wrists and neck in an unsuccessful suicide bid before he was found.

Speaking outside the court, Mr Finch said police had not been negligent for not looking under the bed.

“I have looked back at this several times with senior management. It was such a strange and bizarre thing for a person to do. It beggars belief.”

He said crime scene examiners would lose crucial forensic evidence if they lifted up beds looking for people who were not there.

He added: “I would not want anyone to do anything differently in the future.”

Miss Adams was found on the living-room floor with a cushion over her face like a “discarded rag doll” while Tibor was killed on a sofa and carried into the bedroom, where he was carefully laid on one of the two beds in the room.

Ban cut a slit into the bed so that he could monitor the investigation outside

The bodies had been the last things to be moved after the forensic work was completed.

It is not known why he killed Miss Adams.

Speaking in court, Miss Adams’ mother Sara read out an impact statement which said: “My heart is broken. My life will always be tinged with sadness.”

She added: “The most difficult thing to cope with is not knowing exactly what happened to my lovely Alice that night.

“Horrific as it would be to hear, the truth would be preferable to the constant struggle going on in my mind of trying to figure out the sequence of events leading up to Alice’s murder.”

Rozalia Vass said of her son: “It was impossible and devastating to believe something like this could happen.

“Previously, it was comforting for me to know that Tibor found a good friend in London who was mature, friendly and intelligent.

“His friend promised me personally to look after my son and not to let anything happen to him.

“I trusted him and regarded him as my own child.”
