On July 8, 2010, Mel Turpin a former NBA player committed suicide in his Lexington, Kentucky house. Mel Turpin was 49. Mel Turpin is a 6-foot-11 center who graduated from the University of Kentucky. He was the 6th pick in a 1984 draft by the Washington Bullets. At first he was a player of the Washington Bullets but, later on he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers before he was even able to play a game for Washington. Mel Turpin’s career downfall started when he got injured. Soon after that, his performance was poor and he gained a lot of weight which led to the alias “Dinner bell Mel” Turpin. He was out of the league before 1990.
