The man suspected of killing six people, including his wife and two children, in Jersey has been named locally as Damian Rzeszowski.
The victims are believed to include his wife, named as Izabela Rzeszowska, their two young children, his father-in-law and two family friends.
They were all stabbed to death in St Helier on Sunday afternoon.
Friends of the family named the suspect, 30, during a church service near to the spot where the attacks took place.
Detectives are waiting to question Rzeszowski in hospital, where he is in a serious but stable condition after surgery.
He has been formally arrested in his hospital bed and is currently under armed guard.
Police have confirmed that he and the victims were all of Polish origin and the victims were from two families.
Izabela had posted a heartfelt message written in Polish on her Facebook page on July 21.
Translated, it reads: “I love you more than life, holding each other’s hands we’ll overcome everything because you are my life, my faith, my humbleness and above all my other half.”
Brunt added that the family had only returned from Poland in the last day or so.
Police have yet to formally identify the victims and it is still unclear what led up to the attack.
Family friend Marlena Bartus, who was at the church service on Monday night, described them as “almost the perfect family”.
“They were a lovely family, lovely kids… The children loved playing with their Mega Bloks and he used to push them in a trailer. The way we had seen him, he was a really good father.”

Her husband Jakub added: “It is so sad, this is something that should not happen. There are lots of questions that need to be answered.
“It’s such a tragedy. I can’t understand why the kids were involved. This is not about them, they are innocent.”
Mrs Bartus said she believed the boy was aged about two and the daughter was about five or six.
Neighbours have claimed the attack spilled from a flat in St Helier onto the street on Sunday afternoon.

A neighbour, who would only give his first name of John, said he had run from his garden nearby when he heard a woman screaming.
“She shouted: ‘please help me, please God help me’,” he said.
Mike Bowron, chief officer for Jersey Police, has called for local communities to remain “dignified and calm”.
“Jersey is an incredibly safe place, one of the safest in the western world, and incidents of this nature are exceptionally rare,” he said.
“It makes such a tragedy even more difficult for people to come to terms with.”
