Canadian actor Jackie Burroughs, perhaps best known for her roles on the television shows Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea, has died.
Burroughs died Wednesday afternoon in her Toronto home after suffering from stomach cancer. She was 71.
Burroughs, who was born in England, played Amelia Evans in Anne of Green Gables and Hetty King in Road to Avonlea. She also appeared in films such as The Dead Zone, The Grey Fox and did voice-over work in Heavy Metal.
Her IMDB page shows that she worked steadily until her death, including roles on Due South, Smallville, Dead Like Me, and movies Fever Pitch and The Sentinel.
She won a Gemini in 2002 for supporting actress in a dramatic show or mini-series for Further Tales of the City. She also won in 1990, 1992 and 1994 for her role on Road to Avonlea. She also won three Genie awards for her perfomances on A Winter Tan, The Wars and The Grey Fox.
Burroughs was married to musician Zal Yanovsky, who died in 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Zoe.
