Jessie J is in the studio with production team Stargate and songwriters Sia and Diane Warren.

The ‘Price Tag’ star is currently recording her second album, and tweeted from the studio where she is writing with Norwegian production team Stargate, ‘Titanium’ star Sia and Diane, famed for writing ballads for Celine Dion, Aerosmith, LeAnne Rimes and Toni Braxton.

Diane tweeted: ‘Jessie J is f—ing singing her ass off right now!!!! (sic)’

Jessie later tweeted: ‘Stargate + Sia + me + studio + writing + production + singing + living #livingthedream (sic).’

Australian star Sia is another songwriter, who as well as working with David Guetta has written tracks for Christina Aguilera and Rihanna’s latest single, ‘Diamonds’.

Jessie has previously told how she hopes to collaborate on some tracks of the album, saying: ‘I want to get Ed Sheeran and Tinie Tempah on there but I’d also love to work with Rihanna and Beyonce.

‘It has to happen organically, depending on who’s around.’

The 24-year-old singer also admitted she is worried about the pressure of creating a follow up to debut ‘Who You Are’, released in 2011.

She said: ‘It took me seven years to get people interested in the first album so the pressure weighs heavy on my shoulders with the anticipation of the second.’

Lady GaGa has once again hit back at those who have criticised her weight during her Born This Way Ball show in Zurich, Switzerland over the weekend.

Before launching into a stripped-back version of song Hair, the Poker Face star asked her fans to celebrate for “30 more years” of her being called “fat” and a “sl*t” – after being slammed by the worldwide press and political figures.

She told her crowd: “They won’t kill me. They won’t stop me from speaking my mind. I will make music for you for the next 30 years.

“You know, so for like, let’s cheers. Let’s celebrate. To 30 more years of them calling me a sl*t. To 30 more years of them calling me a fat, attention-seeking wh*re.”

Lady G added: “To 30 more years of people telling me to shut my mouth about equality and gay rights. May we say cheers and celebrate 30 more years of the conversation that we’ve started that we’re never gonna finish.”

The Marry The Night singer recently posted a series of underwear snaps online, hitting back at weight gain criticism to prove she’s “proud at any size.”

Earlier today (2nd October), we reported how GaGa’s boyfriend Taylor Kinney opened up about his romance with the 26-year old, stating: “I’m in a relationship, and I’m happy. Everything is great!”

Rihanna has confirmed that her next single will be called Diamonds and will get its first airing on US radio on Wednesday 26 September.

According to Digital Spy, the We Found Love singer revealed the news during an interview at iHeartRadio‘s annual music festival in Las Vegas yesterday.

Speaking about the new track – which she says is “happy and hippy” – RiRi said: “It’s laid-back but it’s hopeful. It’s a record that… gives me such a great feeling when I listen to it.

“The lyrics are very hopeful and positive, but it’s about love and… a little different to what people would expect, I think.”

She added: “I’m excited about that. I’m excited to surprise them sonically.”

The pop superstar also revealed that the secret to her success is simply that she “loves great music”.

Rihanna explained: “When I make an album, that’s what I think about; what I want to hear, what I love to hear.

“I think that’s what my fans love… I always want to make it interesting for them. I always want to make it a little fresh and a little ahead of what’s on the radio.”

RiRi’s seventh studio album is expected to go on sale in November.

“This guy looks like he was created by Wes Anderson,” says Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach as Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker gambols across the stage. It’s a couple of hours before the duo’s show on the first night of this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney are hanging on a couch in a backstage trailer, checking out Pulp’s opening set on a flat-screen TV.

“Holy smokes,” Auerbach continues, as Cocker gesticulates at the huge crowd just a few yards from where the Keys sit. “Man, he’s going for it.”

Carney stares at the screen. “Maybe we should take some theater lessons.”

“I know, man,” says Auerbach with a wry grin. “We suck.”

This year marked the Black Keys’ fifth trip to Coachella, and their debut as mainstage headliners. “I like to remember the first time we played Coachella, in ’04,” Carney says. “It was hot as fucking balls. We were sweating our asses off, and there were very few people there.”

“It was in a tent with no ventilation,” Auerbach adds. “It was the kind of hot where you’re completely drenched, except for the top of your head where the heat’s coming out of.”

Carney chuckles. “So if we can make it through that, which is basically, like, Navy SEALs hell week for rock & roll – this is, like, the Palm Springs retirement.”

“Yeah,” Auerbach says. “We made it. We’re, like, super-tough now. Tough as nails.”

Tonight, the Keys return to Coachella as the festival expands for the first time to a two-weekend blow-out. “We actually had a blue-light special at our agent’s office,” Carney deadpans. “Buy one, you get two.”

But they weren’t planning any major setlist changes. Says Carney, “We were told not one person from this festival will be there next weekend.”

“That’s what they told us,” Auerbach adds slyly. “We’ve also been told that 99 percent of the people here came to see us. We’ve also been told that we’re Number One on the radio everywhere. We’ve surrounded ourselves with yes-men.”

Carney struggles to keep a straight face. “Yeah. We actually hired some of LeBron’s old people.”

The Keys have a busy year ahead, with gigs booked in Europe, North America and Australia, but they hope to get cracking on the follow-up to this year’s El Camino during breaks from the road. “We’re going to start soon,” Carney says. “We’re not sure how long it’ll take, but I think we’d both like to put another record out next year. We’ve got to keep rolling the dice.”

“Daddy needs a new car,” says Auerbach.

“Yeah,” Carney adds. “We have to buy our dads new Yugos.”

Only a few days old and young Blue Ivy Carter has already clocked in a duet with her big poppa. On Monday (January 9), Jay-Z dropped “Glory” featuring B.I.C. on his Life and Times blog.

Over a simple but soulful loop, Jay dedicates his bars to he and Beyoncé‘s newborn daughter. “The most amazing feeling I feel/ Words can’t describe the feeling, for real/ Baby I’ll paint the sky blue/ My most greatest creation was you,” Hov begins over the Pharrell-produced track.

For the heartfelt dedication, Jigga employs a slow flow, rhyming almost as if in spoken word. The measured pace only helps to intensify the emotion. Hov goes on to rhyme about the “false alarms” and “false start” that he and B faced leading up to the birth of the couple’s first child. As guarded as Jay has been throughout the entire pregnancy, he opens about the couple’s intimate moments, painting a picture of Baby Blue dancing in B’s belly and then playfully asking, “Did you wiggle your hands for her?”

The Brooklyn-bred MC goes on to look back on his own troubled past, wishing that he had prayed more, but seemingly thankful that all of the drama of his drug-dealing past is behind him so he could enjoy the moment. “A younger, smarter, faster me,” he describes his new bundle of joy.

Jay-Z goes even deeper and doesn’t hold back. In the song’s final verse, he tells little Ms. Blue Ivy of her grandfather’s demise, telling her that despite being an absentee father, “deep down” Adnis Reeves was “a good man.” Jay goes on to tell his baby girl that she was conceived in Paris and even opens up about a “miscarriage.”

And he doesn’t hold back when he delivers a healthy brand of lyricism, spitting, “You’re my child with the child from Destiny’s Child/ That’s a hell of a recipe.”

As the song fades out, baby Blue Ivy makes her first appearance on record, crying and cooing as Pharrell brings the drums and soul sample to a close. Glorious.

Rocker Jani Lane has passed away at the age of 47. The former Warrant lead singer, who wrote the ’80s glam rock band’s hits “Cherry Pie” and “I Saw Red”, was found dead at a hotel in Los Angeles on Thursday evening, August 11, TMZ reported.

His body was discovered at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, California. No official cause of death has been released, but he did have a history of alcohol abuse. In 2010, he was ordered to serve 120 days in jail after he was being arrested for DUI for the second time in two years.

Lane, whose real name is John Kennedy Oswald, has separated and reunited with Warrant on several occasions. He temporarily left the band in 1992, before returning in 1994. He left again in January 2004, only to return for a short while in 2008.

The rocker has released one solo album titled “Back Down to One”. He made an appearance on VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club” in 2005, and served as a stand-in lead singer for Great White on their tour in the summer of 2010.

Aug 1, 2011   12:00 PM ET

Similar to how he brought in his last album Thank Me Later with “Over“—a cut that didn’t scream “pop smash!” but was a quality tone-setter—Canadian rhymer Drake dropped the first single from his forthcoming sophomore album Take Care this weekend.

The cut, “Headlines,” is a menacing beginning for the highly anticipated set. Aware of those who think his decline is imminent, Drake kicks his first verse off by saying that the negativity surrounding him is actually motivation to continue on his hot streak. Finding his groove shouldn’t be too difficult, considering he’s featured on “I’m On One.” It’s the biggest rap record of the summer. Still, he asks for help.

“I had someone tell me I fell off/ Oh, I needed that / And the they want to see me pick back up/ Well, where’d I leave it at?” he raps melodically. Listen here:

As usual, Drake’s vocals switch lanes—swerving in and out of spitting rhymes and crooning the “They know” hook. It’s a solid record and wonderful warm-up. But it’s certainly not one I expect to reach the top 10 on the Billboard hot 100 singles chart. I’ll be on the lookout for his second single, which will likely be the pop one he’ll ride into the stores when Take Care drops October 24.

And is if fans need more reasons to be excited about Drizzy’s Care, this morning news hit that iconic soul singer Stevie Wonder assisted with several songs on the record.

“I’m honored to call him a friend, someone who embraced me very early in this music business,” Drake told MuchMusic. “Stevie Wonder is actually on Take Care. He helped me out with a lot of the music, just came and sat with me, listened to my music, told me where I could add a couple things to make it more sonically appealing, and not only that but we actually are writing together, which is an incredible experience.”

Something tells me there are going to be a lot of people in a lot of places talking about Lily Anderson this weekend. Watch as the brave 10-year-old sings the national anthem before Thursday’s Atlanta Braves game at Turner Field — and then receive what Braves reliever Peter Moylan(notes) describes as “the longest standing ovation I’ve witnessed.”

Anderson was singing the anthem as part of Thursday’s “Rally Night” at the ballpark. Before the game, catcher Brian McCann(notes) met with “Rally Kids,” children who are battling cancer, and funds were raised in the fight against the disease.

According to PrayforLilyAnderson.com, Lily was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma in 2009 and has had to go through difficult rounds of chemotherapy and surgery.

But as is apparent from the video, there’s much more to Lily Anderson:

[Lily] thinks peace signs are really cool, loves turtles and playing with her friends. She loves to ride dirt bikes with her Dad, and looks forward to the weekly Sunday visits with her Grandma and Grandpa. Lime green is her very favorite color and as with most girls her age, clothes are really special; in fact she is often known by her nickname “Style Anderson.”

You can also learn more about Lily on her Facebook fan page, but for now I’d just like to compliment her on a job well done. She has definitely inspired a lot of people — not only with her song on Thursday night, but with her entire fight against cancer.

Each letter of the first name rules 9 years of life.  Ages 0 to 27 are ruled by the sum of the first three letters of the name and the month of birth.

Lily Anderson       May 26th, 2001

12 (L is the 12th letter of the alphabet) + 9 (i is the 9th letter of the alphabet) + 12 (l is the 12th letter of the alphabet) + 5 (May) = 38

So the number 38 rules her ages zero to twenty-seven.

38 = Cancer.  Hugs.  Caring.  Take care.

Amy Winehouse

24 July 2011   06:54 ET

Amy Winehouse joins iconic stars who died aged 27

The death of singer Amy Winehouse, after her long battle with drink and drugs, means the Londoner joins a significant number of troubled musicians to die at the age of 27.

The list of stars who have died at this early stage in their life covers a range of eras and styles but one thing they have in common is that they had a huge influence on music during their short careers.

The ultimate rock ‘n’ roll expression “live fast, die young” – which actually dates from the 1949 Humphrey Bogart movie Knock On Any Door – is often quoted in the cases of five other musicians who left their fans wanting more at the age of 27.

Brian Jones (1942-1969)

Brian Jones

One of the founding members of The Rolling Stones, he was best known for his guitar and harmonica playing in the band.

He had also initially doubled up as the business manager of the group – earning more than the other members. But when Andrew Loog Oldham was appointed as manager, Jones became renowned as much for his heavy drug use as for his musical contribution to the band.

When in June 1969, the other members decided that they needed a reliable lead guitarist for their upcoming tour, the 27-year-old was replaced in the band by Mick Taylor.

Less than a month later, the star was found dead in the swimming pool at his home at Cotchford Farm, in Hartfield, Sussex

A coroner ruled his death was caused by “misadventure” and also noted that Jones’s liver and heart were heavily enlarged by drug and alcohol abuse.

A film, Stoned, released in 2005, claimed Jones was killed by his builder, Frank Thorogood, to whom he owed money. Mr Thorogood was also said to have made a deathbed confession in 1993. But despite a police review of the case, no further action was taken.

Janis Joplin (1943-1970)

Janis Joplin

At the height of her career, the singer was known as the Queen of Rock and Roll and the Queen of Psychedelic Soul.

Joplin’s body was discovered by her road manager John Cooke at the Landmark Motor Hotel in Los Angeles.

The singer had a heavy addiction to heroin and it was claimed she would inject up to $200 worth of the drug per day.

It was the drug that eventually killed her, according to the official coroner’s report.

Cooke has always maintained that Joplin died from a dose of heroin stronger than normal, as several of her dealer’s other customers also overdosed that week.

Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970)

Jimi Hendrix

Widely regarded as one of the greatest electric guitarists in musical history, Hendrix was also well known for his sense of style.

The official post-mortem examination report stated that he had choked on his own vomit.

In 2009, Animals roadie James Wright – also known as Tappy – wrote a book claiming Hendrix has been murdered.

He suggested that Hendrix’s manager Mike Jeffery had admitted that the star had been killed because he had wanted to end his management contract.

But Mr Jeffery’s assistant manager later said the story was made up to boost sales of the book.

Jim Morrison (1943-1971)

Jim Morrison

The Doors frontman, who would often improvise poems while on stage, was found dead in a bathtub in a Paris flat.

No official post-mortem examination was carried out because the medic who was called to the scene claimed there was no evidence of foul play and ruled that heart failure was the cause of death.

Since then, much has been written about his death with friends of the star claiming he died of a drug overdose.

Some believed the musician, who suffered from asthma, had been suffering from a respiratory condition which led to him coughing up blood and choking on it.

Kurt Cobain (1967-1994)

Kurt Cobain

The US songwriter was best known as the lead singer in grunge band Nirvana.

His heroin addiction and battle with depression was well documented.

In 1994 an electrician, who had arrived to install a security system at Cobain’s house, discovered the star’s body.

A shotgun was found lying on his chest and the coroner ruled he had died from a gun wound to his head and concluded the death to be a suicide.

Conspiracy theories surrounding his death began to surface after a private investigator, employed by Cobain’s wife Courtney Love, suggested it had been murder.

Coheed
and Cambria bassist Michael Todd
was arraigned Monday (July 11) in a
Massachusetts court, one day after he was arrested for allegedly robbing a
Walgreens pharmacy just hours before his band was set to open a show for
Soundgarden.

Todd appeared in Attleboro District Court, where the charges against him —
armed robbery and unlawful possession of prescription narcotics — were
officially read. Judge Daniel O’Shea also increased Todd’s bail from $10,000 to
$25,000 cash, citing the musician’s out-of-state addresses and past record,
which includes a previous conviction for drug possession and an arrest for
reckless driving.

According to Attleboro’s Sun Chronicle, assistant district attorney Mark Donovan
requested Todd’s bail be raised to $100,000 cash, but local attorney Sandra
Ferreira, who represented Todd at the bail hearing, pleaded that the amount
remain at $10,000, arguing that he lives in New York state with his parents, has
relatives in Cape Cod and would appear in court as required. Attleboro police
said he had originally given them an Anaheim, California, address for his
primary residence.

Todd is being held on the $25,000 bond and is due back in court to answer the
charges against him on August 9. Messages left for Ferreira were not responded
to by press time.

Todd was arrested Sunday afternoon allegedly entering a Walgreens, showing a
pharmacist a BlackBerry note that said he had a bomb and demanding OxyContin. He
was given six bottles of the prescription painkiller and hopped into a cab bound
for the Comcast Center in nearby Mansfield, Massachusetts, where Coheed and
Cambria were set to open for reunited grunge gods Soundgarden. He was then taken
into custody after being identified by the cab driver and the pharmacist via
security-camera footage taken from inside the store.

Coheed played their Sunday night set with multi-instrumentalist Wes Styles
filling in for Todd on bass, and later wrote on their website that they planned to continue the tour without him.

Lil B, the Berkeley, Calif.-born rapper who released the surprise hit “Vans” while part of hip hop group the Pack in 2006 and has won solo stardom through MySpace hits like “Wonton Soup,” just dropped a new album, and it’s won us over at BlogPost in more ways than one.

Post music critic Chris Richards interviewed Lil B just before his concert in the District last October, writing that despite his need to hyper-share, Lil B “manages to imbue his music with a sense of intimacy, tempering oddball boasts with warmth and enthusiasm.”

Lil B released his enthusiastic new album “I’m Gay (I’m Happy)” on iTunes yesterday. Here’s why we love it:

1.  His message

Lil B, who is heterosexual, chose the title “I’m Gay” for his album to send a message. Lil B told CNN:

I hope that I can turn some of my fans that might be homophobic or supporters that might be homophobic and say, “You know what, we’re all one people. This is love.” It’s just respect, and I did that to bring people together and bring more love and to spark the minds of people and not let words and judgments and stereotypes stop you from loving.

2. The album cover

The cover art of the album is an homage to Marvin Gaye’s song “I Want You,” featuring Ernie Barnes’s painting “Sugar Shack,” which the Awl points out was also featured in the opening credits of the TV Show “Good Times.”

Of course, Lil B isn’t the first to resurrect Gaye 40 years after the album “What’s Going On” that changed us all. Kanye West just got a hit out of a song entitled “Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay.”

3. He did it on his own

Music blog Complex writes: “Lil B just did the unthinkable and released his debut retail album “I’m Gay” on his own, out of nowhere.”

One fan tweeted:

Lil B released his retail album without it leaking. After over a decade of trying, no major record label has figured out how to do this.less than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet ReplyBrendan Frederick

4. And….the music

The three tracks we’ve heard have affirmed that Lil B could, indeed, fit into the genre of hipster rap, but that doesn’t mean we don’t like it. Unfortunately, the tracks are all expletive-laden, so we can’t embed them below. But we leave you with these lyrics from his track “I Hate Myself”:

“I’m ready to give up my old thoughts/I’ma move past what a saw/I’ma do what a want and be happy/I’m not gonna rob or kill to survive/Everything I seen was a lie/I’m not ready to die/I love myself…”

Florence Welch possesses a voice of such fullness and power than it has only taken a bit more than a year for people to stop trying to find comparisons to describe her and start using her as a reference for other singers. The Florence + The Machine frontwoman’s voice worked quite well in the open air of the Bank Of America Pavilion last night, gaining in size without losing its definition in front of a sold-out crowd.

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE with Twin Shadow

At: Bank Of America Pavilion,

Last night

Welch gave  a visual feast as well as a sonic one. Her sheer yellow dress (complete with cape) rippled in the wind, and she seemed to make no nonpurposeful movements: either she flowed with deliberateness or made distinct actions — such as throwing her arm in the air or balling her fist — for specific emphasis. Unusual for a show at the Pavilion, there were no video screens projecting the action for the more distant seats, but it was hard to miss nonetheless.

Easier to overlook was the band behind Welch, which subtly but effectively let the singer to shine. Drummer Chris Hayden was especially invaluable, ratcheting up the tension by often avoiding his snare whenever possible. It resulted in a level of drama worthy of Kate Bush on “Cosmic Love,’’ the moody and driving new “What The Water Gave Me’’ and “Strangeness And Charm,’’ in which rumbling verses gave way to a chorus with an energized boost of tension that was never quite released.

Despite the darkness coursing through songs like those and “I’m Not Calling You A Liar’’ (which with its acoustic guitar and plucked, swinging harp was nearly a minor-key English folk ballad), the results were ultimately life-affirming. Welch herself was in high spirits, giving herself the giggles while getting the audience  to repeatedly make lobster claws with their hands. And closer “Dog Days Are Over’’ sent the audience home on a wave of pure joy, as well as possibly the most identifiable harp part in rock history.

Between 1997 and 2005, Missy Elliott put out six studio albums, never pausing
for more than two years between LPs. But it’s been six years since The
Cookbook
, and though the innovative rapper/producer guested on a handful of
tracks including Ciara’s “Work” and kept up with fans via Twitter, we haven’t
seen that much of Miss E for a very legitimate reason: She’s been battling
Graves disease, an incurable autoimmune disorder caused by an overactive
thyroid.

Elliott will open up about her experience with Graves and other sticky
subjects in a new episode of VH1’s Behind the Music next week. In the
latest issue of People, she explains she was diagnosed in 2008 after a scary
moment in her car: “My leg was jumping,” she said. “I couldn’t keep the brake
down and almost crashed.” Graves symptoms include muscle tremors, mood swings,
bulging eyes, and hair loss, and Elliott said her nervous system became so
spastic, she couldn’t even hold a pen to write music — a crushing situation for
an artist as prolific and wildly creative as Missy.

After receiving radiation and taking medication with unpleasant side effects
like weight gain, Elliott’s condition has stabilized and she’s even shed the 30
extra pounds she picked up from her treatment. She has told fans on Twitter a new single is coming soon, and reminded them she hasn’t been totally inactive the past few
years: “I’m always making music:) yall gotta start peeping the credits on these
cds:).” She promises she’s not rusty, telling People, “My ear ain’t gone bad
yet!”

Elliott’s Behind the Music will also address the sexual abuse she
endured as a child, a topic the rapper hasn’t spoken about much publicly before.
By sharing her story, “I felt that I would be able to help other people,” she
told the magazine. Timbaland, Ciara and Mary J. Blige will chat about their
friend and collaborator in the special, which premieres on VH1 Wednesday, June
29th at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

The results show for “The Voice” was only an hour on
Wednesday night, but I swear there were more surprises packed into those 60
minutes than all the previous shows combined.

The results show started off with the eight remaining contestants singing
George Michael’s “Freedom.” Nakia and Vicci Martinez from Team Cee Lo belted out
their lines, and then came Beverly McClellan and Frenchie Davis from Team
Christina singing their parts.

Javier Colon and Casey Weston from Team Adam joined in, and soon after Xenia
and Dia Frampton of Team Blake did their thing. It was amazing yet weird to see
so many different styles singing that one song at the same time. And let me tell
you, I had to savor that moment with all the artists because it was the last
time we would see all eight semi-finalists on stage and performing together.

Right after the group song the tone of the show changed. It was eliminations
time! But first a quick refresher course on how the scoring process works. On
Tuesday Carson reminded everyone that each judge had 100 points to split among
both of their remaining two artists.

The coach could split it 50-50 or award one contestant a higher percentage
than the other. Those scores that the artists received from their coaches would
then be added to the scores they received from the public. And, obviously,
whoever has the highest totals remains and moves on to the Finals next week.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s start with the shocker of the
night which was brought to us courtesy Adam Levine. He made a decision that
earned him enemies and friends in one big swoop. Adam was asked to reveal his
scores for his team members, Casey Weston and Javier Colon, and guess what he
gave? Casey got 35 and Javier had 65!

Immediately the audience gasped. So much so that Adam immediately said: “I
know that looks bad Casey but let me explain. I had to play the game a little
bit. I had to make sure he advanced to (the finals).”

Adam then went on to say that Casey is only 18-years-old and has her whole
life ahead of her and will have many chances. So he said he wasn’t worried about
her at all. But he felt Javier had been around longer and had many more setbacks
and dreams interrupted so to speak. Adam simply didn’t want to see that
happening to Javier again.

So he did what he had to in order to see Javier make it to the Finals – so
much for America choosing a winner, eh? Although I feel this was cheating just a
teeny bit, I’ll admit I’m happy to see that Javier will have a chance to finally
succeed in the music industry.

After that shocker we got tears from Team Christina. Frenchie and Beverly
took the stage and held hands as they waited for their fate. But before the
results Beverly got emotional as she discussed the friendship she has developed
with Frenchie. You could literally see the tears welling up in her eyes.

And then the results: Christina delivered an even split between the two
ladies, leaving the decision to the voters. Once Christina’s score was added to
the votes from viewers, it was 93 to 107 in favor of Beverly! Christina jumped
out of her big red leather chair and took the stage and hugged Frenchie. She
then turned to Beverly and then looked at the audience and said “this woman is
going to bring the house down next week!”

Xenia and Dia on Team Blake and Nakia and Vicci on Team CeeLo were the only
two teams left. Let’s take Team Cee Lo first. Before Carson Daly could even get
to the results, Cee Lo insisted on reading a poem he wrote for his two remaining
members. It was a poem that mixed humor with inspiration and deep gratitude.
Nice touch right before the eliminations.

Cee Lo ends up giving Vicci 49 points and Nakia 51. Cee Lo explained that he
felt the drums in Vicci’s performance last night slightly overpowered her
performance and it was hard for him to hear it. But then he went on to say that
if he could take it back right now he would and award them both 50-50.

Then Vicci and Nakia were given their final totals…and it was Vicci who got
124 while Nakia only got 76. I don’t believe anyone was surprised at this
outcome since Vicci delivered a flawless rendition of Florence and the Machine’s
“Dog Days are Over.”

And then there was Team Blake. It was Xenia vs. Dia. I honestly wasn’t sure
who would take this one since I considered both to be equal in style and equal
in performance. Blake couldn’t stomach to put one “child over another” so he
opted to split the points straight down the middle and leave it up to the
viewers.

Blake hugged both girls and then we learned their fate. It was Xenia with 94
points and Dia Frampton with 106 total, and she’s going to advance to the
finals.

And what would “The Voice” be without a great performance? We certainly got
that from Cee Lo on Wednesday night singing his latest single “Bright Lights
Bigger City.”

You know that when Cee Lo takes the stage you get two things: A hell of a
performance and you’ll see him and his background dancers in costumes. This time
was no different. The audience and especially the three coaches ate it up. They
loved Cee Lo’s performance so much that they gave him a standing ovation.

Now just two more shows are left, with the four finalists performing on
Tuesday and then we learn who has “The Voice” to win it. And although it might
be anybody’s game to win at this point, Javier and Beverly are considered front
runners. But as we all know, anything can happen!

Glen Campbell 2004 Sherrie Busby-For the Times

June 22, 2011 | 12:39 pm

Glen Campbell has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, the 75-year-old country singer, songwriter and guitarist and his wife, Kim, have told People magazine, a condition that has prompted him to describe a new album coming in August as his final recording.

“Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer,” Kim said in the interview. “But if he flubs a lyric or gets confused onstage, I wouldn’t want people to think, ‘What’s the matter with him? Is he drunk?’ ”

Campbell is planning a series of concerts this fall in support of the album, “Ghost on the Canvas,” due Aug. 30. He is working again with producer Julian Raymond, who helped rejuvenate Campbell’s career in 2008 on “Meet Glen Campbell,” a collection of surprising song choices including Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” the Velvet Underground’s “Jesus,”  Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers’ “Walls” and the Replacements’  “Sadly Beautiful.”

Shortly after that album was released, Campbell told The Times: “I’d like to see it go up the charts, go platinum and win the Grammy,” he said. “Then I’d retire.”

Instead, he returned to the studio with Raymond, who again applies Campbell’s signature homespun vocals and guitar work to songs by the Replacements’ Paul Westerberg, Jakob Dylan, Teddy Thompson and Robert Pollard as well as to some original material that Campbell and Raymond wrote together.

Dylan, in fact, cited Campbell as the catalyst for his latest album, “Women + Country,” produced by T Bone Burnett, because when Burnett asked him to hear some of his new songs, the only thing he had to offer was “Nothing But the Whole Wide World,”  which he had written, at Raymond’s request, with Campbell in mind. “That’s how it began, so thank you, Glen Campbell,” Dylan told The Times last year.

The list of musical guests on “Ghosts on the Canvas” includes Chris Isaak, Dick Dale, Billy Corgan, Brian Setzer, Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen and the Dandy Warhols.

The singer plans to undertake what he’s calling the Glen Campbell Goodbye Tour upon the album’s release. The itinerary is still to be announced.

Campbell’s career stretches over five decades from his early years as a session guitarist in Los Angeles when he played on recordings by Phil Spector, the Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and many others, to his success as a solo artist with such hits as “Gentle on My Mind,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Galveston” and “Rhinestone Cowboy,” to his years hosting the CBS-TV show “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour” and a side career as an actor in the original film version of “True Grit,” in which he appeared alongside star John Wayne. His personal life took a downturn in 2004, when he spent 10 days in jail in Arizona for extreme drunken driving.

“I still love making music,” Campbell told People. “And I still love performing for my fans.  I’d like to thank them for sticking with me through thick and thin.”

Star of the show: Anna Graceman wowed the judges with her rendition of Alicia Keys hit 'If I Ain't Got You'

8:39 AM on 22nd June 2011

Schoolgirl singer Anna Graceman wowed the
America’s Got Talent judges with her huge voice as she performed a stunning
rendition of an Alicia Keys song.

Cutting an unassuming figure amongst the other
bizarre and outlandish acts of the night, the youngster stunned the auditorium
with her astonishing voice.

The 11-year-old, who also played the keyboard,
won the hearts of the panel – and America – as she sang ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ at
the Atlanta auditions.

‘Decibels per inch, that is the loudest noise
anyone’s ever made on the show. You’ve got amazing promise,’ Piers Morgan told
the 4’3″ songstress.

‘It’s such a surprise that’s locked inside
this beautiful little girl,’ Howie Mandel said.

Sharon Osbourne added: ‘You’re this little
girl with amazing soul in your voice, which is something that can’t be learnt.
It’s an amazing gift that you have.’

The schoolgirl, who broke down in tears of
emotion backstage, then looked shocked as the judges asked her if she was ready
to be recognised on the street.

Anna was one of the acts voted through to the
next round of America’s Got Talent, which will see the contestants travel to
auditions in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Enraptured: The judges react to Anna's stunning performance

Anna Graceman is 11 years old.  She was born and raised in beautiful Southeast Alaska.  Her mother played classical music to her before she was born and after she was born her mother spent many hours singing, reading and playing music to her.  At just a few months old her parents started displaying flashcards for her to read and gain word association. All of this together sparked the love of music and words!

She started singing a melody of complete songs at 18 months.  She loved to sing! She would sing and sing until her parents would ask her to stop so they could get a little quite time.  By 2 years old she was not afraid to sing to large groups and left audiences stunned by her ability to perform well at such a young age.  At 4 years old she stopped just playing on the piano and she began truly playing the piano.  At this point she was playing chords and learning notes on the staff.  So I Cried is the first song she wrote.  She was only 6 years old and in the first grade.  She amazed many with her deep lyrics and knowledge of musical composition.  Since then she has continued to write many other songs both lyrical and instrumental – 35 of them have been released in various forms.

As a rule in her house there is no cable T.V. and other entertainment is limited, so when Anna is not playing her piano or singing she spends many hours reading and writing stories.  She loves to write mythical stories. She also enjoys swimming or riding her bike in the summer and skiing or sledding in the winter.  She is a great down hill skier!  She spends many hours practicing her music: singing, playing piano and writing.  She currently takes classical piano lessons and is learning how to play the guitar.  She loves her Big Baby Taylor!

She has a love of learning, encouraged through the Montessori program and wants to be a singer, song writer and story writer in the future.  Many thanks to her piano teachers, school teachers, school counselors, parents and other family members for their encouraging confidence in her that has and still motivates her success.

Anna Graceman loves her homeland Alaska.  She is moved by the beautiful and stunning scenery and devoted and friendly community.  Anna has a gift that she wants to share with all in hopes that through her music she can make a difference in this world; that she will encourage others, especially children, to find and nurture their gift and use those gifts for good on this earth.

Each letter of the first name rules 9 years of life.  Ages 0 to 27 are ruled by the sum of the first three letters of the name.

Anna Graceman

1 (A is the 1st letter of the alphabet) + 14 (n is the 14th letter of the alphabet) + 14 (n is the 14th letter of the alphabet) = 29

So from ages zero to twenty-seven she has the number 29 going on.

29 = Talent.  Talented.

I often tell people the first cassette I bought with my own money was the
Beastie Boys’ License to Ill. This is, of course, a lie: It was actually
Weird
Al” Yankovic
‘s 1986 album Polka Party!, which featured classics like
“Living With a Hernia,” “Addicted to Spuds” and “Toothless People,” a send-up of
Mick Jagger’s “Ruthless People” that Wikipedia rather fastidiously describes as “a song that
focuses around elderly people who are missing their teeth.”

You can probably understand the reason I’ve lied about it for all these years
— Weird Al has never exactly been the coolest guy in the world, after all
— but since I’m coming clean now, I’d also like to admit that the second and
third cassettes I ever bought were Yankovic’s, too: his self-titled 1983
debut (I’d spend hours studying its illustrated cover, mostly because I didn’t have many friends)
and the follow-up, In 3-D, which won Al a Grammy for his food-centric
take on Michael Jackson’s “Beat It,” a song called, appropriately enough, “Eat
It.”

Shoot, eventually, I owned all the early Al cassettes: Dare to Be
Stupid,
Even Worse (I remember recording the video for “Fat” off this
very channel), the “UHF” soundtrack. I used to carry them around in one of those
little suitcases and listen to them on my Walkman during family vacations (they
definitely made the trip to Boca Raton that one year). My parents were probably
worried about me. And if they weren’t, well, they probably should have been.

Of course, as is the case with most things, I eventually grew out of my Weird
Al phase. The last album of his I ever bought was 1992’s Off the Deep End
(the one with “Smells Like Nirvana” on it), and truth be told, I haven’t
listened to a single thing he’s done since, aside from the occasional single
(“Amish Paradise,” “White & Nerdy”) that somehow managed to perforate the
pop-culture membrane. Instead, I slowly became obsessed with so-called
real music — bands like Nirvana and the Breeders, Tortoise and Pavement,
Built to Spill and Modest Mouse. I’ve continued down that path ever since, which
is why I’m supposed to be obsessed with the new Bon Iver album (which, thanks to
songs like “Beth/Rest,” is sort of like a Weird Al record, really), even though
I’m really not.

Since we parted ways, Al has released six full-length albums, the most recent
of which (Alpocalypse) hit stores on Tuesday (June 21). I haven’t heard
it, even though I’ve been told most of the songs have been floating around
online for months. Chances are, you haven’t either, though perhaps you
have heard the Lady
Gaga parody
and seen the accompanying music video. The latter is not
terribly great, mostly because the CGI makes it feel almost un-Al, but
still, I suppose that doesn’t really matter much. If Weird Al is anything, he’s
critic-proof.

But in the days since the Alpocalypse, I’ve found myself thinking back
to the days when Yankovic was my favorite artist, and I’ve realized something
rather fascinating: Basically everything I know about popular music, I learned
from Weird Al. This was mainly because, as an 8-year-old, I didn’t view songs
like “The Brady Bunch,” “The King of Suede” or “I Want a New Duck” as parodies
of popular hits, mostly because I had never heard the originals. I wasn’t smart
enough to pick up the nods to bands like Devo and Oingo Boingo on tracks like
“Dare to Be Stupid” and “You Make Me,” because, you know, I was 8. I
certainly didn’t get the joke behind “(This Song’s Just) Six Words Long,”
because vapidity wasn’t a concept I was familiar with. Shoot, the first time I
heard some of the Rolling Stones’ best cuts was when Al covered them on “The Hot
Rocks Polka.”

In short, almost all of his songs were originals to me. They’re how I
learned about stuff like verse-chorus structure and solos and synthesizers.
They’re probably why I’d go on to appreciate the slightly skewed work of Beck
and Ween (and they’re definitely why I love “Your
Party”
as much as I do). And if you want to dig even deeper, Yankovic’s
parodies are about the earliest example of the so-called “DIY” aesthetic I ever
knew; they’re practically punk rock, inasmuch as they represent Al shooting down
some of the era’s most Sacred Cows, and doing it on his own terms, repercussions
be damned.

So, yes, in a lot of ways, I owe everything to “Weird Al” Yankovic. And while
I can certainly laud him as the king of the song parody, or point out the fact
that he basically laid the groundwork for everything the Lonely
Island guys
(and 95 percent of the Internet) do these days, I think the most
fitting tribute to his greatness is to simply say that without him, I’d probably
be working in a bank somewhere. His albums made me love popular music, and I’m
pretty sure I’m not the only one who can make that claim. I may not listen to
him anymore, but I’ll remain forever loyal. Long live the king.

JILL SCOTT, 39, a Philadelphia native, has won three Grammysfor her R&B, soul and spoken-word recordings. With 5 million records sold worldwide, the singer and occasional actress will release her fourth studio album, “The Light of the Sun,” on Tuesday. Her corresponding Summer Block Party tour begins July 28 at the Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y.

ROCKER GIRL The singer and actress Jill Scott at the Setai Hotel in a top by Scoop, pants by American Apparel and shoes by Guess. She also favors pencil skirts.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8

I was in New York for a BET TV performance. The audience was so much fun: sweet and ready to party. We were cracking jokes the whole time. It really helps the case to have a rapport with the audience. I typically have a lot of nerves and jitters. I had on a Nicole Miller raspberry and black minidress. It has this graphic print that looked ’80s but with a twist. When I look back on that decade, I feel like it really suits me. It was some of the best years of my life.

And I wore these black heels that wrap around the ankle. I love shoes that wrap around the ankle. They’re that half-classy, half-slutty look. I also had on fishnet stockings, not a full-on version like you’re walking the street but a small fishnet, and I wore an extra layer of sheer stockings underneath.

After, I headed to the hotel and changed into my favorite leggings. I got them from American Apparel, if I remember correctly. They’re gunmetal with purple splotches that almost glow in the dark. I wore this flowy charcoal silk and lace V-neck handkerchief creation on top and kept the same shoes on. I felt a little rocker girl.

THURSDAY, JUNE 9

We went to see Sanaa Lathan in “Meet Vera Stark.” I had a date. My date and I were discussing beforehand what we were going to wear. I felt either rocker chic or a librarian. He said let’s do librarian. I’m crazy about these BCBG pencil skirts. They’re such a staple in my life. I have them in several colors. I ended up wearing one in a nutmeg color and I had on a sand-colored tank top with black zebra stripes. The top was fitted, you know, for support and shape. And I had on a little tan cardigan, these great BCBG gold wedges and gold jewelry. The play was amazing. Sanaa looked so stunning. It brought me back to my Broadway musical theater days.

FRIDAY, JUNE 10

After two weeks of travel, it was nice to have a few days that were all mine. I actually spent most of the day enjoying the hotel spa. It was fantastic. The tubs were deep and the rooms were sexy. Afterward, I lounged around in my Badgley Mischka caftan. I have a few caftans just for lounging purposes. When I want to feel free, it’s the closest thing to feeling naked without being naked. It’s made of this light ivory, gray and pale blue silk. I’m a fabric girl. It has to feel nice on the skin, so anything that is silk, a soft cotton or silk-cashmere.

SATURDAY, JUNE 11

I met some friends for lunch and I also got a little shopping in. I went to Lord & Taylor, where they were having a sale. I had on a Rachel Pally print maxidress — I wanted to be in something that was easy to get in and out of in case I tried something on — a pair of L.A.M.B. brown platforms, these really large door-knocker earrings and my signature vintage Cazals. I love, love Cazals. I have two pairs. One pair I stole off my friend’s face. When I was younger I couldn’t afford them, and now when I put them on I feel fancy, like a rich lady.

SUNDAY, JUNE 12

Sunday was here before I knew it. Time to hit the road again and get my travel ensemble together. I like to be comfortable, but there also has to be an element of glamour in my look. So I wore an All Saints oversized cream crochet sweater — I’ve been feeling the neutrals lately — a pair of blue DKNY skinny jeans and Jimmy Choo high-top bejeweled sneakers. They’re silver and gold and surprisingly not over the top. I saw them in the Jimmy Choo store on Rodeo Drive and I just loved them. I didn’t even know they made sneakers. They’re like my Michael Jackson shoes.

MONDAY, JUNE 13

Back to work: I had radio promos and then a meet-and-greet. I was feeling a little retro glam so I rocked this vintage wrap dress with a Pucci-esque print and a pair of Miu Miu denim wedges. I went for big accessories. LL Cool J’s wife does jewelry and she gave me this great pair of gold earrings in this oblong shape.

TUESDAY, JUNE 14

I was down in Baltimore to stop in on this radio station. I wore another BCBG pencil skirt, this one in beige, and this cream silk blouse with short sleeves. I also had on gold wedges and a tan fedora. I’ve really been enjoying fedoras lately, mostly because I don’t want to do my hair all the time.

Glee-Special-Naya-Riv

Glee standout Naya Rivera, who plays the feisty and sexually confused Santana on Fox’s musical hit, signed a record deal in early June, and it seems that the busy-busy star is wasting no time before taking a crack at working on it.

As soon as she gets done with the Glee tour, her focus will be solely on her solo album for the month of July. “I won’t have anything I’m working on until after the tour is over,” Rivera told EW when we caught up with her, “so July 4th, when I get back home in L.A., is when I’ll hunker down and spend that whole month hammering out the details and the creative process of that. I’m really excited about that.”

As for what we can expect for the actual sound of the album, well, it seems that Rivera is still working that out. “I know what I sound good on, and I know what I like to write,” she says. “I’ve been writing for years, so I have a catalog of songs that I’ve written over the years, and it’s just a matter of getting with the right producers and other writers to develop the sound that is me.”

Could that sound possibly include someone from the New Directions, Vocal Adrenaline, or the Warblers? Rivera says she’d love to enlist some of her Glee cast mates to be on her album, but “I guess we’ll just have to find out and see.”

Clarence Clemons (L) grabs Bruce Springsteen during an appearance in New York in September 2007
18 June 2011 Last updated at 23:24 ET

Clarence Clemons, the saxophone player in Bruce
Springsteen’s E Street Band, has died, aged 69, a spokeswoman for the band has
said.

Clemons was taken to hospital about a week ago after suffering a stroke at
his home in Singer Island, in the US state of Florida.

Known as the Big Man for his 6ft 5in frame, Clemons was credited with shaping
the early sound of The Boss.

His solos powered Springsteen hits such as Born to Run and
Jungleland.

‘Immeasurable’ lossSpringsteen spokeswoman Marilyn Laverty confirmed the death on Saturday.

On
his website
, Springsteen said the loss of Clemons was “immeasurable” and
that he and his bandmates were honoured to have stood beside him for nearly 40
years.

The statement said: “Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a
love of people that made them love him.”

It added: “He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had
every night he stepped on stage.”

A former youth councillor, Clemons once described performing as his natural
environment.

The stage, he said, “always feels like home – it’s where I belong”.

Clemons began playing saxophone at the age of nine after receiving one
unexpectedly from his father for Christmas.

“I wanted an electric train for Christmas, but he got me a saxophone. I
flipped out,” he told the Associated Press news agency in a 1989 interview.

After his dreams of being a football player were dashed by a car accident, he
turned to music.

An original member of the E Street Band, Clemons also performed with the
Grateful Dead, the Jerry Garcia Band, and Ringo Starr and his All Starr
Band.

Clemons also recorded with Aretha Franklin, Roy Orbison and Jackson Browne.

Since the release of his mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra this past February,
Frank Ocean has gone from a
relatively unknown songwriter to the Internet’s best-kept secret, and now he may
be poised to be music’s next big thing. But with Ocean choosing to do very
little press, his appearance in Tyler, the Creator’s “She” video may be one of
the only times many people have seen the Odd
Future
crooner besides a handful of press photos.

That all changed Thursday: The video for Ocean’s “Novacane,” one of
Nostalgia‘s many standout cuts, just hit the Web. The Nabil
Elderkin-directed clip features Ocean in what looks like a dimly lit hotel
suite. With each exhale of a joint, Ocean is surrounded by ghostly incarnations
of beautiful women, tigers and pandas. At one point, Ocean smears what appears
to be novocaine — or Procaine, for those out there with dentist parents — on his
solemn-looking face.

The song is the first single from the Def Jam re-release of Ocean’s album. A
track list for the re-release of the album has yet to appear, but the free
version featured a variety of samples, from Coldplay’s “Strawberry Swing” to the
Eagles’ “Hotel California,” which may be difficult to clear. When MTV News
caught up with Ocean at the Coachella festival in April, even he joked that he
was skeptical whether they’d be cleared.

“The Eagles sample has no chance in hell of being cleared,” Ocean said.
“Coldplay sample, possibly. I hear ‘possibly’ from people who say they know.
MGMT, those guys seem chill. I heard they heard the record and they liked it a
lot, so hopefully that can go some way.

“Hopefully the sh– gets worked out. We might pull a Hail Mary and clear the
Eagles’ record. They might want all of the publishing for the whole album,
though, which can’t happen,” Ocean added.

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) – Rebecca Black is getting her 16th minute of fame now that the teen starlet’s infamous “Friday” video has been pulled off YouTube by her lawyers.

The singer enjoyed tremendous viral success in March with a song that was so silly and simple (“Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend”), it became irresistible fodder for every amateur comedian on Twitter and Facebook. The song reached No. 58 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, was covered by Justin Bieber, and then jumped the shark when it was performed on “Glee.”

Black’s “Friday” then started its descent toward a future edition of “Trivial Pursuit,” but now has gotten a momentary reprieve thanks to a take-down notice.

Unlike 99.9% of takedown notices submitted to YouTube, this isn’t a garden-variety response to a user uploading unauthorized copyrighted material. Rather, the dispute has been going on for months and is more about the contracts that young musicians sign before they hit it big.

In Black’s case, she seems to have created a vanity recording by making a deal with Ark Music Records to use its studio to record her song. After the song exploded, Ark Music wanted to capitalize. And that’s when it starts to get interesting.

In March, Black’s lawyers sent a letter to Ark Music, accusing the company of copyright infringement and unlawful exploitation of her publicity rights. Specifically, Black says she never got the master recordings allegedly due to her by contract and that Ark hadn’t attained the necessary rights to advertise her as an exclusive Ark recording artist and commercially exploit the song in derivatives like ringtones.

Most bona fide record labels would have taken care of such matters rather easily. But if Ark was really more like a recording studio for hire rather than a recording label, it likely gave little thought to how it would support Black’s career through publicity and marketing expenditures. Instead, Ark took a few hundred dollars from Black’s mother to let the 13-year-old record a song, probably without the slightest expectation of any further reward.

Now that the song has hit it big, the equation has obviously changed, and the parties are fussing over who owns which rights, which will help determine the slicing of the royalty pie. If the parties don’t come to an agreement, only a court’s inspection of the contract will settle the matter.

Ever since The Voice started, I’ve had my eye on Javier Colon to win the entire competition, but tonight Dia Frampton quickly became a frontrunner with her touching and incredibly unique rendition of Kanye West‘s “Heartless”. When chatting with Dia backstage she revealed she’d never heard of Kris Allen‘s American Idol version of the popular song!

When we last saw Dia on stage she was battling against Serabee in an extremely uncomfortable and bizarre duet of “You Can’t Hurry Love”. I remember thinking she had a charming voice, but not really placing her high on my list. Boy did that change tonight. Dia sounded absolutely beautiful, with a haunting and strong tone in her pure voice. I loved it!

The 23-year-old singer and writer of children’s books was nervous to get out on stage, and she admitted to me afterward that she was still rattled immediately following her performance. “I was more comfortable with the piano, but I was definitely very nervous. Hopefully it will get a little bit better.”

When Dia (with her awesomely-glittered eyes) first started singing “Heartless” I instantly thought of Kris Allen in 2009. But when I asked her if she’d heard of Kris’s rendition she said “I haven’t!”

She revealed, “I heard ‘The Fray’ do a little bit of it, which was cool. I wanted to slow it down a little more, make the piano more vibrant, and then kind of put my own vocal thing on it. [At first] I actually hadn’t heard ‘The Fray’s’ [cover] … I said I wanted to do Kanye and Blake was the one that told me [to listen to them] and it was cool.”

Contestant Lily Elise told me she lives right next to Dia and says her friend is one hard-worker. “That girl practices all day long. I hear her through the wall!” All of that hard work paid off. Every single one of the judges gave Dia high praise. Adam Levine said it was the most “refreshing, unique thing I’ve heard on the show” and Cee Lo Green called it the “greatest rendition of a song I’ve ever heard.”

Dia joined the rest of Blake Shelton‘s team to perform Maroon 5′s “This Love”, which illicited a hilarious reaction from a surprised and ever-sexy Adam. “We are all friends, and Blake’s like a buddy so I felt really comfortable performing with them,” admitted Dia.

It was the first live show for the singing competition and I enjoyed many moments from tonight’s episode, including the banter between the coaches, the downright dirty jokes that were being told, and Patrick Thomas‘s sweet country crooning dedicated to his sister. (He was my second fave of the night).

The judges/coaches started the evening off right with their Queen performance, and Adam started a worldwide Twitter trending frenzy with his guitar solo (right … had nothing to do with his looks). In fact, most of the contestants trended internationally, and judges Adam and Christina had everyone gabbing about their quips which included Christina accusing Adam of soiling himself. Oh, and she asked Patrick to take his pants off again, leading Adam to say “Christina wants to do it with you.”

What was your favorite moment of the night? Who do you think will be going home next week? I’m thinking we might be seeing the end of Xenia and Raquel Castro, two girls I like but might not cut it against the fierce competition. Were you as impressed as I was by the lovely Dia?

Pink's Daughter Willow Sage's First Photo | Carey Hart, Pink

2:58 p.m. EDT, June 3, 2011

It’s a girl for Pink and Carey Hart.

The singer tweeted the news on
Thursday (June 2) that she and her husband of five years — despite a short
separation — welcomed a new addition to their family.

“We are
ecstatic to welcome our beautiful healthy happy baby girl, Willow Sage Hart,”
Pink wrote. “She’s gorgeous, just like her daddy.”

The notoriously
outspoken rocker has yet to share any photos of the new bundle of joy, but we
have no doubts that they’ll be popping up soon. This is the first child for both
parents.

Pink appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres” show back in November to
confirm
her pregnancy
, telling the talk show host: “My mom has always wished me a
daughter just like me. I’m terrified… One of us will go to jail.” The unborn
child also made out with a mini motocross bike as an early birthday gift that
day.

Congrats to the happy family! We can’t wait to see what the little
one looks like.

Sammy Hagar: I was abducted by aliens

Sammy Hagar makes some out-of-this-world revelations with his new autobiography “Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock.”

Besides the usual tales of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, the singer also claims to have been contacted by aliens.

Hagar writes in the book that he once saw two creatures inside a spaceship in the foothills of Fontana, Calif., and now believes they abducted him and tapped into his brain.

“[Aliens] were plugged into me. It was a download situation,” he tells MTV Hive. “This was long before computers or any kind of wireless. There weren’t even wireless telephones. Looking back now, it was like, ‘F—, they downloaded something into me!’ Or they uploaded something from my brain, like an experiment.”

Hagar also had an earlier alien encounter at 4-years-old. “One time I saw what I considered to be, well, at the time I thought it was a car with no wheels,” he says. “We lived out in the country and I saw this thing floating across a field, creating this big dust storm. I threw rocks at it… And I don’t know what happened after that.”

While the former Van Halen frontman is open about his E.T. experiences in his interview, he downplays them in his book because, he says, “I don’t want to sound like I’m crazy.”

Still, this isn’t the first time Hagar has explored the concept of close encounters.

“I have done a few songs that have sci-fi themes,” he tells MTV Hive. “There’s ‘Space Station #5’ on the first Montrose album, and then on the second album there’s ‘Spaceage Sacrifice.'” And on his first solo album, “there’s ‘Silver Lights’ and ‘Hot Rocks,’ which are about UFOs coming and taking people away,” Hagar explains.

“People say there’s no other life in the universe,” says Hagar. “But you know how big the universe is? It’s freakin’ huge! If we’re really the only ones out there, that’s scarier to me than thinking there are aliens.”

Rebecca Black: 5 Things to Know

Friday March 25, 2011 03:05 PM EDT

Rebecca Black’s viral video named for the end of the workweek has amassed a stunning 47 million views – and counting. She’s been slammed and cyber-bullied worldwide, and gained more positive attention from the likes of Simon Cowell and Jay Leno.

But what do you really know about the 13-year-old with the catchiest song on the planet?

1. She’s into musical theater
Sure, she’s got that pop song and all, but Black (who’s taken four years of voice lessons and hopes to land a record deal) is also taking center stage at her middle school. “I got the lead this year for Oklahoma!” the eighth-grader tells PEOPLE. “I’ve always been in our school’s shows, ever since first grade.”

2. Her bedroom is Bieber-ed out
“I am so dorky when it comes to Justin Bieber,” she admits. “I have a little mini shrine in my room.” Should the Biebs (who has Tweeted about “Friday”) invite her to collaborate, “I would scream at the top of my lungs and possibly not be able to sing again,” she says with a laugh.

3. She’s s-m-a-r-t
In addition to singing, “She’s also an honors student,” says Black’s mother, Georgina Kelly, who admits that her daughter’s vocabulary has left her searching for a dictionary. “She’s won spelling bees … she’s a smart cookie.”

4. She digs Selena Gomez
“I totally admire her,” says Black. “I think it’s awesome that she hasn’t taken that downward spiral that other child stars have taken. And I really love Katy Perry, too.”

5. Those are her real friends in the video
When Ark Music Factory set up the video shoot for “Friday,” they gave Black the option of including her friends, and she agreed. So now, a whole pack of kids from southern California are famous along with her. Not that any of them expected to be. “Last Christmas there was a group of people whose [YouTube] video hit 100,000 views, and I thought, ‘Wow, how incredible is that?’ ” recalls Kelly. “It made the news!” Of course, her own daughter has now surpassed that mark – 470 times over. “This,” adds Black, “is the last thing I thought would happen.”

Blues pianist Pinetop Perkins has died at the age of 97 at his home in Austin, Texas.

The pianist became the oldest ever Grammy Award winner last month when he won the Best Traditional Blues Album award for his ‘Joined At The Hip’ record. He had received a lifetime achievement award at the 2005 ceremony.

His agent Hugh Southard said Perkins died of cardiac arrest after waking up with chest pains yesterday (March 21), reports BBC News.

Perkins performed with a huge range of artists during his career, including BB King and Muddy Waters. He continued to tour right up until his passing, with Southard saying he had over 20 further performances booked this year before his death.

BB King paid tribute to Perkins, saying: “He was one of the last great Mississippi bluesmen, and he sure could play the piano. He will be missed not only by me, but by lovers of music all over the world.”

American soul icon Loleatta Holloway, best known for her 1980 hit “Love Sensation,” has died at the age of 64, her manager confirmed.

Chicago-born Holloway had been battling a short period of ill health and died from heart failure late Monday, her manager Ron Richardson told music website spinningsoul.com.

Holloway, who was also known for disco song “Hit and Run,” successfully sued UK dance act Blackbox for a share of royalties from the group’s 1989 number one single “Ride On Time,” which sampled “Love Sensation” without credit.

Her work has also been sampled by Whitney Houston, for the star’s 2009 hit “Million-Dollar Bill,” and by US singer-turned actor Mark Wahlberg for his 1991 number one “Good Vibrations,” with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

Twitter tributes for the singer poured in Tuesday from fans and celebrities, including DJs Giles Petersen and Boy George.

Jet Harris
18 March 2011 Last updated at 13:55 ET

Jet Harris, the original bass player with The Shadows, has died of cancer aged 71.

The guitarist, who played on number one hits including Apache, died at his partner’s home in Winchester, his agent Peter Stockton said.

Sir Cliff Richard paid tribute to his former bandmate, saying: “Jet was exactly what The Shadows and I needed – a backbone holding our sound together.”

Earlier this month, Harris cancelled all his appearances due to ill health.

“Jet, the bass player, will always be an integral part of British rock ‘n’ roll history,” Sir Cliff added. “Losing him is sad – but the great memories will stay with me. Rock on, Jet.”

Mr Stockton said: “He was a man who was so courageous and determined and kept saying ‘I will beat this’.

“The last time he went on stage he said he didn’t want to let people down and I could see he was struggling a bit, but he got a standing ovation. Regrettably it was the last concert he did on 5 February.”

Born Terence Harris in London, the guitarist got his biggest break in 1958 when he was on tour with the Most Brothers.

On the same bill as Cliff Richard and the Drifters, he later joined the group permanently and made his recording debut on Sir Cliff’s third single Livin’ Lovin’ Doll.

Jet Harris
Harris was awarded an MBE for services to Music in 2010

‘Incredibly loyal’

In 1959, Harris was credited with coming up with the group’s new name, The Shadows, and they went on to have a string of hits including Man of Mystery, The Savage and Wonderful Land.

In 1962, he left the band and had two top 30 solo hits with Besame Mucho and The Man With The Golden Arm.

He also formed a duo with ex-Shadows drummer Tony Meehan, producing the number one hit Diamonds in 1963 and scoring top five songs with Scarlett O’Hara and Applejack.

After a quiet period, Harris began touring again in the late 1970s and continued to tour intermittently around Europe for the subsequent 20 years.

In 1998 he was awarded a Fender Lifetime Achievement Award for his role in popularising the bass guitar in Britain.

He released a new album, The Journey, in 2007, and continued to tour the UK with Shadows tribute band The Rapiers.

He was made an MBE for services to Music in the 2010 New Year’s Honours list. He is survived by his partner, Janet Hemingway.

A family friend speaking on her behalf said: “Jet was a one-off. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was incredibly courageous and incredibly loyal to his friends and family.”

Hip-hop star Nate Dogg died Tuesday, according to reports.

Despite being around seemingly forever, Nate (real name Nathaniel Dwayne Hale) was just 41 and had battled serious health issues for several years.

The Press Telegram in Nate’s hometown of Long Beach, Calif., broke the story. Snoop’s Twitter has a really nice tribute to his good friend up right now.

Nate broke out singing backup on Dr. Dre’s classic album The Chronic followed by his performance alongside Warren G on the smash record “Regulate.”

You can listen to that collaboration right here. R.I.P. Nate Dogg …

Turkish singer Ibrahim Tatlises, famous also in Greece and across the Middle East, has been shot and seriously wounded in an attack in Istanbul.

He was shot in the head by unidentified men after midnight on Saturday and left in a critical condition, reports said.

Mr Tatlises, 58, had just left the offices of private Turkish channel Beyaz TV with his spokeswoman, who was also hit.

They were both taken to hospital and underwent surgery.

The singer, known as Emperor and one of Turkey’s biggest stars, had just left a TV studio shortly after midnight, and was about to leave by car when he was attacked.

According to media reports, the gunmen, carrying Kalashnikov rifles, escaped in a car.

No group has yet claimed involvement in the attack, although newspapers said Mr Tatlises had been shot in the leg in 1990 and had escaped unharmed in another incident in 1998.

Doctors treating him at Maslak Acibadem hospital said a bullet had entered the rear of his skull and had passed out through the front, Anatolia news agency reported.

“His life is still in danger but the situation has improved since he arrived at hospital,” chief surgeon Caglar Cuhadaroglu told Anatolia after a four-hour operation.

His spokeswoman was said to be in a stable condition after an operation on her neck.

Ibrahim Tatlises, who is of Kurdish origin and from the south-eastern city of Sanliurfa, has recorded more than 30 albums and has acted in numerous films. He also hosts a TV show.

As well as being a major singing star, Mr Tatlises is a well known businessman with interests in Kurdish areas of northern Iraq.

Mike Starr (former Alice in Chains) appeared on the 3rd season of ‘Celebrity Rehab’ back in 2009 – and was arrested last month for felony possession of a controlled substance. Salt Lake City cops say he had 6 Xanax pills and 6 Opana (painkiller) pills when he was busted.
According to Police, the body of the 44-year-old Starr was discovered on Tuesday in a house in Salt Lake City.
Starr was 44 years old.

A spokesman for the Salt Lake City police separtment said that officers responded to call about a possible body at a residence in the city centre earlier on Tuesday afternoon.
‘There is nothing to indicate that this was foul play by another individual,’ police said.

Mike Starr, the former Alice in Chains bassist whose battle with drugs was chronicled on the reality TV show ‘Celebrity Rehab.’

Starr’s former Alice in Chains band mates, Jerry Cantrell and Sean Kinney, released a statement, offering their support for his family.
The band’s original singer, Layne Staley, died from a drug overdose in 2002.

‘Jerry and Sean are mourning the loss of their friend and ask that the media respect their privacy – and the privacy of Mike’s family – during this difficult time. Their thoughts & prayers are with Mike’s family,’ it read.

Mike Starr Biography

Michael Christopher ‘Mike’ Starr (April 4, 1966 March 8, 2011) was an American musician, best known as the original bassist in Alice in Chains, with whom he played from the band’s formation in 1987 until 1993.

In the mid 1980s Jerry Cantrell began a band called Diamond Lie which included drummer Sean Kinney and Starr on bass. Cantrell’s roommate, singer Layne Staley, also agreed to join while having Cantrell join his funk project which ended shortly thereafter. Diamond Lie gained attention in the Seattle area and eventually took the name of Alice in Chains. The band was later signed to a record deal with Columbia Records and enjoyed extensive success via record sales and radio play in the grunge rock movement of the early 1990s. Starr was with the group for the Facelift and Dirt albums and the Sap EP. He was most often seen playing several variations of a Spector NS-2 bass guitar through an Ampeg SVT all-valve head and Ampeg 8×10′ speaker cabinets.

Starr departed the group while it was touring behind the album Dirt. According to former singer Layne Staley, in a Rolling Stone article from February 1994, Starr’s departure from Alice in Chains stemmed from ‘just a difference in priorities. We wanted to continue intense touring and press, Mike was ready to go home.’ Starr, however, mentioned on an episode of Celebrity Rehab that he was kicked out of the band due to his budding drug addiction.

Starr later played bass for the band Sun Red Sun, which featured Ray Gillen and Bobby Rondinelli, both former members of Black Sabbath.
The project was cut short by Gillen’s death in 1993.

Starr was later featured in the third season of the VH1 reality television series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2010, which documented his treatment for heroin addiction at the Pasadena Recovery Center, which began in August 2009. His subsequent stint staying in a sober living environment was then documented on the spinoff Sober House. He and fellow recovering addicts Mackenzie Phillips and Tom Sizemore appeared in the eighth episode of Celebrity Rehab’s fourth season to provide testimonials about their recovery to that season’s patients. During this appearance, Starr marked six months and seven days of sobriety.

Both Jerry Cantrell and Sean Kinney criticized the show Celebrity Rehab, calling it ‘disgusting’. However, they stopped short of criticizing their former bandmate and expressed hope that Starr would turn his life around. Kinney also thanked Starr along with all over members of AIC both past and present within the liner notes of Alice in Chains’ most recent album Black Gives Way to Blue.
‘I totally back Mike and I back his efforts to get clean and remain somebody that I and the band really care about – he’s a friend of ours, you know, and we wish him the best.’ – Jerry Cantrell.
‘So I don’t support that show at all and I think it’s pretty disgusting. But Mike getting his life together or anybody doing that, I’ll support that.’ – Sean Kinney

On February 18, 2011, Starr was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance in Salt Lake City, Utah.

On March 8, 2011, Mike was found dead in Salt Lake City. No details have emerged yet as to the cause of death.

Michael Christopher Starr was born on April 4th, 1966 according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Starr_(musician)

Each letter of the first name rules 9 years of life.  Ages 27 to 54 are ruled by the sum of the day of birth and the 4th, 5th, and 6th letters of the first name.

Michael Christopher Starr       April 4th, 1966

4 (born on the 4th of the month) + 8 (h is the 8th letter of the alphabet) + 1 (a is the 1st letter of the alphabet) + 5 (e is the 5th letter of the alphabet) = 18

So from ages twenty-seven to fifty-four he had the number 18 going on.

18 = Drugs.

And true to the number 18, he unfortunately struggled with drugs.

Father of The 5 Browns Quintet Pleads Guilty to Child Sex Abuse| The 5 Browns, Crime & CourtsFather of The 5 Browns Quintet Pleads Guilty to Child Sex Abuse

Thursday February 17, 2011 04:30 PM EST

Appearing solemn and showing injuries from a recent car crash, the father of the musical group The 5 Browns arrived to court Thursday and entered surprise guilty pleas to sexually abusing three of his daughters when they were children.

Keith Scott Brown, 55, was charged last week with abusing Desirae, 32, Deondra, 30, and Melody, 26, all members of the popular Julliard-trained quintet of siblings. The women had chosen to be identified in court papers.

The elder Brown arrived in Provo, Utah, courtroom with scratches to his face from Monday’s crash of his Porsche that sent him and his wife, Lisa Brown, 54, to the hospital. The accident occurred four days after charges were filed.

In an agreement with prosecutors, Brown pleaded guilty to sodomy on a child under 14, and two charges of sex abuse of a child, all felonies.

At his March 31 sentencing he faces a term of 10 years to life in prison.

Court documents filed on Feb. 10 alleged the abuse started in November of 1990 through October 1992, November 1990 through November 1992, and March 1997 through March 1998 in Utah County.

In a statement posted on the group’s Web site before the guilty pleas, the siblings thanked friends and other supporters “for their concern and prayers on our behalf during this trying time.”

“One of the greatest sources of joy and satisfaction in life is the opportunity to share our music together and with fellow music lovers throughout the world,” they say.

Soul-blues singer Marvin Sease, whose lubricious songs made him a star on the Southern chitlin circuit in the ’80s and ’90s, died Feb. 8 in Vicksburg, MS. He was 64. Unconfirmed reports said he succumbed to pneumonia.

South Carolina-born Sease got his start in gospel, and led a sacred unit that also included his three brothers. He abandoned gospel for R&B, and recorded an eponymous album that he issued on his own Early label. The set, which included the popular track “Ghetto Man,” was reissued on London/Mercury, which signed Sease in 1987.

The re-released “Marvin Sease” was augmented by a new 10-minute track, “Candy Licker.” Without the benefit of airplay, this almost single-entendre celebration of sex became a smash hit, and Sease took its title as his professional nickname.

Sease never took an album or a single into the upper reaches of the charts, and his success never rivaled that of his contemporary Johnnie Taylor, but his funky, unblushing songs cemented his status as an enduring attraction on the black club circuit.

He cut close to 20 down-and-dirty albums for major labels London, Mercury, Jive and Silvertone, and ended his career on the Jackson, MS-based R&B indie Malaco. His last album, “Who’s Got the Power,” was released in 2008.

Gladys Horton, front right, with the Marvelettes
28 January 2011 Last updated at 03:22 ET

Gladys Horton, co-founder of Motown girl group The Marvelettes, has died at the age of 66.

The band were signed to Berry Gordy’s Tamla label and had a US number one single with Please Mr Postman in 1961, released when Horton was just 15.

Her son, Vaughn Thornton, said she died on Wednesday in a nursing home in Sherman Oaks, California, where she had been recovering from a stroke.

Horton was replaced as lead singer in 1965 and left the group in 1967.

She formed the band with school friend Georgia Dobbins in Inkster, a suburb of Detroit.

They originally named themselves the Casinyets – short for “Can’t sing yet”.

After entering a high school talent contest, the group – now called the Marvels – won an audition with Tamla founder Berry Gordy and singer Smokey Robinson.

They changed their name to the Marvelettes and released Please Mr Postman, which gave them their only US number one hit.

An album quickly followed but it failed to enter the charts.

Their hit song was later covered by the Beatles and went to the top of the US chart again in 1974 with the Carpenters.

Rafferty was reputed to have earned £80,000 a year from the royalties on Baker Street. Clip courtesy United Artists/EMI

Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Rafferty has died at the age of 63 after suffering a long illness.

His career high came in the 1970s and included the anthemic Baker Street and Stuck in the Middle with You, recorded with his band Stealers Wheel.

Rafferty had battled a drink problem and spent time in hospital in Bournemouth with liver failure.

He was born in Paisley and began his musical career as a busker on the London Underground.

Solo career

Rafferty died peacefully at home, with his daughter Martha at his bedside.

It is understood his funeral will be held in Paisley later this month.

Rafferty had recorded and toured with Billy Connolly as part of the Humblebums, before forming Stealers Wheel with his friend Joe Egan in 1972.

Stuck in the Middle with You was a hit in the early 70s and also appeared on the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino’s debut film Reservoir Dogs in 1992.

Baker Street charted in the UK and US in 1978 after Rafferty began his solo career and still achieves airplay on radio stations around the world.

Greatly missed

Music journalist and BBC Radio 2 presenter Paul Gambaccini said it was a cruel irony that Baker Street, about Rafferty’s unhappiness with being a star, brought him more of the fame he hated.

Gambaccini said: “He just wasn’t of the constitution to deal with the music business, or to respect it.

“And thus he found fame and artistic success incompatible, and he became a wanderer, a lonely man, allegedly a drinker. And now we have this unhappy end.”

Musician and BBC 6 Music presenter Tom Robinson said Rafferty would be greatly missed.

“I’m deeply saddened to hear that Gerry has lost the battle with his failing health,” he said.

“His early work with Stealers Wheel was an inspiration to a whole generation of songwriters in the 70s, including me.

“Many of us had hoped his recent album Life Goes On in 2009 would lead to a full-time return to writing and performing for a lyrical and highly gifted artist.”

BBC News website readers from around the world have sent in their tributes:

Don’t Speak of My Heart was my favourite. His voice was like velvet. Calmed me down just listening to him. I cannot believe he has gone. Susan Miller, Kilmaurs, Ayrshire, Scotland

Have followed his releases from Stealers Wheel to present. He wrote beautiful songs and he and Joe Egan, who sadly didn’t get the same recognition, have left me some great musical memories. George Morris, Donaghadee, County Down, Northern Ireland

As a muso myself, I loved the arrangement of the haunting Baker Street and often performed Stuck In The Middle With You with a band I was a part of in the 80s and 90s in England. Both songs are played frequently on New Zealand radio stations. Gerry will be sorely missed. Tony Last, Hastings, New Zealand

My first LP was Can I Have my Money Back, which I still have. My favourite song is The Ark from City to City with Jerry Donahue on guitar. He wrote about life itself, things one can relate to. He brought musical quality into life at times when there was not much around. Keith Dhan-Weller, Nuertingen, Germany

Baker Street is probably my favourite song. I’m a songwriter and I teach creative writing. Baker Street is about Gerry’s own experience with the music industry but he wrote the lyric in the third person. This makes the story more interesting and sad. The song works on so many different levels. Musically and lyrically. Richard Abbott, Limavady, Northern Ireland

I was a young radio producer with BBC Scotland in the late 1960s when a couple of lads came in to Queen Margaret Drive to take part in some programmes. They were the Humblebums, and they made brilliant music. Rehearsals attracted all sorts of excuses from staff to absent themselves from their desks to go and listen in the studio cubicle. Little did we know… Alan Muirhead, Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, England

My eldest daughter was in school with his daughter Martha when Gerry lived in Kilmacolm. My husband and I were great fans of his music and songs and are sorry to hear of his death. Rita Walker, Greenock, Scotland

Gerry Rafferty had depths beyond his two best-selling singles. A talented and open-minded musician who supported other talents – he will be missed. Alastair, Northampton, England

Japan bassist Mick Karn has lost his battle with cancer at his home in London. He was 52.

Karn, real name Andonis Michaelides, announced he had been diagnosed with the disease at the beginning of June, telling fans on his website that the security and well-being of his wife and young son are now his top priority.

A statement posted on his website on Tuesday confirmed Karn “was surrounded by his family and friends” at the time of his death.

Born in Cyprus, Karn was a big part of the U.K.’s new wave movement in the early 1980s. As well as becoming a member of Japan, he also worked with Gary Numan and Kate Bush and founded Dalis Car in the mid-1980s with Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy.

He moved back to London from his native Cyprus last year following the diagnosis he was terminally ill and fans launched several appeals via his website Mickkarn.net to help cover medical costs and offer financial support to his family.

Live Aid hero and Ultravox frontman Midge Ure was in the throes of hosting a charity concert in support of Karn when the bassist died.

Ure told the BBC last year, “When it comes to a situation like Mick’s – who is in dire straits – he needs help, financial help and emotional help. I have had a lot of contact from people I haven’t spoken to in a long time; we are looking at availabilities for various venues. It’s a long, slow process, so we need to nail the venue and date.

“You are going to have most of Japan there doing stuff, certainly Steve (Jansen) and Richard (Barbieri) will be there, and people that Mick has worked with over the years. He has huge respect. He is one of the good guys; that’s what’s shocking to everybody. I think the interest in this will be huge.

“I think Mick’s influenced everybody. Until I heard Japan, I had never heard a bass guitar played like that; it was almost like playing a lead instrument, incredibly percussive and melodic, something that inspired me.”

In a statement released on Tuesday, Duran Duran bassist John Taylor called Karn, “one of the great visual and sound stylists of the late 70s/early 80s”.

Salvatore “Toto” Cutugno (born July 7, 1943) is an Italian pop singer-songwriter and musician.

Toto Cutugno was born in Fosdinovo, Tuscany, to a Sicilian father and a Tuscan mother. Shortly after his birth the family moved to La Spezia (Liguria).

He began his musical career as a drummer, but later formed a band that performed his own songs. He also had cowritten for popular French-American singer Joe Dassin, contributing some of his most famous songs, including “L’été indien” (“Africa”), “Et si tu n’existais pas” and “Le Jardin du Luxembourg” (written with Vito Pallavicini). He also co-wrote Dalida‘s “Laissez moi danser” (Voglio l’anima”), which became a Platinum record shortly after its release.

In 1976 Cutugno participated for the first time in the Sanremo Music Festival coming up with 3rd place with his band Albatros. He then won in 1980 with the song “Solo noi”, and again in 1983, with his smash hit, “L’Italiano”, and subsequently finished second in six editions: in 1984 with the song “Serenata” (“Serenade”), in 1987 with “Figli” (“Sons” or “Children”), in 1988 with “Emozioni” (“Emotions”), in 1989 with the song “Le mamme” (“The Mamas”), in 1990 with Ray Charles with the song “Gli amori” (“Loves”, but entitled “Good Love Gone Bad” in Charles’ version) and in 2005 with Annalisa Minetti with the song “Come noi nessuno al mondo” (“No One Else in the World Like Us”). Toto Cutugno participated in the festival a total of 13 times.

He won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1990 with his own composition “Insieme: 1992” (“Together: 1992”), a ballad which celebrated European political integration. Along with Gigliola Cinquetti, Italy’s only other Eurovision winner from 1964, he presented the 1991 contest, which was staged in Rome as a result of his victory.

Cutugno may be best-known for his worldwide hit song, “L’Italiano (Lasciatemi Cantare)”, which was on his hit CD, “I Grandi Successi”.

Vitthal Umap
November 27, 2010
Folk singer Shahir Vitthal Umap, 80, passed away while performing at a function in Nagpur on Friday evening. Umap, a follower of Dr Ambedkar, collapsed while he was onstage at Nagpur’s famous Dikshabhoomi. He was rushed to a private nursing home where he was declared dead. Born in a Mumbai chawl in 1931, Umap struggled for recognition of the neglected folk genres of Maharashtra. He had toured extensively all over the state to keep alive the folk traditions.

Umap had won the first prize at the International Folk Music and Art Festival at Cork, Ireland. His roles in roles in Shyam Benegal’s TV series Bharat Ek Khoj and Jabbar Patel’s film Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar won him further laurels. He was nominated for the best actor’s award for his performance in a Marathi film Tingya two years ago.

He composed music for several films, serials and dramas. He was also a part of popular stage shows Khandobacha Lagin, Gadhwacha Lagna, Jambhool Akhyan and Me Marathi.

After years of wait, Umap was recently given a house under the artistes’ quota.

At a cultural programme three months ago, a frustrated Umap declared that he was fed up with making innumerable requests to the government. “I don’t think I will get a house in my lifetime,” he had said.

Then chief minister Ashok Chavan had earlier sanctioned plush houses to many artistes — several of them lower in stature than Umap.

Then deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who was present at the show, vowed that he would get the singer a flat and fulfilled his promise within a fortnight.

“I’m deeply satisfied that I could help him with an affordable flat in Mumbai,” Bhujbal said while paying tributes to Umap. “At the same time, I’m deeply grieved to know that we have lost a great performer.”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan condoled the death of noted folk artist Vithal Umap, who passed away in Nagpur today.”We’ve lost a legendary theatre artist, great poet and a grassroot artist. He was a multi-faceted personality as a poet, lyricist and actor,” Chavan said.

Umap served the field of folk art till the last breathe of his life, he said. Chavan said Umap’s plays like ‘Jambhul Akhyan’, ‘Baya Daar Ugadh’, ‘Khandobach Lagin’, ‘Vithu Rakhumai’ were extremely popular.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed grief on the demise of Umap saying that a towering personality in the field of folk art had passed into the pages of history. Union Ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushil Kumar Shinde, State PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal and State BJP president Sudhir Mungantiwar too condoled Umap’s death.

“Vithal Umap always represented the commonest of common man through his various ‘Lokshahir’ programmes. His is a big loss to Shahir fraternity,” Deshmukh said. Shinde said the folk artist’s contribution in the field of Marathi culture cannot be forgotten. “His demise is a big loss to all,” he said. Bhujbal said Umap was a great artiste and an equally fantastic human being.

“Umap highlighted the miseries of neglected and deprived sections of the society. He will always be remembered as a milestone in Shahir fraternity in Maharashtra,” the minister said. Mungantiwar said Umap was a studious personality who respected and helped everyone.

Lee Ryan (born 17 June 1983, Chatham, Kent, England) is an English singer-songwriter, actor and member of the British boy band Blue.

Early life

Ryan was born in Chatham, Kent. His parents split up when he was five years old. Ryan mostly lived with his mother, sister Gemma and his grandmother. At the age of 5 it was discovered that he suffered from dyslexia. Ryan attended Chatham Grammar School for Boys, which was then followed by performing arts schools, including the independent fee-paying theatre schools Sylvia Young Theatre School and Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.

Blue

Ryan is a member of boy band Blue[2]. In August of 2005, Blue split up to pursue solo careers under the advice of Sir Elton John[3]. Blue reformed on the 28th of April 2009 [4]. Ryan has had three number one hits while with Blue[5].

2005: Solo career

Ryan is a tenor. He released his first single “Army of Lovers” on 18 July 2005. It was released to mixed reviews and debuted (and peaked) at #3 in the UK Singles Chart. It hit #1 in Italy. On 1 August 2005, Ryan released his debut album, Lee Ryan, to mixed reviews. The album reached #6 in the UK Album Chart and #3 in Italy, where it has spent 5 weeks in the Top 10. On 10 October that year, Ryan released his second solo single “Turn Your Car Around“. The single peaked at #12. In late 2005, Dolce & Gabbana signed Ryan up to be UK face of their new line of clothing. In January 2006, Ryan released his third and final single in the UK “When I Think of You“. The song reached #15 in the UK. He later presented two more tracks. “Real Love” was used for the end credits of the film Ice Age 2: The Meltdown which later led to Ryan voicing the part of an elk in the UK version of the movie. “How Do I” was released on Ryan’s website in the form of a video which he directed. He had previously co-directed the video for Blue’s single “Breathe Easy” which he also wrote.

2007-onwards: Musical hiatus and comeback

After the relative success of his first solo album, Ryan started planning his second solo album. Two tracks, “Stand Up As People” and “Free” were released on his MySpace page. Ryan began promotion for the album with a number of live and acoustic performances across the UK in spring 2007. He also announced on his website that he has recently finished filming a TV show for BBC2, and also filmed a 24 Hours With… special for ITV which aired in June 2007. In September 2007, he appeared as one of the contestants in Hell’s Kitchen. However he had a row with Marco Pierre White about White’s use of the term “pikey”, and was fired from the show.[6]

The single “Reinforce Love” was released on 10 December 2007. The single was being released for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Clic Sargent, which were the two charities that Ryan was touring for in November and December 2007, with young voices. The album was then postponed, and finally cancelled.

In August and September 2008, Ryan also acted alongside Natalie Casey in The Pretender Agenda at The New Players Theatre in London. Ryan filmed two movies in the United States, which are available only on the internet.[7]

He has also taken to writing, and revealed on Loose Women that he and British writer Kelly Marcel had collaborated on a film together. Ryan also appeared on a celebrity edition of Come Dine With Me, aired on 17 September 2008 alongside fellow celebrities Peter Stringfellow, Michelle Heaton and Linda Barker. He finished in joint first place with Linda Barker, both of whom scored 26 points. He has also appeared in series 22, episode 9 of Never Mind the Buzzcocks on 27 November 2008 alongside Mark Watson and Katy Brand, where he got continuously slated by most of the guests and in particular, host Simon Amstell. He had failed to appear on the show almost exactly a year before, being replaced by Dappy from N-Dubz.

On 28 April 2009, Blue announced their reformation. In March 2010 it was confirmed that Ryan had signed to Geffen Records and was making an album of dance music. The first single from the project, “Secret Love” was to be released on 3 May 2010.[8] However, the single release has been pushed back to July 2010.

Despite large amount of airplay in the United Kingdom, the single only managed to peak at #33 on the UK Singles Chart.

Controversies

In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks on New York city, the group was being interviewed on BBC and, in the midst of it, Ryan commented that “This New York thing is being blown out of proportion” and asked “What about whales? They are ignoring animals that are more important. Animals need saving and that’s more important”. The other members of the band tried to silence him but Ryan went on.[9]

On 31 December 2007, he was arrested for an assault on a taxi driver in Oxted, Surrey. He was released on bail until February 2008 [10]. At Guildford Magistrates’ Court on 24 June 2008 he was fined £300. He claimed in court “he felt targeted because he is famous”.[11] As a result of this, he was fired from his prime time ITV show which he was due to appear in 6 episodes[12]

Personal life

In June 2008, Ryan announced he was engaged to Samantha Miller, 25, having met on Myspace. Miller had become pregnant, and they were engaged to be married in 2009. On 30 November 2008, the couple had a healthy boy called Rayn Amethyst Lee.

Ryan is a supporter of Charlton Athletic F.C..

Each letter of the name rules 9 years of life.  Ages 0 to 27 are ruled by the sum of the month of birth and the first three letters of the name.

Lee Ryan      June 17th, 1983

6 (June) + 12 (L is the 12th letter of the alphabet) + 5 (e is the 5th letter of the alphabet) + 5 (e is the 5th letter of the alphabet) = 28

So from ages zero to twenty-seven he has the number 28 going on.

28 = Bold.  Daring.  Possibilities.  Overcoming obstacles.  Where there’s a will there’s a way.  Making the impossible possible.  Nothing is impossible.  Fortune favors the bold.  Only the strong survive.

UPDATE 10/7/10 3:15pm: According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, Carly D. Henley, 20, a 2008 graduate of Highline High School, was found dead Wednesday night in a stairwell of a fraternity house near the University of Washington.

Henley’s death was ruled as “asphyxiation due to hanging.”

Seattle Police reports that Henley’s body was found at the Phi Delta Theta frat house, located at NE 47th Street and 21st Ave NE.

Henley, a very popular 2008 Highline High grad, was an aspiring singer and songwriter, and was also a member of the Delta Gamma sorority on campus.

Thursday afternoon, Carly’s family released the following statement:

Carly Danielle Henley was 20 years old when she took her own life on October 6, 2010 near the University of Washington. Her tragic death has left hundreds of family, friends, sorority sisters and classmates grieving. The family appreciates privacy and an honoring of both Carly’s life and death.

A candlelight vigil will be held Friday night for Henley, beginning at 8pm in front of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity house, located at 4520 21st Ave NE.

Here’s a quote from her MySpace page:

I’m Carly Henley, 19 year old singer songwriter from Seattle and I absolutely love music. It’s my passion, my best friend, my outlet, my soul. I love it with all of my being and that’s why I do it. Thanks for listening!

Carly worked at many Burien businesses, including Angelo’s, and most recently, 909 Coffee & Wine, where she worked this last summer.

Numerous condolences are already appearing on Carly’s Facebook Page; here’s one that was emailed to us:

“If I had to choose one word to describe Carly, it would be soulful. Her passion, beauty, and ability to show her love for those she cared about went above and beyond what most people merely dream of. Everyone will miss her music, friendship, and ability to spread smiles to every corner of her life. What I will never stop missing is knowing a divine woman who had the ability to express just how wonderful, crazy, brief, and fragile every moment we have is. She’s still with us, lightening our souls when we need it most.”

OK, I have seen this kid play about 5 times now…and he is quite possibly the best guitarist I have ever seen…and when I first saw him he was 8 years old! Of course, he is now a very grown-up 10 years old. Anyway, does he have a band and has he yet cut any CDs?I would love to see him gig with The B’z or even Sambomaster. If anybody knows of him, please give me some more information…because we will be hearing a LOT from him in the future. I was blown away when he played Crazy Train with Ozzy Osbourne at LiveBlizzCon in 2009.

Most women about to deliver a child prefer to sit at home and count the seconds till their water breaks. But singer Keke Wyatt, who is nine months pregnant with her fourth child, put on a show over the weekend at the Miami Beach Bruthaz/WassupNATL Invasion just one week before her due date. She even dropped down to the floor at one point while she sang.

Color me impressed. The most strenuous thing I did during the final months of my pregnancies was complain, but Wyatt delivered a gorgeous rendition of “Eye is On the Sparrow,” among other songs.

See the video after the jump, plus three things about Wyatt you may not know, including why she’s most famous.

* Wyatt made her debut at age 5, singing the song “Beautiful.”

* She was on her high school varsity wrestling team.

* If her name sounds familiar, this may be why: In 2002, she was accused of stabbing her husband, Rahmat Morton, with a steak knife. Weeks after the Christmas Day incident, sales of her album “Soul Sista” went through the roof.

And here Wyatt is tempting the pregnancy gods with her performance.

Well, two weeks ago Stacey Tookey used this cool song, “Jar of Hearts”, in her routine for Billy and Kathryn.  I liked it a ton, looked it up afterward, and had trouble seeing it anywhere outside youtube.  Well, that’s because it turns out the singer, Christina Perri, was a waitress up until two weeks ago, and now because of the show, she’s on the itunes top twenty and has sold a hundred thousand copies of her song.  And now that I know it’s up on itunes, she’s going to sell one more.   She sits at the piano and sings, accompanied by two violins, a cello and an unseen backing singer.  Allison and Neil dance in the contemporary standard – flowy white.  She’s in a floaty dress, he’s got an open shirt to whip around in.  The costumes might as well have been culled from previous performances.

Anyhow, I really like the song, although the studio version is a bit better than the live one.  I love the backstory, though.  Christina Perri, you’re talented (if a little hyperbolic.)  I hope you can make this work, particularly without losing yourself in the process.
