Police said that they discovered the body of the former University of Memphis standout and Memphis Grizzlies player in a forested area in the southeast part of Memphis, reported The Associated Press.
Curtis Wright, his uncle, confirmed that the body was of the 34-year-old Lorenzen Wright. Several days ago, his family suspected that something was wrong when he had not turned up and filed a missing person report.
Wright, a native of Memphis, was last seen at a barbershop on July 18, where he was getting a haircut.
His mother told WREG television station that his six children were very concerned about their father’s disappearance in the past few days.
Over 13 seasons, Wright played for several teams, including the Los Angeles Clippers, the Atlanta Hawks, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Sacramento Kings. He ended his career playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 6-foot-11-inch power forward maintained an average of 8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Former NBA superstar Penny Hardaway, who used to play with Wright on the Grizzlies, told AP that his death is tragic “because we lost a good person and a brother.”
