Benson Henderson, who defeated Frankie Edgar by decision at UFC 144 in Japan early this year, now defends his championship against the man he just beat for the championship. Benson will be looking to push the pace like he did in the first fight and will try to finish Frankie this time around. On the other hand Frankie will look to make a few minor adjustments this time around against Benson. Every time Frankie has fought in a rematch, he does better than the first time. I give the slight edge to Frankie Edgar in this rematch.
The co-main event features to explosive lightweights as Donald Cerrone faces Melvin Guillard. Once training partners Cerrone and Guillard know a thing or two about each other. Both men have displayed mutual respect for each other, but respect will not stop this fight from being a back and forth war. Both Cerrone and Guillard enjoy staying on their feet and striking. When push comes to shove I have Cerrone pulling out a decision.
Jake Shields will be returning to the middleweight division as he faces Ed Herman. Herman that looks for the big shots to knock his opponents out will have a difficult time if Shield’s utilizes his wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu abilities. I believe Shields will want to take the fight to the ground as he will not want to stand and exchange with Herman. I have Shields by decision.
In a middleweight bout between Yushin Okami and Buddy Roberts, I believe Okami’s experience and determination will be showcased as I see Okami getting by Roberts. Okami is coming off a loss to Tim Boetsch in a fight that Okami was winning until being knocked out in the third and final round. I believe with that fight still fresh in his memory, Okami will come out and make a statement against Roberts.
This card may not have all the biggest named fighters competing Saturday night, but there are some interesting matchups as well as young up and coming fighters. One thing is for sure, the main event and co main event will both be good since all four men always go after it.
