After ten years of togetherness, a 32-year-old man killed his wife after celebrations for their wedding anniversary ended on Friday night.
Prince Kocher has been arrested for killing his wife Aanchal (29), who he claimed used to fight with him over “petty issues”, police said on Sunday.
Kocher works as a scrap dealer in Janakpuri. Police claimed to have become suspicious after they spotted injury marks on his hand. He broke down during questioning and confessed to the crime, police said.
“It was their wedding anniversary on Friday. The couple and their two children went to Connaught Place for dinner. They later left the children at Aanchal’s parents’ house in Mahavir Enclave and returned home,” said V Renganathan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).
Aanchal was later found in an unconscious state by her son Sahil and the domestic help, police said. “She was taken to the hospital where she was declared brought dead,” police said.
“Kocher told us that it was unable to tolerate the regular pressure and taunts by his wife, so he decided to murder her,” Renganathan said.
Kocher had, in fact, tried to commit suicide twice in the past five years, allegedly over his wife’s nagging behaviour, police said. He had taken an overdose of sleeping pills five years ago, and around two years ago he had tried to cut his wrist, they added.
“Police saw fresh injury marks on his right hand. When asked, he very confidently said he was hurt while cleaning his motorcycle,” Renganathan said. “There were some other scratch marks on the inner side of his arms, near the shoulders. On sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime.”
After the couple returned home, they consumed alcohol, police said. Later in the night, Kocher hit Aanchal and tried to strangulate her. “He pressed her mouth with his hands and as Aanchal resisted, he sustained injuries,” police said.
Hours after celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary, a wife was smothered to death by her husband who was tired of their constant quarrels and fights, police said Sunday. The man has been arrested.
Prince Kocher, 32 murdered Anchal Kocher, 29 in their home in Janakpuri in west Delhi on the night of Feb 25-26 by suffocating her following an altercation.
According to police, they became suspicious of Prince when they found injury marks on his right hand and arms during investigation. Moreover, all the household articles were intact and the children were at their grandparents house on the night of the crime.
‘The accused soon confessed to killing his wife because they were not having a cordial relationship and he was fed up of the quarreling over petty issues. He himself had on two earlier occasions tried to commit suicide over the same issue by taking an excess of sleeping pills five years back and slitting his wrists around a year back,’ a police official said.
On the fateful night, the couple again had a fight and unable to tolerate the taunts, Prince decided to kill her, hitting Anchal on her face before smothering her.
‘The couple had gone to Connaught Place to celebrate their wedding anniversary Friday night, with their two sons, Sahil, 10 and Ishu, 6. On their way back they had dropped the boys with Anchal’s parents in Mahavir Enclave in west Delhi and went home,’ the official added.
