On Friday night, Comedian Robert Schimmel died in a Phoenix hospital from injuries he sustained in a car accident, according to his manager Lee Kernis. He was 60.

Schimmel was a passenger in a car driven by his 19-year-old daughter Aliyah on August 26. She lost control of the vehicle after swerving to avoid hitting another accident on the freeway. Schimmel’s 11-year-old son was also in the car, but was uninjured, according to Reuters. The daughter was injured and hospitalized, but is expected to recover.

Schimmel detailed his battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in a book he authored entitled “Cancer on $5 a Day.” He was diagnosed with the disease in 2000, but made a complete recovery.

The comedian was best known for his appearances on Howard Stern’s radio show and for his a number of comedy specials on HBO.

Schimmel is survived by three children from his first marriage, Jessica, Aliyah and Jacob — a fourth child, Derek, died of cancer at the age of 11 — and two sons from his second marriage, Max and Sam.
