Wednesday, 12 May 2010 22:05 UK

Charlie Francis, the former coach of disgraced Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson, has died at the age of 61.

Canadian Francis died on Wednesday at a Toronto hospital after a five-year battle with cancer.

Francis was working with Johnson when the sprinter became the first athlete to be stripped of an Olympic gold medal for using banned drugs.

Johnson tested positive for the steroid stanozolol after winning the 100m at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

Athletics Canada banned Francis from coaching for life after he told a 1989 inquiry into the scandal that he had introduced Johnson to steroids.

10 + 13 +1+9+4+8 = 45 = his life lesson = what he was here to learn = Replace a bad habit with a good one.  Common sense is uncommon.  Is the glass half empty or half full?  Still waters run deep.  Do it yourself.  If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  Educate yourself.  Figure it out.  Work smarter – not harder.  Working long hours.  Investing time and energy.  Toughen up.  Deep impact.  Powerful force.  Maximum intensity.  Pump up the volume.  Go where the energy is.  Life-affirming.  The school of hard knocks.  Trial & error.  Personal space.  Keep it secret.  Why do you ask?  That’s personal.  That’s none of your business.  Private investigator.  See through.  X-ray.  Every cloud has a silver lining.  Count not what is lost but what is left.  Accepting loss.  Take away.  Tunnel vision.  Let it go.  What is not.  Shades of gray.  You’re being hard on yourself.  It’s all your fault.  Suffering in silence.  Feel sorry for.  Ouch.  That’s gotta hurt.  Hard feelings.  Hard eyes.  Kick the habit.  If it happened once, it can happen again.  Snakes bite.  Coulda, shoulda, woulda.  Bitter marriage.  The middle finger.  expectations > reality = disappointment
