The other big winners of the evening were The Hurt Locker, which took six Oscars in all, including the top prize, Best Picture, and Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow – the first women ever to win an Academy Award in that category, a fact that was not lost on presenter Barbra Streisand. Upon opening the envelope, the singer-actress-director said, “Well, the time has come.”

The Hurt Locker is a 2008 American war thriller directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It was one of the most acclaimed films of 2009, earning awards and honors from numerous organizations, festivals and groups. The film follows a United States Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team during the Iraq War.

Brits Celebrate the BAFTAs

The war drama The Hurt Locker picked up the most awards, taking home six in total, including Best Film.
