41 + 10 (October) = 51 = his personal month (from October 28th, 2010 to November 27th, 2010) = Brutal.  Harsh.

When his number (51 (10 +28 +1+9+3+0 = 51)) comes up, that’s when he gets to live/experience what he is here to live/experience.  So this is HIS month!!!

A New York City man who plunged 40 stories from the rooftop of an apartment building has survived after crashing onto a parked car.

Witnesses and police say 22-year-old Thomas Magill jumped from the high-rise at West 63rd Street on Tuesday. He landed in the backseat area of a Dodge Charger after crashing through the windshield.

He suffered broken legs. Police say he’s in critical condition.

The car’s owner, Guy McCormack, of Old Bridge, N.J., told the Daily News he’s convinced that rosary beads he kept inside the Dodge saved Magill’s life.

Police are investigating why Magill jumped from the building.

Magill isn’t the only New Yorker to survive a high-rise fall. Window washer Alcides Moreno fell 47 stories from the roof of a skyscraper in December 2007, and doctors expected him to walk again.

A Wisconsin investigation has determined there was nothing mechanically wrong with a free fall ride when a 12-year-old Florida girl fell about 100-feet to the ground.

The state Department of Commerce report released Thursday indicates the operator at the top of the Terminal Velocity did not follow protocol when Teagan Marti fell July 30 at the Extreme World amusement park in the Wisconsin Dells.

The report says Marti was dropped before the cage in which she was riding reached the top and before a net was in proper position.

Thirty-three-year-old Charles Carnell was the dive master and was charged with one count of first-degree-reckless injury.

Marti was severely injured and may be paralyzed. She was transferred Wednesday to a Florida hospital. The ride remains closed.

Michael Douglas: Radiation, Chemo 'Really Knocks You Out'

Wednesday September 01, 2010 08:00 AM EDT

Michael Douglas knows he has a tough road ahead – but he’s ready to face it.

“It’s a fight,” says the 65-year-old Oscar winner, who is undergoing a grueling course of radiation and chemotherapy to treat a tumor at the base of his tongue, and adds of his treatment: “It really knocks you out.”

Douglas reveals in this week’s PEOPLE cover story that he received the diagnosis of throat cancer in early August after suffering persistent throat and ear pain.

Douglas’s wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, 40, says she has struggled with seeing her normally tireless husband slowed by the effects of his treatment.

“The hardest part is seeing his fatigue, because Michael is never tired,” Zeta-Jones tells PEOPLE. She says Douglas told their children Dylan, 10, and Carys, 7, the difficult news himself: “Daddy sat them down and told them he has cancer now.”

The diagnosis capped what Douglas, who is next starring in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, calls “a pretty intense year” that also saw his oldest son Cameron, 31, sentenced to five years in prison on drug charges.

But, says Zeta-Jones, “if there’s anything Michael has, it’s strength.”

9/1/2010 3:33:30 PM ET

A 28-year-old Vancouver, Wash., woman who had acid thrown in her face has undergone surgery at a Portland hospital.

Legacy Emanuel Medical Center spokeswoman Amber Shoebridge said Wednesday night that Bethany Storro’s surgery went well and she was resting.

Bethany Storro, of Vancouver, Wash., was getting something out of her car in downtown Vancouver when the attack happened Monday evening, her mother Nancy Neuwelt told The Oregonian.

Neuwelt said a young woman walked up to her daughter, said: “Hey pretty girl, do you want to drink this?” and tossed a cup of liquid in Storro’s face.

“I’m a nice girl and I don’t know why this happened,” Storro, 28, said Tuesday in her hospital room in the Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, The Columbian newspaper reported.

Storro said the pain was the most excruciating she had ever experienced, her mother told The Columbian.

“It was burning through her shirt. She took off her shirt and she was trying to wipe her face,” Neuwelt said, according to the newspaper.

‘Felt like her heart stopped’
Storro “kind of remembers walking in circles,” Neuwelt added. “She felt like her heart stopped at one point.”

She collapsed, screaming for help, only to realize she was not being heard. She got back up and stumbled toward a group of people, The Oregonian reported.

“Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers,” Storro said in a written statement Tuesday, The Oregonian reported. “I appreciate all of the well wishes being sent my way. I do ask, if anyone should know the woman who assaulted me, please contact the Vancouver Police.”

Neuwelt said her daughter was wearing a pair of sunglasses she had bought shortly before the attack and that may have saved her eyesight. Still, Storro’s family said her face will take months to heal.

“It’s very bizarre, very random and very weird, and we don’t understand it,” Neuwelt told The Columbian, speaking by phone from her daughter’s bedside.

“She’s having a hard time,” she added. “It’s changed her life now and her emotions are all over the place.”

Recently moved to city
Neuwelt told The Columbian that her daughter had recently moved to Vancouver and was single with no children.

“She wanted to make a fresh start and this happened,” Neuwelt, a worship leader and administrative assistant at a local church, told the paper. “Bethany is a really great, fun, energetic and adorable girl, and she didn’t deserve this.”

“I am so disgusted with society right now!” Storro’s brother, Abraham Neuwelt of Seattle, said on his Facebook page, The Columbian reported.

“Yesterday my little sister got some form of acid thrown into her face while walking through downtown Vancouver, WA. She is currently in the hospital with severe burns and could face permanent damage. This incident was totally unprovoked and malicious in nature. If you believe in prayer, now is the time to ask for a full recovery and that the assailant be brought to justice!”

Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said doctors and authorities were trying to determine what kind of substance caused Storro’s facial burns.

Police said the assailant was described as a black woman between 25 and 35, who wore a green shirt and khaki shorts, The Columbian reported. She had medium-length black hair that was pulled back.

The family of the woman at the center of a tragic hospital mix-up following a car crash says she’s improving.

Abby Guerra opened her eyes on Sunday, the first time she has done so since the crash and is breathing on her own with the help of oxygen, her family said in a statement posted on the family’s website.

The website, www.abbysfightforlife.com, was been set up for donations to Guerra’s medical care, and also to provide updates about her condition.

“She still has a long way to go but today was definitely an improvement,” Sunday’s update read. “Please continue praying for Abby.”

For days, the family of Marlena Cantu kept vigil by Guerra’s hospital bedside, mistakenly believing their daughter was the one under the bandages, until being told she was the one who had actually died.

“I’m really grateful for the Cantu family because they were at my daughter’s side everyday, taking care of her,” Maria Guerra, mother of Abby Guerra, told “Good Morning America” today. “I know they’re going through a lot of pain because I went through it already. I just want them to be strong and really, give them all the support. … They were taking care of my daughter.”

The funeral for Marlena Cantu is scheduled for today.

Abby Guerra and Marlena Cantu were riding together on a highway in Arizona when they were in a car wreck two weeks ago. Their families were told Guerra was killed in the wreck and Cantu was fighting for her life in critical condition.

After five days of prayer and worry for one family and grieving for another, the hospital gave the families shocking news: There had been a mix-up. Guerra was the one in critical condition. Cantu was dead.

“It’s hard to describe,” Maria Guerra told reporters Wednesday.

The family had already planned Abby Guerra’s funeral.

Maria Guerra said she was repeatedly rebuffed when she tried to see what she thought were her daughter’s remains. It was only after an autopsy that was scheduled for Friday of last week that she said officials would allow her to see her daughter the next day.

But before she could do that, Guerra said, officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety came to her home asking questions about her daughter.

“They didn’t tell me anything at that time. … I don’t know what to express but it was really hard to understand what was going on,” Guerra said.

Eventually, the officials left, but not before gathering her daughter’s toothbrush and retainer, possibly to aid in identification.

Maria Guerra said she didn’t find out about the mix-up until at least two hours later when the family was to retrieve their daughter’s remains to prepare them for her funeral.

“Despite our daily requests to view the body, we were not permitted to do so for the six days between being notified of her death and the revelation she was alive,” Abby’s aunt, Dorenda Cisneros, told reporters Wednesday. “If this had occurred, we strongly feel that this horrible situation could have been avoided.”
