Prayers have been answered. Wishes have come true.
Frank McCourt is selling the Dodgers.
This is a swell day for Los Angeles.
I’m almost afraid to begin celebrating, or renewing my share of a season ticket plan, because it does have that “too good to be true” element to it.
But even a minor league businessman like McCourt had to eventually realize he’d dug himself in so deep, there was no other way out than selling the team.
The news comes after a Dodger attorney showed just how bush McCourt’s organization is when, last week, he trashed Bryan Stow, the victim of a savage beating on the first day of the season last year. It’s been amateur hour at Dodger Stadium since Frank and wife Jamie McCourt moved in; a few good seasons followed by nothing but price hikes and obscene levels of high living by both McCourts, who drained the team’s resources, avoided paying taxes and turned a winner into a loser.
I don’t know who will step up and buy this team, but whoever it is can’t do worse. You could grab anyone off the street and get better results.
This day could be improved only if McCourt’s next announcement is that he’s moving back to Boston.
Frank H. McCourt was born on August 14th, 1953 at 3:57 p.m. in Boston, MA according to http://www.astro.com/astro-databank/McCourt,_Frank_H.
