Gambhir guides India to easy win

A composed 82 by Gautam Gambhir and an unbeaten 38 from skipper MS Dhoni ensured a comprehensive six-wicket victory for India against Bangladesh in Dambulla.

India got off to a compact start in pursuit of a paltry Bangladesh target but lost Virender Sehwag in the process. Virat Kohli has joined Gautam Gambhir in the process.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib-al-Hasan struck twice in the same over to knock off Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as India fell into a bit of a lurch in their chase.

Bangladesh are 167 all out

Virender Sehwag picked up his ODI best figures, picking up four wickets and conceding six runs to help India bowl out Bangladesh for a paltry 167.

Iqbal took Bangladesh off to a brisk start before being done in by Praveen Kumar.

Mohammad Ashraful struggled to get going in the middle and eventually fell to Nehra, caught by Praveen Kumar at deep square leg.

Nehra struck for the second time and Kayes was on his way back to the hut. Bangladesh are losing their way here- an all too similar script.

Harbhajan Singh joined the party for India. There was no turn on that one and Bangla skipper Shakib-al-Hasan was beaten all ends up as his timber lay in disarray.

Ravindra Jadeja picked up Mahmadullah and half the Bangladesh side was back in the pavilion.

Sixth man down for Bangladesh as Virender Sehwag gets Mushfiqur Rahim for 30.

The Toss

Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first against India in their opening Asia Cup encounter at Dambulla.

Brief Preview

A rejuvenated India would look to redeem their pride and end a 15-year-old jinx when they start their Asia Cup campaign against Bangladesh at the Rangiri Dambulla ground today.

Hurting from their debacles in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup (West Indies) and the tri-series in Zimbabwe, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men would be desperate to win back the confidence of fans after being accused of being more loyal to their IPL teams than the country.
