The Closer’s Kyra Sedgwick won her first Emmy Award on today’s show. But 2010 wasn’t the first time this talented actress was nominated. The venerable performer has been given a nod multiple times in the past (this was her fifth nom in a row).
This year, as always, Sedgwick looked terrific, wearing a blood red Monique Lillier gown. She gave a heart warming acceptance speech as if she was looking straight at her husband of 21 years, Kevin Bacon, who was in town from London to support his wife.
Meanwhile, Kyra’s competition was fierce. Included in her category was Julianna Margulies, for The Good Wife; Mariska Hargitay for Special Victims Unit, Glenn Close for Damages, January Jones for Mad Men and Connie Britton for Friday Night Lights.
But Sedgwick, a very popular actress with a storied career, won for her fine work playing tough Southern detective Brenda Leigh Johnson.
So congratulations to The Closer’s Kyra Sedwick for her very first Emmy Award win on today’s show — a star no matter how you look at it.
