It’s the homestretch of NFL draft preparation. We are at Saturday morning, and the draft begins on Thursday night. I have said it before, and I will say it again, this is a great time of the year. No matter how the previous season ended, this is a great time to be a fan of the Jets, or any team. We are all 0-0, and this is the time where our teams get prepared for battle. And it is fun. Anyone who has been following this site knows, as the draft has been approaching, we are taking a look at players the Jets have had in for workouts, and talked about whether they would be a decent investment for the Jets. We continue that trend this morning, where we take a look at a guy that announced via Twitter he was coming to visit the Jets. The Jets need depth on the offensive line, and here is a candidate that would provide just that. Today we look at Oday Aboushi from the University of Virginia.
Oday Aboushi measures in at 6’5″, 308 pounds. At the NFL Combine, he ran the forty yard dash in 5.45 seconds.
Take a look at his full profile from our friends at nflmocks.com.
PROS: Size sticks out to me initially with this guy. He could add some girth, being only 308 pounds, but 6’5″ is a reasonable height to get the job done. He is strong enough to take his opponent out of the play in run blocking, leading him out of the play.
CONS: First thing he needs to improve his footwork. It sometimes is great, sometimes, not so much. It became more obvious to me in the passing game, where the defender used it to get past him fairly easily. More size will help him stand his ground against rushers as well.
Depth is depth, and you can never have too much of it. But, I am not sure how “NFL ready” this young man really is. I don’t know that he will be ready to make this team so fast right away. But as I said, depth is depth. Offensive line depth is like pitching, you can never have too much.
Oday Aboushi was born on June 5th, 1991 according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oday_Aboushi
