She was identified as Dipti Wadhwa, a team leader at BPO major Tech Mahindra. A motorist on the flyover who saw Dipti slam the door of her car and walk to the side railings, rushed to stop her but she gave him no chance, police said. Before taking the extreme step, Dipti sent three identical text messages to her siblings, two elder sisters who are married and a younger brother studying to be a chartered accountant. It just said ”I am sorry”.
Till late night, police had not been able to figure out why she killed herself. She left no suicide note.
According to V Renganathan, DCP (west), Dipti reached her Paschim Vihar residence in her office cab in the early hours of Thursday after completing her night shift. ”The guard dropped her off around 5.30am. An hour later, she told her mother that she was going out for a morning walk. Instead, she took her father’s car and drove off around 6.30am,” he said.
The cops said that once she reached the flyover, Dipti parked the car next to the footpath around 7.10am. ”She left the car keys and her mobile inside, and slammed the door. Then she jumped off,” Renganathan said.
Rahul, an eyewitness who was the first to seek police help, said he saw Dipti lying in a pool of blood under the flyover.
”I saw her right leg move which indicated she was alive. She was wearing slippers and she had even kept the parking lights of her car on. I rushed to the Moti Nagar police station nearby and got senior cops to the spot. By that time, a PCR van had already arrived,” Rahul said. Dipti was taken to DDU Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. Cops said they have recovered a diary from the car. ”The girl left no suicide note. We have sent a police team to her office in Noida and are trying to talk to her parents,” said a senior cop.
Meanwhile, the colony guard at Paschim Vihar added to the mystery saying ”an unknown man” came enquiring about her after she had left in the morning. ”We are trying to talk to her siblings. But obviously they are all in shock and it will take sometime before we can get to the bottom of the case,” a police officer said.
