The 41-year-old – uneasy with the title of “most hated” on the hit Channel 9
series – told The Daily Telegraph she was “glad (the Qantas dispute)
went down over the weekend because it took the heat off me.”
Comparing the airline war to her own TV boardroom battles, Hines said: “Just
put yourself in that boardroom, when Mr Man (Joyce) decided he was going to pull
every plane, internationally and domestically. Do you think some words or some
fists were thrown down on tables?”
Attacked in online forums for her clashes with contestants Polly Porter and
Jesinta Campbell, the ARIA-winner defended herself over claims
she threw tantrums and “disrespected” her rivals. Fired by TV boss Mark Bouris,
Hines said she took offence at being instructed by Porter
While the car crash television has helped rock the ratings (with

Hines complained she’d been the target of vicious “cyber-bullying,” but had
also found a few fans.
“I was out on the Central Coast on the weekend and it was bizarre. A lot of
people came up to me and were like ‘we love you on the show, man. We love that
you’re so truthful.’ I know there’s a lot of people out there who think I’m not
and they’re hating on me, but it’s cyber-bullying.”
She hit back at suggestions she had built her career on the back of her
mother Marcia Hines fame.
“I’ve never ridden on my mother’s coat tails. While they’re bitching about
me, Google me as well and you’ll work out there’s only been one single that I’ve
done with my mother. People want us to sing together and I won’t do it….if
someone else were to talk about their mum it wouldn’t be such an issue, would
Hines said she was keen to get back to what she does best – singing and a
newfound interest in acting.
Hines is set to appear in a new ABC TV drama series, Ms Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, starring Essie Davies –
and will sing at the broadcaster’s 2012 schedule reveal on November 23.
“I want to get back to what I do, that’s my true calling.”
