‘I was fired for turning down my sex-crazed bosses’

MARCH 01, 2014             12:04AM

A STRAPPING young New York public relations rep claims his female bosses treated him like a sexy hunk of meat — and then quickly kicked him to the curb when he turned down their sleazy proposals, according to a lawsuit.

Joseph Earl Jackson says his supervisors at Open Communications Omnimedia in Chelsea flirted with him, fondled him and even asked him to take part in a salacious “bang sesh.”

Jackson said he “endured” seven months of lusty ladies hugging him, kissing him and telling him, “You are so handsome” at their company offices.

The junior account coordinator claims the company’s chief strategist, Sally O’Dowd, told him “how she loved young black and Hispanic men” and “that she loved how sexy his chest and deltoids were in his white button- down shirt,” according to the Manhattan civil suit.

O’Dowd even allegedly commented on Jackson’s penis size after a client pitched a new product — a case with a condom inside.

She said the condom “probably wouldn’t fit Joseph,” the suit claims.

Jackson, who was hired in July 2013, says O’Dowd, “without warning, hugged him three times,” “sexually whispered into his ear, ‘You are so handsome,’ ” and kissed him on the nape of his neck.

The incident left him “distraught,” he says in court papers.

The alleged harassment did not stop with O’Dowd, the suit claims, adding that another supervisor, Kathryn Campisano, allegedly pursued Jackson on the sly.

The supervisor allegedly sent him a text message last November that asked, “When are we going to have our bang sesh?”

She followed up the query a month letter with a message that read, “I’m going to need you to be my next boyfriend Joseph,” the suit says.

Jackson remained a loyal employee despite the distractions, he claims in court papers that say he “endured, he continued to perform as a stellar employee,” and was even given more responsibility in mid-February.

But when Jackson complained to Open Communications CEO John Andrew Morris, the exec allegedly ridiculed him in front of his colleagues.

Morris called Jackson “a hater that needed to be removed,” the suit says, and he was canned on Feb. 21.

The harassment has left him feeling “extremely humiliated, degraded, victimised, embarrassed, and emotionally distressed,” according to the suit, which is seeking unspecified damages.

Representatives for Open Communications did not return messages for comment.

The Walt Disney Company has given notice to the Boy Scouts of America that it will pull all funding to the group starting in 2015 because of a BSA membership policy that bans gay leaders, the entertainment company said Friday.

Disney does not give money directly to the national organization or local BSA councils. However, through its VoluntEARS program, Disney allows employees to do volunteer work in exchange for cash donations to the charities of their choice.

Employees taking part in the VoluntEARS program will no longer be able to submit the funds to the Boy Scouts, the organization said. The new policy will not affect Walt Disney employees who volunteer with the Scouts, the company said.

“We believe every child deserves the opportunity to be a part of the Scouting experience, and we are disappointed in this decision because it will impact our ability to serve kids,” BSA spokesman Deron Smith said in a statement. “America’s youth need Scouting, and by continuing to focus on the goals that unite us, we continue to accomplish incredible things for young people and the communities we serve.”

Though the Boy Scouts voted last year to allow gay youths to join its ranks, the group maintains a ban on gay Scout leaders.

According to Disney’s charitable giving guidelines, groups become ineligible to receive Disney funding if they “discriminate in the provision of services unlawfully or in a manner inconsistent with Disney’s policies on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, national origin, age, marital status, mental or physical ability, or sexual orientation.”

Disney would not divulge its formula for converting volunteer hours to dollars, but a chart on Disney’s corporate website shows that in 2010, employees raised $4.8 million via 548,000 volunteer hours, which works out to $8.79 an hour.

Among the events for which employees volunteered were a triathlon for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, the Revlon Run-Walk for cancer, Children’s Hospital of Orange County Walk at Disneyland Resort and the Champion 5K at ESPN for the V Foundation, according to Disney.

Deena Fidas, the director of workplace equality for the Human Rights Campaign, said Disney’s decision “carries a unique weight. When you think about brands that exemplify childhood, you think of Disney, and with them dissociating with BSA, it speaks volumes of where we are with the views we want to send to young people.”

In a recent report, HRC cited numerous victories in its quest to ensure workplace equality and applauded the majority of Fortune 500 companies that now offer sexual-orientation and gender-identity protections to their employees.

Despite that, “we know that over 50% of (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) employees remain closeted on the job,” the report said.

On Thursday, Scouts for Equality, which says it works to end discrimination within the BSA, praised Walt Disney World for ending local support for the BSA’s Central Florida Council.

“We’re never happy to see Scouting suffer as a result of the BSA’s anti-gay policy, but Disney made the right decision to withhold support until Scouting is fully inclusive,” Eagle Scout and Scouts for Equality co-founder Zach Wahls said in a statement.

Scouts for Equality says Disney joins Lockheed Martin, Caterpillar, Major League Soccer, Merck, Intel and UPS as companies who have ended partnerships with the Scouts because of its policy. Fidas said Alcoa and AT&T are also on that list.

A McDonald’s customer is suing the fast food restaurant for $1.5million because he was given only one napkin with his meal.

Webster Lucas claims he is now unable to work because of the ‘undue mental anguish’ and ’emotional distress’ caused by the incident.

He launched the lawsuit following a row with the store manager at the outlet in Pacoima, California, on January 29.

Tempers seem to have flared after Mr Lucas complained that he had received just a single paper towel with his Quarter Pounder Deluxe.

Mr Lucas, who is African-American, says the he was racially abused by the manager when he went back to the counter to ask for more, according to TMZ.

The employee, who is named only as ‘Angel’ and is said to be of Mexican-American appearance, is alleged to have mumbled something that sounded like ‘you people’, Mr Lucas claims.

Mr Lucas wrote a letter to the restaurant’s manager about the incident in which he complained of his treatment and said he has been mentally scarred.

‘I simply don’t understand, and it is sad that I encountered the now-current situation.

‘Thank you, but I don’t think that you will be successful in changing “Angel’s deep-seated attitude towards customers.

‘I am unable to work because of the undue mental anguish and the intentional infliction of emotional distress caused by your employee “Angel” who played around when I asked for the proper spelling of his last name… that I still don’t have. Take care.’

McDonald’s were unavailable to comment when contacted by MailOnline.

Fearless: Shelby White, 11, is posing with a cougar she shot dead last week on her grandfather's property

16:58 EST              26 February 2014

When Tom White spotted a cougar approaching his teenage son outside their home in rural Washington state last week, there was only one thing to do – hand a gun to his 11-year-old daughter.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Shelby White killed the female cougar, and wildlife officials suggested that the animal may have been sick.

The mountain cat was 4 years old and weighed about 50lbs, which is about half of what an animal that age should weigh.

‘This cougar was very, very skinny,’ State Fish and Wildlife Officer Cal Treser said.

The fearless 11-year-old took action when she saw the cougar following her 13-year-old brother as he was walking towards their home in the town of Twisp, population 940.

In a phone interview with MailOnline Wednesday night, Shelby’s grandfather, William White, revealed that it was a fourth cougar killed on his property in the past several weeks.

Mr White, 64, a cattle rancher, said that earlier this month, Shelby’s 13-year-old brother, Tanner, also shot a cougar that has been circling his farm.

‘We’re real avid hunters,’ Mr White said of his clan, which he described as ‘backwoodsy.’ .

The rancher explained that until recently, local residents were able to keep the cougar population in check by hunting the predators with dogs, but two years ago, the local Legislature outlawed the practice.

William White explained that last Thursday, Shelby and her young brother were walking home from school when a dog started barking, alerting them to the presence of a predator.

‘She looked out, and there was this cougar,’ Mr White recalled.

Washington state’s growing cougar troubles as natural habitat shrinks

Cougars are the largest members of the cat family in North America. Adult males weight 140-180lbs and measure 7-8 feet long from nose to tip of tail.

Cougars live throughout Washington where suitable cover and prey are found. The cougar population for the year 2008 was estimated to be 2,000 to 2,500 animals.

The cougar population in eastern Washington is declining and the western population is stable.

Wildlife offices throughout the state receive hundreds of calls a year regarding sightings, attacks on livestock and pets, and confrontations between the predators and their human neighbors.

The state’s increasing human populations and decreasing cougar habitat may create more opportunities for such encounters.

The animal appeared to be moving in the direction of Shelby’s 13-year-old brother, who was unaware of the danger as he made his way toward the basement door with a bag of animal feed in his hands.

The girl’s father, Tom White, was home at the time, but Shelby was the only one in the family with a tag – a permit to legally kill a cougar.

‘He said, “Shelby, grab that gun and go shoot that cat,”’ White said, adding that the 11-year-old ‘wasn’t scared a bit’ as she pulled the trigger.

‘She was excited to get to do that,’ Mr White recalled.

Luckily for the older brother, the boy didn’t realize he was in danger until the cougar lurking nearby was dead at the hands of his sister.

The 64-year-old farmer used to be a hunter safety instructor and taught all his grandchildren how to properly use weapons.

‘I want my grandkids to know how to protect themselves ‘cause we have a lot predators,’ White explained.

Mr White said that Shelby has been hunting since she was 8 or 9 years old. Every year, the girl bags  a deer with her .234 caliber gun – her weapon of choice because it does not have a powerful recoil.

According to William White, there is still one more cougar somewhere on the property that has been threatening his dogs and cattle.

‘She is eager to shoot it,’ he said of Shelby.

Shelby is not the only one among her three siblings who knows her way around a gun – or a cougar.

According to her grandfather, the girl’s 9-year-old brother, Cody, also bagged himself a cat who wandered onto the ranch and killed one of his calves. A game warden from the Fish and Wildlife Department was present and gave the boy, who had a permit, the green light to pull the trigger.

Tanner White killed himself a cougar earlier that day same.

Analysts are trying to determine why there are more cougar attacks this year than in previous years.

One of the theories suggests that the animals may be wandering into more residential areas in search of food if they are not finding enough deer- their usual prey- to keep them satisfied.

This incident was the third report of a cougar being killed in the span of a week in the area.

Over the course of this winter, however, state officials have tracked and killed give other cougars in the greater Twisp-Winthrop region.

Those five were flagged up after they attacked domestic animals.

An additional five cougars were killed by hunters.

The Fish and Wildlife Department felt it necessary to issue five special permits that allowed hunters to track cougars using dogs and kill the animals.

Diana Mekota posted the marketing exec's nasty email online causing it to go viral

14:02 EST                28 February 2014

A marketing executive who described herself as a ‘passionate advocate’ for job-seekers has been caught out after sending a vitriolic and dismissive email to a young woman looking for work.

Kelly Blazek, who runs a successful online job bank for thousands of professionals in Cleveland, Ohio, sent a vicious reply to a LinkedIn invite and email from Diana Mekota, a 26-year-old moving to the city and searching for a job.

Mekota posted Ms Blazek’s email to her Imgur account, titling it ‘Your humility lesson for the year from a ‘professional”’.

Marketing recruiter Kelly Blazek sent this stinging rejection email to a LinkedIn request from a 26-year-old job hopeful

According to Miss Mekota’s post, Ms Blazek wrote: ‘Your invite to connect is inappropriate, beneficial only to you, and tacky.

‘Wow, I cannot wait to let every 26-year-old jobseeker mine my top-tier marketing connections to help them land a job.’

On a roll, Ms Blazek, who holds an award for ‘Communicator Of The Year’, wrote: ‘I love the sense of entitlement in your generation. And therefore I enjoy Denying your invite, and giving you the dreaded ”I Don’t Know” **** because it’s the truth.

She went on to tell Miss Mekota that she had been denied from her job bank, saying: ‘I suggest you join the other Job Bank in town. Oh wait – there isn’t one.

‘You’re welcome for your humility lesson for the year. Don’t ever reach out to senior practitioners again and assume their carefully curated list of connections is available to you, just because you want to build your network.’

In closing, she wrote: ‘Don’t ever write me again.’

The original email from Miss Mekota on February 19 was a short description of her education and professional achievements after she sent Ms Blazek a LinkedIn request to join her 7,300-member job board.

The 26-year-old sent the LinkedIn invite and email because she was advised not to send her resume by a friend, she said.

Miss Mekota replied to Ms Blazek saying that she did not mean to offend and simply wanted to join her job board.

She told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that she had not posted Ms Blazek’s email in revenge.

The job-seeker said: ‘This was never a personal attack simply because I was turned down. More than anything, it was about the fact that this senior professional was treating young professionals like this, in a time when it’s already difficult to find a job.’

The Internet backlash has been swift and ruthless – with the email receiving thousands of critical responses online, a fake profile of Ms Blazek set up on LinkedIn and a parody Twitter account.

The marketing exec has erased her presence across social media, deleting her LinkedIn and Twitter accounts along with WordPress blog.

Ms Blazek also sent an apology email to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. It read: ‘I am very sorry to the people I have hurt.

‘Creating and updating the Cleveland Job Bank listings has been my hobby for more than ten years. It started as a labor of love for the marketing industry, but somehow it also became a labor, and I vented my frustrations on the very people I set out to help.’

Miss Mekota also tweeted that she had received a personal apology: ‘Would like to let you know Kelly Blazek has sent a very nice apology email, for which I thank her.’

The young woman was not the only one to receive a nasty email from Ms Blazek.

Job-seeker Rick Uldricks told WJW-TV he received an angry email from the businesswoman in December.

She wrote: ‘I suggest you join the other Job Bank in town. Oh – guess what. There isn’t one. Done with this conversation, and you.’

Ms Blazek has since  apologized to Mr Uldricks.

Blazek was named 2013’s ‘Communicator of the Year’ by Cleveland’s branch of the International Association of Business Communicators.

On Thursday, they released this statement: ‘The IABC Cleveland chapter Board of Directors is very much aware of and is actively reviewing the current situation with Ms. Kelly Blazek.

‘The award of Communicator of the Year is not given lightly and any decision about her award will be made mindfully. We are in that process. While some might want a very quick decision, we will react only after thoroughly considering all aspects.’

The Anytime Fitness gym in Wake Forest, N.C., has more than 300 members, but if a very specific three members had not walked in the moment last month that a fellow member fell off the treadmill and hit his head, he likely would have died.

“I give thanks to my Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, for putting this family in that position to be able to save me,” the member, Carlos Ruiz, told local ABC affiliate WTVD.  “Because if not, I really shouldn’t and wouldn’t have been here today.”

The family who saved the life of Ruiz, 57, were a mother and her two daughters, all of whom are in the medical industry, who walked into the gym just as Ruiz suffered heart failure and flew off the back of his treadmill, landing on his head.

Ruiz had been alone in the cardio area of the gym on an early Sunday morning last month when Merrie Gough, a registered nurse, and her two daughters, Danielle, a dental school student, and Elizabeth, a nursing student, arrived.

“He was unresponsive, wasn’t breathing and had no pulse,” Merrie Gough told WTVD.  ”We opened the airway and started basic life support for him.”

As Merrie Gough delivered life support, one of her daughters called 911. Ruiz was transported to a local hospital, the same hospital he was recently discharged from after undergoing two heart surgeries.

“He was lucky that the three individuals walked in when they did,” the gym’s manager, Anna Yeager, told ABCNews.com, adding that the gym is not staffed on Sundays as members have a key that allows them 24-hour access to the gym.

“He was very lucky,” said Yeager, who noted Ruiz is a longtime member of the gym.  “He very easily could have been there and no one would have seen him.”

Ruiz, who reunited with the Goughs this week to thank them, says he is seeing his recovery as a second chance at life.

“Today, I have an opportunity, a second chance, to move on with my life and make a difference,” Ruiz told WTVD.  “I am very lucky to be alive.”
