Enrique Iglesias Will Water Ski Nude After World Cup Bet

Wednesday July 14, 2010 01:25 PM EDT

The upside for Enrique Iglesias: His beloved Spain just won its first World Cup soccer title. The downside: Now, he has to water ski naked in front of the entire city of Miami – as he promised he would if the team won.

“If Spain wins, I’m going to get drunk and ski naked in Biscayne Bay,” the Spanish heartthrob singer, 35, told the BBC on June 23. At that point, the Spanish team had already lost a game and were in danger of not progressing to the knockout phase.

But of course, they did progress – all the way to Sunday’s final, where they beat Holland 1-0.

Now, Iglesias says he’s willing to follow through on his pledge, telling Access Hollywood: “A bet is a bet!”

It’s not clear when Iglesias might make good on the promise, but if he does, it won’t be the first time he’s skipped through the waves in the buff. “That is what we used to do when we were kids,” he told the BBC.

Of course, he can probably expect a larger audience this time around.

Every time a player falters in the World Cup, the media desperately searches for reasons. And, more often than not, the wives and girlfriends are the first to take the blame.

When England’s Robert Green allowed a brutal goal against the United States in their opening group stage match, there was speculation that Green’s breakup with a Canadian model may have affected his psyche.

And when Spain stumbled in its first game against Switzerland — a stunning 1-0 defeat — there were questions about all-world goaltender Iker Casillas’s girlfriend Sara Carbonero, who is a sideline reporter for Spanish television.

But, Spain did not lose another game in the tournament, and team captain Casillas was quite possibly the day’s most important player, saving two sure shots from Arjen Robben in the second half before Andres Iniesta sealed the 1-0 victory with a goal in the 116th minute.

After the game, the relief on Casillas’s face was palpable, and the first Spanish player to lift the golden trophy didn’t hold back his emotions in his first post-game interview with his girlfriend.

Uruguay striker Diego Forlan

Sunday, 11 July 2010 23:06 UK

Uruguay striker Diego Forlan was named the winner of the Golden Ball as the best player of the World Cup.

The Atletico Madrid forward, 31, scored five goals and was a major influence as his team unexpectedly reached the semi-finals in South Africa.

German Thomas Mueller, who also scored five, was named by Fifa as the best young player of the tournament.

Mueller, 20, also won the Golden Boot for most goals – his three assists acting as a tie-breaker.

The German thus beat Forlan, Spain’s David Villa and Wesley Sneijder of the Netherlands to the coveted prize.

Bayern Munich ace Mueller saw off Mexico’s Giovani Dos Santos and Ghana’s Andre Ayew for the young player prize.

“This is just incredible for a newcomer to the World Cup,” Mueller told his club’s official website.

“It’s an honour of course, but at the end of the day, I’d rather have had the World Cup itself.”

Of his young player award, the 20-year-old added: “It’s a huge honour to be part of a group including the likes of Pele, Franz Beckenbauer, Michael Owen and the most recent winner, Lukas Podolski.

“For me personally, it’s terrific confirmation of the work I’ve put in over the last year. I’m delighted my great run has continued here, and I’ve really enjoyed it too. The honour will be with me for all time, and it’s a wonderful memento too.”

Forlan finished top of a Fifa shortlist for his award following a vote by international media.

The former Manchester United player polled 23.4% of the vote, narrowly beating Dutch playmaker Sneijder – second with 21.8% – while Villa was third.

“This is award which I won thanks to my team-mates,” wrote Forlan on his Twitter account, a post accompanied by a photograph where the striker is standing with other players.

“It was taken before they threw me in the swimming pool,” he explained.

Uruguay’s performance at the World Cup was the country’s best in 40 years.

Forlan succeeds Frenchman Zinedine Zidane, who was named top player of the 2006 World Cup despite his infamous red card in the final defeat to Italy.

It rounded off a fine year for Forlan, who also won the Europa League with Atletico Madrid last season, with the striker scoring both goals in a 2-1 extra-time victory over Fulham.

“It’s as great as it is unexpected,” Forlan told FIFA.com.

“I never even imagined something like this, nor did I have my sights set on it.

“As I’m a striker, I perhaps could have seen myself chasing the Golden Shoe, and in fact I came close. That would have been more normal. But to go from that to winning the prize for the best player…

“I’m enjoying it and I’m delighted, but I’m very aware that it’s the result of the spectacular tournament the team has had. It’s another reward for this positive period for Uruguayan football.”

Meanwhile, Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas – who twice denied Arjen Robben of the Netherlands with the score at 0-0 in the World Cup final – won the Golden Glove award for being the best keeper at the tournament.

Casillas conceded only two goals in seven matches.

Andres Iniesta

July 11, 2010

Andres Iniesta dedicated his winning goal in the World Cup final to former Espanyol defender Dani Jarque, who died after suffering a heart attack in August 2009.

Iniesta scored in extra-time in Johannesburg’s Soccer City to give Spain a 1-0 victory over Netherlands and their first ever World Cup title. The triumph under Vicente del Bosque comes just two years after their victory at Euro 2008.

When Iniesta volleyed the ball past Maarten Stekelenburg he ripped off his kit to reveal a vest reading “Dani Jarque is always with us.” Iniesta explained that he did so to honour the memory of his deceased friend.

“The manner in which it happened, we gave everything,” Iniesta said. “To win the World Cup there are no words to describe it.

“This is for Dani Jarque, for my family, for all of the people. It is the result of hard work over a long time and some difficult moments.

“I can’t quite believe this yet. I had the opportunity to score that goal that was so important for my team, and it’s incredible. I’ve made a small contribution in a very tough game, a very rough game – there were all sorts of things happening on the pitch.

“Spain deserved to win this World Cup. It’s something we have to remember and enjoy, and should feel very proud of everyone in this squad. The manner in which it happened, we gave everything. To win the World Cup – there are no words to describe it.”

Spain’s World Cup triumph was foretold by Paul the psychic octopus, the resident of Sea Life Oberhausen who has famously correctly predicted all of Germany’s results at the World Cup finals.

When presented with two Perspex boxes, both containing mussels, he opened the one adorned with the flag of Spain rather than Netherlands on Friday.

Iniesta said: “As for the octopus, what can I say? We won. The octopus will be very popular in Spain.”

Cesc Fabregas came on as a substitute for Spain and set up Iniesta for his winning goal. The Arsenal midfielder said: “This is an historic moment. Many thanks to everyone [in the team], you are the best, I thank you.”

World Cup 2010 Final, Spain Vs. Netherlands: Andres Iniesta 116th Minute Goal Gives Spain 1-0 Lead

Andres Iniesta has scored four minutes from the end of extra time, scoring with his right-footed shot from 14 yards out to given Spain a 1-0 lead to put the Spaniards on the verge of their first World Cup.

The Dutch, attempting to play Iniesta offside, allowed a ball to be looped over the back line, giving Iniesta time to collect the pass and beat Maarten Stekelenburg toward the Dutch goalie’s far post.

Dutch defenders protested heavily that Iniesta was offside, earning Joris Mathijsen the Netherlands’ ninth booking of the final.  Replays showed Iniesta was onside when the pass was played.

Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez had since picked-up yellow cards for Spain.

The match reamins 1-0, now in the 122nd minute.

Ages 0 to 27 are ruled by the sum of the first three letters of the name and the month of birth.

Andrés Iniesta        May 11th, 1984

1 (A is the 1st letter of the alphabet) + 14 (n is the 14th letter of the alphabet) + 4 (d is the 4th letter of the alphabet) + 5 (May) = 24

So from ages zero to twenty-seven he has the numbers 5 (May), 19 (the sum of the first three letters of the name), and 24 (5+19=24) going on.

5 = New experiences.

19 = Proud of his hard earned success.

So when his number (19 (his 19 personal year (May 11th, 2010 to May 10th, 2011))) comes up, that’s when he gets to live/experience what he is here to live/experience.  So this is HIS year!!!

24 = Dominating.  Taking charge.  In charge.

World Cup final: pitch invader punched by security guard after trying to put hat on trophy
8:54PM BST 11 Jul 2010

As Spain and the Netherlands prepared for their clash, the unidentified man leapt onto the pitch and ran towards the halfway line, where the trophy was placed on a plinth.

It appeared as if the pitch invader was attempting to place an orange and black beanie hat on top of the gold cup.

However, he was accosted within inches of the trophy by a security guard wearing a black suit, who knocked him to the ground with a blow to his face.

The grinning man, wearing black jeans, white trainers and a black T-shirt was then carried out of the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg by seven security guards.

South African police said the man was “asking for serious trouble” by attempting the stunt as the 94,000-strong crowd looked on in disbelief.

He has been arrested and is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Colonel Vishnu Naidoo, a police spokesman, said: “This guy was asking for serious trouble. We take a very dim view of something like this.

“Officers had him under control within seconds and he will be in court at the earliest opportunity. He will be up before a World Cup magistrate on two charges.

“The first count will be trespass and the second will be under the Counter Measures Act which is about being caught somewhere you are not meant to be.”

He added that the pitch invader, whose name and nationality were being investigated, was likely to appear at Randburg Magistrates’ Court, a fast-track court dedicated to dealing with incidents of disorder surrounding the tournament.

The incident is the second time in a week that a fan has managed to evade security staff and make it onto the field.

Spain’s semi-final against Germany was briefly halted on Wednesday when a supporter charged onto the pitch four minutes after kick off.

Mario Ferri, an Italian football fan, was fined 8,000 rand (£700) and ordered to leave the country after appearing in court on Thursday.

He claimed he carried out the stunt to promote world peace.
