Elizabeth Olsen Liberal Arts Premiere - P 2012

8:30 AM PDT             9/11/2012

As the younger sibling of Mary-Kate and Ashley, Elizabeth Olsen has ventured into territory that might cause even the most jaded fashionista to faint upon sight: the tiny twin moguls’ closets, no doubt stocked with designer labels and one-of-a-kind vintage.

“I steal a lot of their clothes. It’s awesome. Ones that fit. They’re very little,” the 23-year-old actress and It Girl told THR on Monday at the New York premiere of her latest film, Liberal Arts.

Olsen’s cool-girl, casually glamorous style often mimics that of her sisters. But she confessed, “I’m not as clever as they are. I just kind of steal things from what they already do.”

With New York Fashion Week in full swing, the former Full House stars-turned-fashion darlings presented the latest looks from The Row, their upscale label, earlier Monday at the posh Carlyle Hotel near Central Park.

“I’ve never been to a classier event in my life! I loved every moment of it — at the Carlyle (with) the tea and the pastries, and the clothes were insanely gorgeous,” said Olsen, looking ladylike in a sand-colored party dress with a full skirt. “It was ridiculous. Mary-Kate was, like, on my lap and we were watching it and it was really beautiful.”

Olsen, meanwhile, is fast becoming as famous as her siblings. Her breakout role as a cult escapee in 2011’s Martha Marcy May Marlene won wide acclaim, leading to parts in the upcoming films Very Good Girls (opposite Dakota Fanning) and Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake.

(The latter movie begins production next month, and Olsen teased: “It’s gonna please fans and people who’ve never heard of it.” As for Lee, “I find him to be the most kind, generous, funny person. I love being around him.”)

In Liberal Arts, which opens Friday, Olsen portrays Zibby, a 19-year-old Midwestern college student who falls for a 35-year-old admissions counselor (Josh Radnor) from New York when he comes to campus to visit a former professor (Richard Jenkins). Radnor, perhaps best known as Ted Mosby on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, also wrote and directed the film, and cast Olsen soon after the two convened for a 90-minute read-through of the script.

“I’m very happy and I feel fortunate to be able to have a choice of what I do next,” she observed. “And I know it’s not going to last forever so I’m just like holding on to it when it’s happening now and for hopefully years to come. Good things never last forever though.”

Elizabeth Olsen, the younger sister of the Olsen twins, is set to star in the indie drama “Martha Marcy May Marlene.”

She stars as a young woman who is living with her older sister after escaping a cult. Also among the cast are Hugh Dancy, Sarah Paulson and Brady Corbet. Sean Durkin wrote and will direct the BorderLine Films project.

Olsen, 21, recently wrapped shooting “Peace, Love & Misunderstanding,” whose cast also includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Catherine Keener, Chase Crawford and Jane Fonda. As a tyke, she could be seen in a series of older sisters’ Mary-Kate and Ashley’s lucrative direct-to-DVD releases.

The casting development was first reported on the Wrap.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s last marquee movie roles were in 2004’s “New York Minute,” when they were 18 years old, but another Olsen will be arriving on the big screen soon. The twins’ younger sister Elizabeth Olsen has been cast in an independent drama called “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” according to The Wrap.

The film will also star John Hawkes (an Oscar contender for his work in the acclaimed “Winter’s Bone”), Sarah Paulson and Hugh Dancy. Director Sean Durkin has already started production in upstate New York on the movie, which follows the story of a young woman who escapes from a cult (run by Hawkes) and moves in with her older sister.

21-year-old Elizabeth broke into acting when she was just a toddler alongside her famous big sisters. From 1993 to 1996, when she was kindergarten-age, she appeared in a series of “The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley” films including “The Case of the Christmas Caper” and “The Case of the U.S. Space Camp Mission.” In 2005, she popped up in Natasha Bedingfield’s video for “I Bruise Easily,” and two years later, she starred in the band Carlotta’s music video for “The Queen.” Last year, she made a big impression on one of the U.K.’s biggest style magazines and was named Elle U.K.’s “New Fashion Crush.”

The younger Olsen sister is also currently filming “Peace, Love & Misunderstanding,” a fish-out-of-water story about a buttoned-up lawyer who takes her teens to meet their groovy grandmother in Woodstock. Jane Fonda, Catherine Keener, and Chace Crawford also star in the Bruce Beresford-directed film. Fonda blogged about the movie in July, gushing about her young co-star, who will play one of her grandchildren: “Lizzie Olsen … lives in NY and does theatre, although I think when her face is seen on the screen in this movie it’ll be hard for her to not do more films.”

Mary-Kate and Ashley also have an older brother, Trent – who also appeared in a handful of “The Adventure” films – and a pair of half-siblings, Taylor and Jake. While Ashley Olsen doesn’t appear to have any upcoming acting projects on the horizon, Mary-Kate is set to star in Daniel Barnz’s “Beastly” as well as Laurie Collyer’s “Story of a Girl” alongside Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick.
