Peter Lenz is dead at 13, Lenz’s death confirmed by a local Coroner’s office moments ago. Peter Lenz died during a Indianapolis Motor Speedway crash today with Xavier Zayat.

Initial reports of Lenz’s injuries were said to be “traumatic”. Lenz fell from his bike. The crash occurred during a warm up for Sunday’s MD250H. Reports at the scene initially indicate that Lenz may have fallen from his bike and then was driven over by Zayat. Emergency response personnel were on scene and immediately tried to stabilize Lenz into a neck brace. Witnesses suggest that Lenz did not pass until after his transport to Methodist Hospital.

Lenz was from Vancouver. Online reports say Lenz is a six year veteran with nine national titles and nine regional wins. Ultimate Motorcycling reported on August 26 that Lenz was of that date the SGPRU Moriwaki MD250H powered by Honda national championship points leader. Lenz had said this month “I have been working all year to win the national championship. The races are going to be good ones. I can’t wait to get out there and race at the Brickyard.” The report cites Ed Sorbo as Lenz’s crew chief at Indy.

Multiple competitors are said to have fallen since practiced started Friday including Valentino Rossi.
