Teenager Chelsea Ives – a former Waltham Forest youth ambassador – has been remanded in custody after appearing in court on riot charges.
The young athlete, who was reported to police by her mother after she suspected she had taken part in the London riots, will appear again at Highbury Magistrates Court on September 7, when she will be committed to Crown Court.
The 18-year-old denies attacking a police car, two counts of burglary and violent disorder.
Speaking to Sky News last week, her mother Adrienne said: “I love my daughter and any parent who loves their child should find the courage to do what we have done.
Another youth alleged to have been involved in the violence, 18-year-old Daniel Sartain Clark, has also been remanded in custody following a court appearance and will appear again on September 6.
His family faces evictions from their Wandsworth council home if he is convicted.
His mother, Maite De La Calva, 43, was served with an eviction notice on Friday by the council after her son was charged with burglary and violent disorder.
The family, which also includes an eight-year-old girl, is believed to be the first council tenants in the country to face losing their home over the rioting and looting in England.
They have received the backing of local Labour councillor Tony Belton, who wrote an online piece saying he was supporting her cause.
He said: “Why should an eight-year-old kid suffer for that?
“Supposing he did do what he is accused of doing, he should pay the price for that. Not someone else.”
Mr Sartain Clark denies all the charges against him, which relate to the violence at Clapham Junction.
