A Montana newlywed may be facing life in prison now that she has been charged her husband’s murder after she admitted to pushing him off a cliff at a national park just over a week after their wedding.

Jordan Linn Graham, 22, told FBI agents that she and her husband of eight days, 25-year-old Cody Lee Johnson, were arguing on July 7 while walking in Glacier National Park near their home in Kalispell, Mont. when he grabbed her arm, according to KTFM.

“She could have just walked away, but due to her anger, she pushed Johnson with both hands in the back and as a results, he fell face first off the cliff,” the affidavit states she told investigators.

Charging documents in the case reveal that Graham told a friend that she was having second thoughts about the marriage, and that she said that she wanted to talk about her issues with Johnson the night he died.

Graham also sent a message to her friend saying, “”But dead serious. If you don’t hear from me at all again tonight, something happened,” KTFM reported.

Johnson was reported missing on Monday, July 8 after he failed to show up at work.

Police searching for Johnson’s body had to use a helicopter to retrieve his body from the steep cliffs below the park’s Loop Trail, where he was pushed. His body was recovered on July 12.

Graham appeared in federal court in Missoula, Mont. on Monday on a charge of second degree murder. Her attorney, public defender Andrew Nelson, declined comment, according to the Associated Press.

Nine-year-old best friends Antonia Lee Candelaria and Emily Conatzer died hand-in-hand as their school was torn apart around them it has emerged today.

In an exclusive interview with MailOnline nine-year-old Antonia’s mother, Brandie Candelaria told of the comfort both families draw from knowing their children were together, holding each other’s hands, when the unthinkable happened.

Brandie wept as she recalled: ‘I went to see my little girl yesterday at the Chief Medical Examiner’s office.

‘There were little marks, imprints and tiny scratches on her forearm like someone had been holding onto her, clinging to her.

‘We take some comfort in thinking that she and Emily were holding onto each other and not alone.’

The little girls were, Ms Candelaria said ‘inseparable in life.’

They had long been best friends at Plaza Towers Elementary where both were in the third grade.

When the Conatzers moved into the Candelaria’s neighborhood last year they were, Ms Candelaria said ‘just never apart.’

Now the families who were once bonded simply by their daughters’ friendship are united in the bitter blessing of having each found and lost a child in the storm that leveled a swathe of Moore, Oklahoma.

Antonia was the middle child of three – her little sister, Lillian, is four months old and her older, Trinity, is 10.

Trinity was pulled from the rubbled of Plaza Towers by her father, Jimmy Rosson, who helped save several children in his hunt for his girls.

Emily Conatzer was one of two girls – her little sister, Luci, was also rescued and returned to her parents, ‘a little bit banged up but otherwise fine.’

Ms Candelaria said: ‘I don’t remember exactly how it happened. I was at home with my youngest and we stayed together when the Tornado hit.

‘As soon as it was over me and Jimmy and the baby got out of our house and looked across to the Conatzers.

‘Her husband was working on getting them out – they were okay but they were trapped a while.’

The parents were, Ms Candelaria said, ‘just frantic’ to get to the school where both had two daughters.

The first to be found was the Conatzer’s youngest, then Trinity Candelaria.

Ms Candelaria said: ‘Jimmy brought Trinity back to me and wanted to go and carry on searching for Antonia but when he went back they stopped them digging.

‘They stayed looking as long as they could but they couldn’t get to them – they couldn’t get to my little ladybug or Emily.’

Her voice cracking, wrung out with grief, Ms Candelaria said: ‘That’s what she was – my little Ladybug.

‘My other girls are my Lovebugs. She’d just recently become a big sister and she loved it, she loved spoiling her little baby sister.

‘She had such a beautiful innocence about her, such a whole different way of looking at things. You’d think ‘How in the world did she come up with that?’ Then you’d think about it and it would make a kind of sense.’

Ms Candelaria, herself a state employee, praised the teachers who helped rescue her eldest child.

Questions have been asked as to why Plaza Towers Elementary and Moore Elementary, both razed by the storm, did not have underground bunkers or safe spaces built into the fabric of the schoolhouses. Such measures could have been the difference between life and death for those trapped within.

Ms Candelaria said: ‘There’s a lot of questions as to why things happened the way they happened but now isn’t the time for pointing fingers or laying blame.

‘We have to do what we can for our little girls. There are so many stories we have to share with each other, so many memories or our beautiful ladybug.

‘Her service is tomorrow and all the prayers and memories people have shared means so much.’

As does the thought that, as the storm raged, her little girl was not entirely alone.

Ms Candelaria said: ‘I couldn’t be there with her but she was with her best friend and now she’s still with her best friend and knowing that helps a bit.’

Kristen Strickland Conatzer shared her grief for little Emily online.

Writing on Facebook yesterday she said: ‘Today was the day that no parent wants to encounter, the words you never want to hear as a parent.

‘Our baby didn’t make it. I am overwhelmed by the support that is pouring in from all of my friends, family and Facebook family. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

‘I hope I wake up and she is jumping around on me giggling…but i know that she is in heaven smiling down. My baby I know you are with the unicorns tonight. Sleep well my angel.’

Others rushed to pay tribute to the two little girls and spoke about their lovely enduring friendship.

Antonia’s uncle Paul Rosson wrote yesterday: ‘Thanks everyone for your prayers and thoughts. We are doing the best we can considering. They found her this morning holding her best friends hand. They went to heaven together so they didn’t have to be alone.’

All seven children who died at the school have now been identified and all came from the same third grade class. Taking shelter in the basement it is believed many drowned in water from leaking pipes.

The chief of the Moore Fire Department officially called off the search at the site of the school today.

They combed the debris three times and discovered no further victims beyond the seven discovered earlier in the week.

THE parents of a baby labelled “ugly” and ridiculed on national television will today seek legal action after Channel 9 refused to apologise.

Michael and Melanie Richmond, from Avalon on Sydney’s northern beaches, said they were “still in shock and dumbfounded” after a Facebook image of their firstborn daughter Bella was broadcast on Thursday’s episode of The Footy Show without permission.

One of the panellists labelled the photograph of 18-month-old Bella “ugly” before commenting she looked like rugby league great and Channel 9 commentator Peter Sterling.

Mr Richmond said he and his wife would be consulting with lawyers today.

“We are going to seek legal advice because they (Channel 9) still haven’t gotten back to us,” he said yesterday.

“We were going to let it go but we can’t. Someone has put our baby on TV. We want to get some feedback on what our legal options are now.”

Mr Richmond said the image of his daughter, taken last year, was posted on his wife’s Facebook account.

“I understand how Facebook works and that when you share photos they become public and there’s nothing you can do,” he said.

“The fact is that somewhere, somehow, a producer has gotten a photo of my daughter and made the decision to put it on television. I know it’s supposed to be tongue in cheek but she’s just a baby. It’s not cool.”

The Footy Show

This screen shot from The Footy Show was inally sent to the Richmonds by Michael’s sister after having seen it on the show.

A fan of the show in the past, Mr Richmond said he and his wife would be switching off.

A Channel 9 spokeswoman said the network would not be making any comment when approached again yesterday.

The Sunday Telegraph story sparked a heated debate on The Daily Telegraph’s website yesterday, with many backing the Richmond family and branding the panellists “meatheads”.

A Saudi Arabian woman was among 64 people who successfully scaled Mount Everest on Saturday from Nepal’s side of the mountain, according to mountaineering officials.

An official with Nepal’s Mountaineering Department, Tilak Padney, said that 35 foreigners accompanied by 29 Nepalese Sherpa guides reached the 29,035-foot peak on Saturday morning after climbing all night from the highest camp on South Col, the pass between Everest and a neighboring mountain.

All the climbers were reported to be safe.

The Saudi climber, Raha Moharrak, is the first Saudi woman to scale the world’s highest peak. She is 25, and now lives in Dubai, according to the BBC.

Everest can be climbed from either Nepal or Tibet.

May is the most popular month for Everest climbs because weather tends to be more favorable then.

Mother’s Day was founded in 1907 by a West Virginia woman as a tribute to her own mother. In her 40s, Anna Marie Jarvis, a college graduate, quit her job and incorporated herself as the Mother’s Day International Association.

Jarvis was so passionate about her vision that she succeeded within 6 years in persuading the governors of nearly every state in the union to embrace Mother’s Day. By 1914, she had won over the U.S. Congress. That year President Woodrow Wilson signed a Congressional resolution declaring the second Sunday in May the nation’s day to honor mothers (for their role in the family, however, not the public sphere).

Rampant commercialization of Mother’s Day has kept it alive for a century, but the strong-willed Jarvis, ironically, detested any profiting from the holiday. She believed offspring should honor mothers with handmade gifts and letters, rather than with printed greeting cards and floral arrangements. So, after succeeding in seeing Mother’s Day widely adopted, Jarvis spent the rest of her life and funds fighting those who tried to profit from it, it has been widely reported. Her battles included filing a lawsuit against New York’s governor and publicly criticizing Eleanor Roosevelt for work with a Mother’s Day committee.

Jarvis set about fulfilling her vision with the passion of a typical entrepreneur. With funding from family—including from the estate of her brother, the founder of a taxi company—she trademarked the phrase “Mother’s Day” and pursued a plan to see the holiday adopted worldwide, according to her 1948 New York Times obituary. Unfortunately, like many entrepreneurs, it seems Jarvis was better at the execution of her vision than at managing the day-to-day business. Though at one point she had the resources to purchase a building solely for housing her prolific correspondences, the Times reported upon her death that her finances had become “almost a hopeless muddle.” Other biographies say she died in poverty.

One final irony of Jarvis’s life, according to her Wikipedia biography: “Anna Marie Jarvis never married and had no children.” Perhaps she was too busy running her organization.

Eight years after he testified in the Michael Jackson molestation trial that the pop star never touched him, an Australian choreographer has filed a claim against the singer’s estate alleging “childhood sexual abuse.”

Attorneys for Wade Robson, who knew Jackson and stayed at the singer’s Neverland Ranch as a teenager, has asked a Los Angeles judge to allow him to make a late claim as creditor in Jackson’s estate.

Most of the specifics are under seal, but the documents filed May 1 and publicly available state Robson’s claim to monies comes from “childhood sexual abuse.” The documents cite sealed evidence from a mental health practitioner.

Jackson died four years ago at age 50, becoming the the only person in Los Angeles County not in the medical field to die of propofol intoxication in their home in the last 14 years.

Since his death, his estate’s net worth has soared as allegations of molestation have faded.

In 2005, a highly publicized trial concluded with Jackson being found not guilty of multiple counts of abusing a 13-year-old cancer survivor in 2003.

During that trial, a housekeeper testified she saw Jackson showering with a boy she believed to be Robson, who as an adult went on to do choreography for Britney Spears.

Robson testified under oath that while he stayed at the Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara County numerous times and slept in Jackson’s bed, he was never molested.

“Absolutely not,” he replied when questioned by Jackson attorney Thomas A. Mesereau Jr. whether he had ever been molested.

Robson denied showering with Jackson and said he and the singer played together like children.

As for allegations that Jackson molested him, Robson said, “I think it’s ridiculous.”

When Robson took the witness stand for Jackson’s defense, the singer gave him the thumbs up.

An Arizona jury Wednesday found Jodi Arias guilty of first-degree murder for killing Travis Alexander in June 2008. The conviction means Arias could face the death penalty. In the next phase of the case, prosecutors will have a chance to present additional evidence and jurors will decide whether Alexander’s death was caused in a cruel manner.

[Original story, posted at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday]

Jury reaches verdict in Jodi Arias trial

After months of twists and turns in a dramatic trial rife with sex, lies and digital images, jurors in Arizona have decided the fate of Jodi Arias.

A verdict was reached Wednesday in the case that has drawn worldwide attention and followers lining up daily for courtroom seats. The verdict is expected to be announced at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Since Friday, jurors have been deliberating evidence surrounding this key question: Did Arias kill ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in self-defense? Or did she commit murder?

Alexander was stabbed repeatedly, shot and nearly decapitated five years ago. Arias says she killed him in self-defense after he attacked her, but the grisly slaying has caused even some anti-domestic violence advocates to doubt her case.

The jury, which has been in court since January 2, heard closing arguments on Friday. Jurors deliberated for 15 hours and five minutes.

As they took a lunch break after revealing they had reached a verdict Wednesday, some jurors were seen smiling and breathing sighs of relief. One juror returning from lunch wiped her eyes.

A massive crowd swarmed around the Maricopa County Courthouse Wednesday afternoon as word spread that a verdict had been reached. Some onlookers said they had been following the trial for months.

“We are here every day to support Travis’ family 100%,” said Kathy Brown, who got a cane she uses autographed by prosecutor Juan Martinez. “It’s emotional, because I really feel in my heart that there’s going to be a first-degree murder conviction.”

If the jury convicts Arias of first-degree murder, jurors then will have to decide whether she lives or dies.

The trial began as both sides dramatically presented their arguments with details about Arias’ love affair with Alexander.

“She rewarded that love from Travis Alexander by sticking a knife in his chest,” Martinez said in his opening statement. “And you know he was a good man, according to her. And with regard to being a good man, well, she slit his throat as a reward for being a good man. And in terms of these blessings, well, she knocked the blessings out of him by putting a bullet in his head.”

But defense attorney Jennifer Willmott countered: “Jodi Arias killed Travis Alexander. There is no question about it. The million-dollar question is what would have forced her to do it?”

Martinez accused Arias of playing the victim. He alleged she staged the crime scene to make it look like self-defense.

He also accused her of actively seeking to profit from her media attention.

Willmott said Arias was the victim of a controlling, psychologically abusive relationship, and Alexander considered Arias “his dirty little secret.”

The prosecution pushed for a first-degree murder conviction. If convicted on this charge, Arias would face a mini-trial of sorts to determine whether she killed Alexander cruelly and knew he would suffer.

A first-degree murder conviction also could result in Arias’ execution unless a jury grants her leniency, in which case she would get life in prison and may not be eligible for parole for at least 25 years.

If the prosecution can’t prove premeditation, as is required for a first-degree murder charge, Arias could still be convicted of second-degree murder, commanding 10 to 22 years in prison. The jury can also decide that Arias killed Alexander recklessly or that he attacked her. She’d then be convicted of manslaughter.

Lastly, the jury could find her not guilty or determine that she acted in self-defense and that her actions were reasonable.

Followers of the trial have driven for hours to watch the courtroom drama in person. Spectators began lining up at 1 a.m. Friday — more than six hours before the courthouse opened — to get a seat, according to CNN affiliate KPHO.

Until April 25, the public was given access on a first-come, first-served basis, but the judge changed it to a lottery system for closing arguments, the station reported.

Prosecutors in Arizona will begin arguing today that 32-year-old Jodi Arias should die for the especially brutal murder of her one-time boyfriend, Travis Alexander, who was found dead in his shower over four years ago.

Investigators say Arias stabbed Alexander 27 times, slit his throat and shot him in the head at his Mesa, Ariz., home in June of 2008. Arias, who has been locked up since her arrest, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

“I didn’t hurt Travis. I would never hurt Travis,” Arias said in a jailhouse interview after she was arrested in July 2008. “I would be shaking in my boots right now if I had to answer to God for such a heinous crime.”

Arias and Alexander met at a work conference six years ago. Arias says they fell in love, traveled the country together, and to strengthen her ties to the devout Mormon, she even converted to his religion. But Alexander’s friends say after dating a few months he tried to break it off.

“There’s nothing about her that I see in marriage material — or wife material,” Alexander said, according to his friend, Dave Hall. “But it’s hard to say no to a woman that sneaks into your house, crawls in your bed and tries to, you know, seduce you.”

Alexander’s family and friends say Arias was stalking him in the months before the murder — something she denies.

At first she also denied being at his house in the night of the murder. Then police found a camera in Alexander’s washing machine containing pictures of the two having sex that day. There were also pictures of Alexander after he was killed.

Faced with that evidence, Arias then told the television show “Inside Edition” that she was there, but didn’t kill Alexander.

“I witnessed Travis being attacked by two other individuals,” she said on “Inside Edition.” “Who were they? I don’t know. I couldn’t pick them up in a police lineup.”

Now the accused killer is admitting to the court that she did kill Alexander, but that it was in self-defense. She claims he was sexually and physically abusive throughout their relationship.

Steven Alexander, Travis Alexander’s brother, said that he can see Arias’ true colors.

“It makes me sick because I know her true side,” he told ABC News. “And I ask people to please not buy into this sweet innocent personality that she puts on.”

Arias told “Inside Edition” that she believes she will walk away from the trial a free woman.

“No jury is going to convict me,” she said. “Why not? Because I’m innocent. You can mark my words on that. No jury will convict me.”
