Donovan McNabb Traded to Redskins for the Promise of Kevin Kolb

Donovan McNabb has been traded to the Washington Redskins according to Trey Wingo of ESPN. McNabb was 92-49-1 in his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, the 4th-highest win percentage among active quarterbacks with at least 75 starts. McNabb was acquired for the Redskins 37th draft pick in this year’s draft and either a 3rd or 4th-round pick in 2011.

Of McNabb, Reid gave this eulogy for his one-time franchise quarterback:

Donovan McNabb represented everything a football player could be during his 11 seasons in Philadelphia…. He carried this organization to new heights and set a high standard of excellence both on and off the field.

When questions turned to Kevin Kolb who is projected to be the Eagles starter in the 2010-2011 season, Reid was circumspect. And when pressed as to why he would jettison McNabb for a players who started all of two games and played in an offense not at all representative of what Reid like to to when his team has the ball, Reid said:

No matter how you look at this [Kevin Kolb] is a young and upcoming player.

While Reid was watching Kolb during practices every week with the second team, he seemed to base the decision to go with Kolb on two starts in the 2009-2010 season.
