Eric Hassli prepares to strike.

June 12, 2011, 9:40 pm

Vancouver and Seattle combined to score three goals in four minutes late in their 2-2 tie on Saturday night, but the Whitecaps’ Eric Hassli got the gold star.

When a player describes a goal as “I just closed my eyes and shot,” you know he’s probably done something special. Hassli’s 85th-minute goal was his second of the night, and came after Seattle had scored in the 81st and 84th minutes to stun the visiting Whitecaps and take a 2-1 lead.

“I could give him that shot probably another 99 times and I don’t know if he’s going to score it,” Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller said. “But he did today, and sometimes you just have to shake someone’s hand and just say that’s a hell of a goal.”
