Junior dos Santos must have impressed the oddsmakers last night with his dominant win over Shane Carwin, as he has been given the line over champion Cain Velasquezin their impending match up.

@FightOdds released an early betting line for Velasquez vs. dos Santos — which was cemented by dos Santos’ unanimous decision victory over Shane Carwin last night in the main event of UFC 131— and, at -125 to Velasquez’s -105, “Cigano” has been given the edge.

Dos Santos put on a masterful performance against the heavy-handed Carwin, dropping the 36-year-old in the first round and rearranging his face with powerful shots while he was down on one knee. Carwin showed incredible heart in hanging tough (and Herb Dean masterful refereeing in allowing the bout to continue) throughout that first-frame onslaught, but was taken to task by dos Santos over the next two rounds, getting completely outclassed on the feet and outworked the few times that they engaged in grappling exchanges.

The performance was enough for the oddsmakers to peg dos Santos as a slight favorite this far out from his fight against Velasquez — which is currently unscheduled and the booking of which will depend on the champ’s ongoing recovery from shoulder surgery.

Velasquez defeated Brock Lesnarlast October via first round TKO in order to capture the belt, but has been out of action since in order to mend a shoulder injury he suffered in winning the championship.

Comparing their records, dos Santos sports a career mark of 13-1 with eight victories by KO/TKO, three by submission and two by decision, while Velasquez stands at 9-0, also with eight wins by KO/TKO and one by decision.

It is finally happening. Junior Dos Santos is going to clash with Cain Velasquez for the UFC
heavyweight championship of the world.

Junior Dos Santos is 7-0 in the UFC heavyweight division, and so is the
champion, Cain Velasquez.

It was a collision that seemed inevitable, and now we will get to see it
later this year.

Neither man has the kind of name recognition among casual fans like Brock Lesnar, Georges St.
Pierre or Chuck Liddell in his heyday, but make no mistake about it, this is a
superfight folks.

If you are already hyped up for this fight, then congratulations, you are an
awesome hardcore fan.
