It is the turn of Kerala to honour one of the finest actors of Indian cinema – Kamal Haasan.

This year’s Onam week celebrations organised by the Department of Tourism will kick off with a function honouring Kamal Haasan on his completing 50 years in cinema.

Besides the State Government, various associations connected with the Malayalam film industry too will felicitate him at the inauguration of the Onam Week celebrations to be held at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium on August 22.

A meeting to this effect was held on Thursday. Besides the formal function, the evening will feature cultural programmes, all celebrating Kamal Haasan’s multi-lingual cinematic versatility and the characters he played in films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

The actor, who has won 28 trophies for the best actor, including four National Awards, will be saluted by a medley of programmes, directed by film-maker T K Rajeev Kumar.

The meeting held on Thursday was attended by the Tourism Director, Tourism Secretary, V Sivankutty MLA, TK Rajeev Kumar and DTPC officials. There was another meeting attended by representatives of Film Exhibitors’ Association, Film Exhibitors’ Federation, Producers’ Association, FEFKA, Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce, South Indian Film Chamber and others.

These associations extended their full support to the event and evinced interest in honouring the actor. A meeting with representatives of AMMA has also been scheduled.

The Tourism Department officials are excited about the fact that the participation of maximum actors would be there against the backdrop of the support offered by all the associations.

Meanwhile, details about the two-hour cultural programme are being worked out.

The event is expected to have six segments, starting with a salutation. A symphony composed by musician Balabhaskar (which will have lyrics by Vairamuthu), dance presentation by Shobhana, a skit dedicated to the cinematic journey of Kamal Hassan, a mega musical show to be led by SP Balasubramaniam and a percussion ensemble will be part of the event.

It is learnt that the programme would have the presence of veteran film-makers like K Sethumadhavan and K Balachander. If sources are to be believed, the State Government is trying its best to rope in some big names of the South Indian film industry, including Rajnikanth and Sridevi, in addition to the top names in the Malayalam film industry.

An attraction will be that after each segment, Kamal Haasan will be presented with an audio CD. Which means, the particular item will not be presented anywhere else. from:  http://expressbuzz.com/entertainment/news/kerala-to-honour-kamal-haasan/195776.html
