Various organisations related to Malayalam film industry had extended support to the programme to honour the actor during the inauguration of the ‘Onam’ (Malyalee’s most celebrated festival) week celebrations on August 22, official
sources here said.
A two-hour cultural programme featuring versatality of the actor who had done roles in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi in his five-decade long career would be held as part of the event.
The actor, who had won four national awards and several other honours during his career, would be saluted by a host of programmes to be directed by noted Malayalam film-maker T K Rajeev Kumar.
A meeting attended by representatives of Film Exhibitors Association, Film Exhibitors Federation, State Film Producers Association, Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce held here yesterday had offered support to the event, the sources said.
Eminent directors K S Sethumadhavan in whose film ‘Kannum Karalum’ he made his debut in Malayalam and Tamil director K Balachander and other top film-makers associated with the actor were expected to attend the programme, the sources said.
This year’s Onam week celebrations organised by the Department of Tourism will kick off with a function honouring Kamal Haasan on his completing 50 years in cinema.
Besides the State Government, various associations connected with the Malayalam film industry too will felicitate him at the inauguration of the Onam Week celebrations to be held at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium on August 22.
A meeting to this effect was held on Thursday. Besides the formal function, the evening will feature cultural programmes, all celebrating Kamal Haasan’s multi-lingual cinematic versatility and the characters he played in films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

Meanwhile, details about the two-hour cultural programme are being worked out.
The event is expected to have six segments, starting with a salutation. A symphony composed by musician Balabhaskar (which will have lyrics by Vairamuthu), dance presentation by Shobhana, a skit dedicated to the cinematic journey of Kamal Hassan, a mega musical show to be led by SP Balasubramaniam and a percussion ensemble will be part of the event.
It is learnt that the programme would have the presence of veteran film-makers like K Sethumadhavan and K Balachander. If sources are to be believed, the State Government is trying its best to rope in some big names of the South Indian film industry, including Rajnikanth and Sridevi, in addition to the top names in the Malayalam film industry.
An attraction will be that after each segment, Kamal Haasan will be presented with an audio CD. Which means, the particular item will not be presented anywhere else. from: http://expressbuzz.com/entertainment/news/kerala-to-honour-kamal-haasan/195776.html
