A teenager accused of stabbing and beating his ex-girlfriend to death and then setting her house on fire has been arrested.
Jarod Lane, 19, who was named as a person of interest in the murder of Jessica Scholl, 17, was arrested by officers in Oklahoma today.
Scholl was found dead in her Renton, Washington, home last Friday after a passer-by reported seeing smoke coming from the second floor of her two-story home just before 8 am.
Deputy Fire Chief Erik Wallgren said firefighters made the shocking discovery after extinguishing a fire which was mainly concentrated to a couch.
Attempts to revive the Lindbergh High School student failed.
‘I saw them working on the body trying to resuscitate, and then the police said there were stab wounds involved. That’s when things got scary,’ a neighbour told KING 5.
Scholl’s friend, Shayna Eduardo, told KIRO 7 that Scholl had ended her long-term relationship with Lane a few days before she died.
‘He got too depressed, and I don’t know if he was trying to talk to her or anything but I guess that’s why. True love causes you to do crazy stuff I guess,’ she said.
Lane discussed his love for Scholl on his Facebook page. ‘Ive fallen for a girl, her name is jessica scholl and i wouldnt want it any other way for the rest of my life i wanna be with her, also love soccer and working :P’, he posted.

Anthony Ruth said his son, Andre, was the last person to receive a text from Scholl.
‘They were texting back and forth and she was saying that: “He’s here, I’ll open the door, just yell at him.” He tried texting her back like 15, 20 minutes later – didn’t hear from her.’
Hundreds gathered yesterday for a candlelit vigil to remember the slain teen.
Her family issued the following statement and asked for privacy during the difficult time: ‘On behalf of Jessica Scholl’s entire family, we want to thank everyone for their outpouring of support.
‘Your prayers and thoughts have brought us comfort during this time of tragedy.
‘We want to thank Jessica’s classmates and teachers and all of our friends for helping us remember her.
‘We are especially grateful to the Renton Police and Fire Departments for their response and thoroughness in their work.’
