During the investigation of the first three shootings, officers learned Ken Myers intended to harm several members of the community. In the process of checking on area residents about 1 a.m. today, authorities completing a well-being check at 630 Big Branch Road, located a fourth victim believed to have been killed by Myers.
According to a news release from Capt. Charles Barranco, of the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, Meyers, 47, of Old 96 Indian Trail Road, was spotted by officers as they were doing these well-being checks, and a chase ensued.
During the chase, authorities said, sheriff’s deputies and Wagener police officers shot at Myers when he tried to ram their vehicles with the vehicle he was driving. Officers chased Myers back to the original incident location on Daytona Road, and he shot himself, authorities said.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been requested to investigate the officer-involved shooting and apparent suicide, the news release says.
Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said that about 6 p.m. Saturday, three bodies were discovered at a Daytona Road home. Their names were: Angela M. Myers, 25, wife of the gunman; her twin sister, Tabitha T. Brown; and their mother, Vicki May Hook Brown, 50. All three died from single gunshot wounds.
The woman found dead at the Big Branch Road address was Esther Baldwin, 47, who had lived with Ken Myers for seven years, Carlton said. She also died from single gunshot wound.
Autopsies are scheduled for Monday morning in Newberry. Toxicology is pending. The women’s deaths were ruled homicides, and the gunman’s death was rule a suicide. The investigation on all five deaths is ongoing, Carlton said.
About 50 officers had spent Saturday night looking for Ken Myers. The massive manhunt began after 6 p.m., when authorities received a call about three people killed on Daytona Road, near South Carolina Highway 39.
