Maine State Police have released the transcript for the 911 call made the morning Ayla Reynolds was reported missing more than two years ago.

The transcript shows Justin DiPietro called 911 at 8:49 a.m. on Saturday Dec. 17, 2011.

DiPietro tells a dispatcher that his 20-month-old daughter was missing.

According to the transcript, DiPietro says his sister, her daughter, his girlfriend and her son were also in the house.

DiPietro then tells a dispatcher that he last saw his daughter at 8 p.m. Friday.

At that point, the dispatcher tells DiPietro that officers are on the way to his house.

DiPietro says his daughter was last wearing green pajamas and tells the dispatcher that his sister Elisha saw the girl in her crib at 10 p.m.

The call then goes dead and DiPietro calls back and says his cellphone died.

At that point, DiPietro tells the dispatcher that his daughter’s name is Ayla Reynolds.

The dispatcher then asks DiPietro if they have checked the entire house and if there was any way she could have climbed out of her crib.

DiPietro says there was no way she could have gotten out of the crib.

According to the transcript, an officer then arrives at the scene and the 911 call ends.

Maine State Police have said they believe Ayla Reynolds is dead.

No one has been arrested or named a suspect in connection with her disappearance.

Ayla Reynolds was a 20-month-old toddler from Waterville, Maine who disappeared on Dec. 17, 2011.  She was last seen at 10 PM on the evening of December 16, in her bed by a family member, but was found missing by her father the next morning. The search for Ayla is the largest criminal investigation in state history, it is the third largest search for a missing child in Maine history, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Ayla’s disappearance is believed to be the result of “foul play“.

Ayla Reynolds is the daughter of Trista Reynolds and Justin DiPietro. Neither have been charged in relation to the case; however, State investigators and Trista Reynolds have both stated that they believe DiPietro has not been forthcoming about his knowledge of Ayla’s disappearance.

Ayla had been sent for a stay with her father, Justin DiPietro, by her mother and primary caretaker, Trista Reynolds. Trista had sent Ayla to stay with her mother while Reynolds attended a substance abuse recovery program, but social workers removed Ayla from her grandmother’s care and placed her with DiPietro. She was reported missing from her bed on December 17, 2011.  According to DiPietro and police, the last time he saw Ayla, she was wearing green polka dot pajamas with “Daddy’s Princess” written across them, along with a soft cast on her left arm. There were two people besides DiPietro in the house at the time of Ayla’s disappearance – his girlfriend Courtney Roberts, and his sister Alisha DiPietro.

A news conference was held by state police in May 2012 to discuss recent developments in the case, such as the discovery of blood in her father’s house and the number of people who were present at the time of her disappearance.[9] The blood was confirmed to be more than a cupful of Ayla’s blood, adjacent to DiPietro’s bed. The only comment state investigators made at the time of discovery was made was that it was ‘more blood than a small cut would produce.'”

It was later reported that DiPietro had taken a two-hour road trip before reporting Ayla missing, and that DiPietro had also taken out a life-insurance policy on Ayla’s life.

Following Ayla’s disappearance, a reward of $30,000 for information leading to her safe return was posted by various Waterville businesses. The reward generated approximately 1,200 leads, many of them from psychics, none of which lead to the discovery of any information regarding Ayla.

DiPietro did not speak about his daughter’s disappearance for almost three weeks after the story broke. As a result, Ayla’s mother accused him of having something to hide.

DiPietro, his brother Lance, and a mutual friend collaborated with the Laura Recovery Center to produce tshirts, buttons, flyers, and other goods to spread awareness of the disappearance.

Nearly a full year later, in October 2012, police trawled Messalonskee Stream a second time to look for Ayla’s remains, when construction workers repairing a bridge artificially lowered the water level in the stream. Nothing was found.

At the one year anniversary of Ayla’s disappearance, the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, and Waterville Police stated that they will not let up on search efforts until Ayla is found.[4] Two searches conducted earlier that month in southern New Hampshire and in Mayfield turned up nothing

A candlelight vigil was held in Waterville to mark one month of Ayla missing, and was attended by DiPietro. He was also the first to leave the vigil and refused to speak to the media. Trista organized a 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) walk in Waterville called the “Eyes Open” walk, as well as a similar walk in Portland, in May and July 2012, in order to keep media attention on the case.

A local songwriter, Pete Haase, wrote a song about Ayla’s disappearance and the affect it had on the community.

Justin DiPietro was arrested on July 6, 2013, on an unrelated domestic violence assault charge.

ht quadruplets 3 sr 140509 16x9 608 Texas Family Welcomes One in a Million Quadruplets

May 9, 2014               3:15pm

It might be a good time for the Hall family to buy lottery tickets after they welcomed a “one in a million” set of quadruplets into the world this week.

Anna and Josh Hall from Fort Worth, Texas, became the proud parents of Brooks, Sadie, Elle and Ivy on Monday at the Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine. The babies were born at only 31 weeks and will remain in the hospital for six weeks, giving them a chance to gain weight before going home.

Even with fertility treatments, experts say a quadruplets birth is extremely rare. Dr. Sherry Kappler, a neonatologist at Baylor Regional Medical Center and Pediatrix medical group, called the chance “one in a million” and said the biggest risk for quadruplets was being born premature.

“Most [quadruplets] are born at 29 weeks but [they] made it to 31,” said Kappler. “When they’re born early, we worry about their lung and brain development.”

The babies were the first set of quadruplets to be delivered at the hospital and Kappler said the team made sure they were prepared.

“Just to take care of the babies is 12 people,” said Kappler. “We did a walk through and practice [with] practice babies. By the time Monday happened we all knew where we needed to be…We thank the babies for being such good patients.”

Josh Hall, already a father to two older daughters, said the quadruplets’ birth was even more special since it fell on his 36th birthday.

“It was a really fun birthday that will never be one upped,” said Hall, who acknowledges he’ll probably never get his own birthday celebration after the quadruplets’ birthday. “It went out with a bang.”

Hall said they were surprised when they learned about the number of infants during Anna’s pregnancy, but were thankful all four babies were healthy and happy.

“Everything changes,” said Hall of learning about the quadruplets for the first time. “We left the doctor’s office and we prayed together and talked about how we knew these babies were a blessing. We had wanted kids for so long, we were in fertility  treatments for six years,” said Hall. “There was no other way we could look at this other than this as a blessing. ”

The word literally is often misused, but in this case Courtney Stodden is literally, not figurativelybusting out of her bikini top.

The 19-year-old proudly had her breasts enlarged on camera last June, and she’s making the most of what she paid for.

Anyone who’s taken a gander at Stodden’s Instgram account knows that she’s simultaneously competing for the title of Human Barbie and Selfie Queen.

Watch out, Valerie Lukyanova; Courtney Stodden is coming for you.

Logies 2014. Asher Keddie. Picture: Julie Kiriacoudis

APRIL 28, 2014               12:44AM

SHE is usually the picture of class and style but last night Offspring’s Asher Keddie had people wondering what she was thinking.

The newly married TV star stepped out on the 2014 Logies red carpet in a black and leather number created by one of her favourite designers J’Aton.

The actress who is nominated for a Gold Logie for her role as Nina in the hit Network Ten drama looked positively vampish in the bewitching, black dress and teased hair.

It certainly is a more risque look for Asher who has worn J’Aton in the past and received much praise.

So what do you think of her leather ensemble?

You aren't at a photoshoot: The reality star was seen pouting and posing away despite enjoying a day at the beach solo

But these bikini snaps of Camille Grammer would leave most men drooling not running in the opposite direction.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star has been snapped showing off her impressively trim shape as she enjoyed a day at the beach in Los Angeles.

Camille was preened to perfection for the day at the beach with freshly blow-dried hair and a full face of make-up.

But despite her groomed look Camile didn’t have any qualms about frolicking in the sea.

The model made her way into the surf with a straw hat in hand, and jumped about as the waves broke against her back.

The reality star’s face was animated as she played in the water before finally returning to the sand.

Back on the beach Camille demonstrated she takes care of her skin by rubbing sunscreen on.

After that task was done she decided to kneel on her towel before putting her arms forward so she was on all fours, in a most unusual sunbathing position.

Balancing on one hand she raised her hand to her face while sticking her bottom high up into the air.

While Camile was demanding attention one person who will not be interested in her antics is her ex-husband Kelsey.

After seeing a photograph of his ex-wife the Frasier star stormed out of the CNN building leaving host Piers Morgan shocked, and more importantly without a guest to interview for his show.

Piers told fans about Kelsey’s runner tweeting: ‘Kelsey Grammer was supposed to be on my show now but ran out of the building. Strange.’

‘Kelsey saw a photo of his ex wife Camille in the open to our show and legged it. Extraordinary. Never had this happen before.’

Piers said that he and the 57-year-old Boss star had already chatted and all seemed well.’

Despite his apparent reticence, Kelsey has previously been only too happy to discuss his ex wife, who stars in the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

He has taken swipes at the 44-year-old in interviews, revealing that they hadn’t had sex for ‘ a decade’ before their split.

Kelsey is now married to 29-year-old Katye Walsh, who is the mother of his newborn daughter Faith.

The three-time divorced Frasier star never signed a prenuptial agreement with his ex-wife of 13 years, and she stands to make a fortune – $30 million – in the yet to be agreed settlement.

Russia’s move to seize control of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula on Saturday led Ukraine to call up its military reserves on Sunday and warn Moscow against further incursions as Western powers scrambled to find a response to the crisis.

A day after the Russian Parliament granted President Vladimir V. Putin broad authority to use military force in response to the political upheaval in Ukraine that dislodged a Kremlin ally and installed a new, staunchly pro-Western government, the Ukrainian government in Kiev threatened war if Russia sent troops further into Ukraine.

Russian troops stripped of identifying insignia but using military vehicles bearing the license plates of Russia’s Black Sea force swarmed the major thoroughfares of Crimea on Saturday, encircled government buildings, closed the main airport and seized communication hubs, solidifying what began on Friday as a covert effort to control the largely pro-Russian region.

The announcement of the reserve mobilization was an attempt by the rattled new government in Kiev to draw a line against Mr. Putin, an effort expected to continue later on Sunday when NATO holds an emergency meeting on Ukraine and the British foreign secretary, William Hague, visits Kiev in a sign of Western support.

What began three months ago as a protest against the Ukrainian government has now turned into a big-power confrontation reminiscent of the Cold War and a significant challenge to international agreements on the sanctity of the borders of the post-Soviet nations.

Mr. Putin convened the upper house of Parliament in Moscow on Saturday to grant him authority to use force to protect Russian citizens and soldiers not only in Crimea but throughout Ukraine. Both actions — military and parliamentary — were a direct rebuff to President Obama, who on Friday pointedly warned Russia to respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Mr. Obama accused Russia on Saturday of a “breach of international law” and condemned the country’s military intervention, calling it a “clear violation” of Ukrainian sovereignty.

In Crimea, the situation was calm but hardly placid on Sunday morning, with fewer soldiers visible on the streets. Some heavily armed soldiers without insignia had taken up positions around small Ukrainian military bases, but without trying to enter them.

At Perevalnoye, a small Ukrainian base some 15 miles south of Simferopol on the road to Yalta, scores of soldiers with masks, helmets and goggles, in unmarked uniforms, ranged along one wall of the base. Inside there were about two dozen Ukrainian soldiers, equipped with an armored personnel carrier.

Col. Sergei Starozhenko, 38, the Ukrainian commander, told reporters the unmarked troops had arrived about 5 A.M. and “they want to block the base.”

He said he expected them to bring reinforcements and call for talks. Asked how many men he has at his command, he said simply: “Enough.”

In Sevastopol, pro-Russian “self-defense” forces were blocking the entrances of the main Ukrainian naval headquarters. There was no sign of Russian troops, Ukrainian officers were at work inside and armed Ukrainians guards were on patrol behind the closed gates.

Pro-Russia demonstrators put up a banner reading: “Sevastopol without Fascism,” and urged Ukrainian officers to come over to their side rather than serve the “illegal fascist regime” in Kiev. The demonstrators shoved packs of cigarettes, candy and bottles of water through gate for the Ukrainian guards.

“They have to make a choice — they either obey the fascists in Kiev or the people,” said Sergei Seryogin, a pro-Russia activist outside. Kiev, he said, “is illegal power” and should be ignored by all military and civil officials.

Russia kept up its propaganda campaign on Sunday in defense of the takeover, citing undefined threats to Russian citizens and proclaiming “massive defections” of Ukrainian forces in Crimea, which appeared to Western reporters to be unfounded. The state-owned Itar-Tass news agency cited the Russian border guard agency claiming that 675,000 Ukrainians had fled to Russia in January and February and that there were signs of a “humanitarian catastrophe.”

Russia insists that its intervention is only to protect its citizens and interests from chaos and disorder following the still unexplained departure from Kiev of former president Viktor F. Yanukovych.

“If ‘revolutionary chaos’ in Ukraine continues, hundreds of thousands of refugees will flow into bordering Russian regions,” the border service said, according to Tass, providing one more unsubstantiated justification for Russian military intervention.

Late Saturday, Ukraine’s acting president, Oleksandr Turchynov, said he had ordered Ukraine’s armed forces to full readiness because of the threat of “potential aggression.” He also said he had ordered stepped-up security at nuclear power plants, airports and other strategic infrastructure.

Prime Minister Arseniy P. Yatsenyuk, said he was “convinced” Russia would not intervene militarily in eastern Ukraine, “since this would be the beginning of war and the end of all relations” with Russia.

While Ukrainian forces in Crimea offered no resistance, there is concern that Russia might use the same pretext of citizens in peril to move forces into eastern Ukraine, which has many Russian speakers and heavy industry with close ties to Russia.

Large pro-Russia crowds rallied on Saturday in the eastern Ukrainian cities of Donetsk and Kharkiv, where there were reports of violence. In Kiev, the Ukrainian capital, fears grew within the new provisional government that separatist upheaval would fracture the country just days after a winter of civil unrest had ended with the ouster of Mr. Yanukovych, the Kremlin ally who fled to Russia.

In addition to the risk of open war, it was a day of frayed nerves and set-piece political appeals that recalled ethnic conflicts of past decades in the former Soviet bloc, from the Balkans to the Caucasus.

Mr. Obama, who had warned Russia on Friday that “there will be costs” if it violated Ukraine’s sovereignty, spoke with Mr. Putin for 90 minutes on Saturday, according to the White House, and urged him to withdraw his forces back to their bases in Crimea and to stop “any interference” in other parts of Ukraine.

In a statement afterward, the White House said the United States would suspend participation in preparatory meetings for the G-8 economic conference to be held in Sochi, Russia, in June, and warned of “greater political and economic isolation” for Russia.

The Kremlin offered its own description of the call, in which it said Mr. Putin spoke of “a real threat to the lives and health of Russian citizens” in Ukraine, and warned that “in case of any further spread of violence to Eastern Ukraine and Crimea, Russia retains the right to protect its interests and the Russian-speaking population of those areas.”

In Britain, Prime Minister David Cameron said that “there can be no excuse for outside military intervention” in Ukraine.

Canada said it was recalling its ambassador from Moscow and, like the United States, suspending preparations for the G-8 meeting.

At the United Nations, the Security Council held an emergency meeting on Ukraine for the second time in two days. The American ambassador, Samantha Power, called for an international observer mission, urged Russia to “stand down” and took a dig at the Russian ambassador, Vitaly I. Churkin, on the issue of state sovereignty, which the Kremlin frequently invokes in criticizing the West over its handling of Syria and other disputes.

“Russian actions in Ukraine are violating the sovereignty of Ukraine and pose a threat to peace and security,” she said.

The secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, also spoke with Mr. Putin on Saturday and described himself as “gravely concerned” and urged Mr. Putin to negotiate with officials in Kiev.

Mr. Yanukovych’s refusal, under Russian pressure, to sign new political and free trade agreements with the European Union last fall set off the civil unrest that last month led to the deaths of more than 80 people, and ultimately unraveled his presidency. The country’s new interim government has said it will revive those accords.

Ukraine’s acting president, Oleksandr V. Turchynov, said at a briefing in Kiev on Saturday evening that he had ordered Ukraine’s armed forces “to full combat readiness.” A Ukrainian military official in Crimea said Ukrainian soldiers had been told to “open fire” if they came under attack by Russian troops or others though it was unlikely they could pose a serious challenge to Russian forces.

Officials in Kiev demanded that Russia pull back its forces, and confine them to the military installations in Crimea that Russia has long leased from Ukraine.

“The presence of Russian troops in Crimea now is unacceptable,” said acting Prime Minister Arseniy P. Yatsenyuk. Decrying the Russian deployment as a “provocation,” he added, “We call on the government of the Russian Federation to immediately withdraw its troops, return to the place of deployment and stop provoking civil and military confrontation in Ukraine.”

Sergey Tigipko, a former deputy prime minister of Ukraine and one-time ally of Mr. Yanukovych, said he flew to Moscow in hopes of brokering a truce.

The fast-moving events began in the morning, when the pro-Russia prime minister of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, declared that he had sole control over the military and the police, and appealed to Mr. Putin for Russian help in safeguarding the region. He also said a public referendum on independence would be held on March 30.

The Kremlin quickly issued a statement saying that Mr. Aksyonov’s plea “would not be ignored,” and within hours the upper chamber of Russia’s Parliament had authorized military action.

The authorization cited Crimea, where Russia maintains important military installations, but covered the use of force in the entire “territory of Ukraine.” Parliament also asked Mr. Putin to withdraw Russia’s ambassador to the United States.

By nightfall, the scores of armed men in uniform who first appeared on Crimea’s streets on Friday had melted away from the darkened center of Simferopol, vanishing as mysteriously as they arrived.

For the new government in Kiev, the tensions in Crimea created an even more dire and immediate emergency than the looming financial disaster that they had intended to focus on in their first days in office.

A $15 billion bailout that Mr. Yanukovych secured from Russia has been suspended because of the political upheaval, and Ukraine is in desperate need of financial assistance. Mr. Yatsenyuk, the acting prime minister, had said that the government’s first responsibility was to begin negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and start to put in place the economic reforms and painful austerity measures that the fund requested in exchange for help.

In Crimea, however, officials said they did not recognize the new government, and declared that they had taken control.

Mr. Aksyonov, the regional prime minister, said he was ordering the regional armed forces, the Interior Ministry troops, the Security Service, border guards and other ministries under his direct control. “I ask anyone who disagrees to leave the service,” he said.

As soldiers mobilized across the peninsula, the region’s two main airports were closed, with civilian flights canceled, and they were guarded by heavily armed men in military uniforms.

Similar forces surrounded the regional Parliament building and the rest of the government complex in downtown Simferopol, as well as numerous other strategic locations, including communication hubs and a main bus station.

Near the entrance to Balaklava, the site of a Ukrainian customs and border post near Sevastopol, the column of military vehicles with Russian plates included 10 troop trucks, with 30 soldiers in each, two military ambulances and five armored vehicles.

Soldiers, wearing masks and carrying automatic rifles, stood on the road keeping people away from the convoy, while some local residents gathered in a nearby square waving Russian flags and shouting, “Russia! Russia!”

As with the troops in downtown Simferopol, the soldiers did not have markings on their uniforms.

There were also other unconfirmed reports of additional Russian military forces arriving in Crimea, including Russian ships landing in Feodosiya, in eastern Crimea.

Crimea, while part of Ukraine, has enjoyed a large degree of autonomy under an agreement with the federal government in Kiev since shortly after Ukrainian independence from the Soviet Union.

The strategically important peninsula, which has been the subject of military disputes for centuries, has strong historic, linguistic and cultural ties to Russia. The population of roughly two million is predominantly Russian, followed by a large number of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars, people of Turkic-Muslim origin.

In eastern Ukraine, which is also heavily pro-Russian, demonstrators in Kharkiv rallied and then seized control of a government building, pulling down the blue-and-yellow Ukrainian flag and raising the blue, white and red Russian one. Scores of people were injured as protesters scuffled with supporters of the new government in Kiev.

In Donetsk, also in the east, several thousand people held a rally in the city center, local news agencies reported, with many chanting pro-Russian slogans and demanding a public referendum on secession from Ukraine.

In Moscow, the parliamentary debate on authorizing military action was perfunctory, but laced with remarks that echoed the worst days of the Cold War. Underscoring the extent to which the crisis has become part of Russia’s broader grievances against the West, lawmakers focused on Mr. Obama and the United States as much as on the fate of Russians in Ukraine.

“All this is being done under the guise of democracy, as the West says,” Nikolai I. Ryzhkov, one member of Parliament, said during the debate. “They tore apart Yugoslavia, routed Egypt, Libya, Iraq and so on, and all this under the false guise of peaceful demonstrations.” He added, “So we must be ready in case they will unleash the dogs on us.”

Yuri L. Vorobyov, the body’s deputy chairman, said Mr. Obama’s warning on Friday was a cause for Russia to act. “I believe that these words of the U.S. president are a direct threat,” he said. “He has crossed the red line and insulted the Russian people.”

February 9th, 2014

Jamie Anderson stood at the top of the slopestyle course Sunday, her boots strapped to her snowboard and opportunity at her feet. She had won more of slopestyle’s big competitions than any other woman, but now the event was in the Olympics, and she had one run to capture the gold medal she was expected to win.

“I was freaking out,” Anderson said later.

Around her neck, under her jacket, she wore mantra beads, from a yoga teacher in Breckenridge, Colo., that Anderson said gave “sacred energy.” There were “power stone” and “moonstone” of clear quartz. In her ears, she had the Nas song “I Can” playing.

“I know I can,” the song begins, to a head-bobbing beat, “be what I want to be.”

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She imagined her run, felt the landings, saw her family and her “spirit grandma” — a neighbor from South Lake Tahoe, Calif. — cheering at the bottom, half a mile and 45 seconds away.

And then she went there.

Anderson won the gold medal, a case of the biggest prize going to the event’s biggest star. She capped an American sweep of the titles in the inaugural Olympic slopestyle events, after Sage Kotsenburg had won the men’s event a day earlier.

“I was really just trying to stay calm and kind of preserve my energy,” Anderson said later, her shoulders wrapped in the American flag and a smile draping her face. “There was a lot of stress up there. Even though it’s just another competition, the stage and the outreach that this event connects to across the whole world is out of control. All of us just wanted to do our best. I was so happy and thankful to put down a run.”

As in men’s slopestyle, in which competitors navigated a course of obstacles and then launched themselves from several large jumps, judges rewarded style over size.

Anderson’s winning run included a pair of 720s, or two rotations, done with grace. A couple of competitors performed more spins, including Sina Candrian of Switzerland, who landed the first 1080 by a woman in competition. Candrian finished fourth.

It was an echo of the day before, when Kotsenburg’s smooth, stylish performance beat more acrobatic routines. They were telling results, because snowboarders have long been leery of the Olympics, fearing they would pull the sport away from its mellow roots and toward an aerials-style spinoff. Over two days at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park, Olympic judges quashed those concerns, rewarding nuance over spectacle.

Anderson’s run had plenty of difficulty. And when she saw a few others try bigger but not necessarily more eye-pleasing tricks, she pondered her run.

“It crossed my mind,” she said. “But at the end of the day, I wanted to do something I could do perfect.”

Others could not duplicate it. Australia’s Torah Bright, the defending gold medalist in the halfpipe who earned her way into three Olympic snowboarding events this time, could not land a clean run and finished seventh.

Silje Norendal of Norway, who won the slopestyle event at last month’s Winter X Games, and Spencer O’Brien of Canada, who was third at the X Games, each succumbed to wipeouts. Norendal finished 11th, and O’Brien 12th.

Enni Rukajarvi of Finland won the silver medal, and Jenny Jones won bronze, becoming the first British Winter Olympian to earn a medal in a snow event.

But it was Anderson, popular for her radiant personality and earthy manner, who prevailed again. The fifth of eight children, home-schooled and familiar with the mountains around Lake Tahoe, she had never seemed the type to become anxious over a snowboarding competition. She had won so many.

But she had been so nervous Saturday night that she did not eat. She turned on meditation music, burned sage, wrote in her journal and did yoga to calm herself.

“I love her,” Jones said, laughing as Anderson described the routine. Jones relaxed by watching “Downton Abbey.”

Anderson’s nerves spiked again after a near-perfect first run was ruined by a poor landing on the third and final jump. It was still good enough for second after the 12-woman field’s first run, but by the time Anderson got her second and final chance, she was in fifth place.

Coach Mike Jankowski reminded her to breathe, and smile.

“At the end of the day, it’s snowboarding,” said Anderson, 23. “We all started it because of the fun it brings and how much joy it is being out there on the mountain with your friends. It’s like playing, you know? We’re pretty much snowboarding on a playground up there.”

Still, she felt the gravity of the opportunity. The X Games, she said, are the top event in action sports, but the Olympics are the biggest event in sports.

She closed her eyes. She took a couple of deep breaths. The beads did their work. Nas did his. And then Anderson did hers. It was all just as she had imagined.
