  • ·         January 3: Ceres ingress into Aquarius at 9:41 am EST

This transit will last until March 21 and corresponds to a period during which we will commit ourselves to our social purpose and circle, group activities and networking and the process of individualization, thereby supporting our social creativity and individuating tendencies. Accompanied by Pallas’ conjunction to Pluto in Capricorn, the Sun in Capricorn’s semi-square to Chiron in Aquarius and Vesta in Sagittarius’ sextile to Saturn in Libra, this shift will have us focusing on establishing influence, while seeking to shake self-imposed limitations, which will result in us being more enterprising and enthusiastic about our relationship goals and ambitions.

  • ·         January 4: Partial Solar Eclipse at 13:38 Capricorn at 4:02 am EST

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon, Earth and Sun align with the nodal axis and the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring Earth’s view of the Sun. If they don’t line up perfectly and the Moon covers only part of the Sun, taking ‘a bite out of it’, while sweeping only through the penumbra, a partial eclipse of the Sun is seen, whereby the Sun’s light is dimmed to varying degrees. Things that have been eclipsed in the area of our life, represented by the house in our natal chart, where the Eclipse has an impact, have now a chance to be brought into the light of conscious awareness, thereby triggering individual and collective transitions, marked by endings and new beginnings. An Eclipse theme can last for up to half a year and longer. According to Celeste Teal in her book Eclipses: “As a guideline, it is generally recommended to avoid initiating major decisions or drastic life changes near the time of an Eclipse. The state of flux and initial charge of energy coming into the atmosphere tend to destabilize new ventures.”

Eclipses belong to a larger pattern; each Eclipse is a member of a family and each family has specific characteristics. The current Solar Eclipse is a member of the Saros Series 13 North, which means the Capricorn New Moon/Solar Eclipse is conjunct the North Node of the Moon, a point of intake of new energy, signifying new beginnings and offering new stimuli. This Saros Series was the last time around in December 1992 (expect a theme repeat) and has the Node at the New Moon/Mars midpoint (the meeting point of Eclipse potential/new beginning and intentions/actions = future prospects), Pluto at the Mars/Node midpoint (the meeting point of motives/actions and life direction = empowerment) and the New Moon = Venus (new beginning = validation), for which Bernadette Brady gives the following interpretation:

“This is an Eclipse family of groups and associations. Its energy is about large, ambitious group projects. These group projects will require a separation or the breaking of a bond that already exists. The individual may well experience this eclipse initially as a separation and then as joint achievement.” (Bernadette Brady, “Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and the Lark”, Appendices 326).

The Eclipse will happen in an Earth sign over which Saturn in Libra rules and will therefore affect the symmetry and arrangement of structures, foundations and institutions, the rules of engagement and regulations of and within governing bodies, communities, municipalities, the executive branch, industry, business, organizations and between authority figures, leaders, elders and adults. Emphasis will be furthermore on accountability, balance of control, management and responsibilities as well as on civility, mannerisms and codes of conduct. With an Eclipse in an Earth sign there is moreover a heightened chance of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, mudslides and avalanches.

Aspects reaching completion that day are the third and final of the Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions (the first one was on June 8 on the Aries Point and the second one on September 18, 2010 at 28+ Pisces) in trine with Venus in Scorpio with the latter also square Neptune in Aquarius, the ruler of Pisces. Resultant from an evolved approach that challenges us into heightened awareness of the complex psychological entanglements and delicate intricacies of our desire nature, triggered by realizations regarding core values and revealing insights about patterns of responses , a synthesis of truths, concepts and ideologies has been achieved. In-depth assessment is required to remove uncertainties, insecurities and false hopes. Complicated situations need to be resolved with clarity of vision and in line with higher values and ideals. Therefore, plotting our next steps and laying out plans and strategies to meet our goals and to strengthen or further our influence must be carried out with mindfulness as well as in full awareness of the implications and repercussions of our intents, yet in concert with our interests (Mercury in Sagittarius is trine Eris Rx in Aries and Pallas is conjunct Pluto in Capricorn in the Eclipse chart).

The Sabian Symbol pertaining to the zodiacal degree highlighted by the Eclipse/Capricorn New Moon states:

“An ancient bas-relief carved in granite remains a witness to a long-forgotten culture. Keynote: The will to unearth in our culture as well as in any culture what has permanent value and to let go of nonessentials – HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases”, Page 237-238)

Understanding what is truly important in long-term view and where we need to focus on will help us to make the right choices as we orient us toward the future and follow our vision, thereby releasing unrealistic expectations or projections and leaving the things behind that belong in the past, taking with us only that, which is necessary for our further growth and development.

  • ·         January 7: Venus ingress into Sagittarius at 7:30 am EST

This transit will last until February 4 and corresponds to a time of increased self-worth, growing appreciation and greater responsiveness when we approach the outside world with optimism, zeal and purpose. The Sun in Capricorn’s square to Saturn in Libra that day emphasizes the pressure that will be triggering a stronger sense of Self-responsibility and Self-respect to be able to manage our life from a stable and firm personal foundation.

  • ·         January 12: First Quarter Moon at 21:54 Aries/Capricorn at 06:31 am EST

The crisis in action, associated with the First Quarter Moon, is a test of motivation and courage that challenges us to mobilize our drive and to take up the initiative in order to set things in motion. Other aspects reaching perfection that day are Mars in Capricorn’s sextile to Uranus in Pisces, Jupiter in Pisces’ semi-sextile to Chiron in Aquarius, Venus in Sagittarius’ semi-sextile to Pluto in Capricorn and Mercury in Sagittarius’ last-degree square to Juno in Virgo. It’s time to take the necessary steps and measures to instigate long-envisioned changes and end a hopeless situation that has been dragging on for too long to be able to leave circumstances which we have outgrown, thereby using an uncompromising approach and more efficient relationship principles based on what we’ve learnt and can no longer ignore, knowing that we must be doing something about it.

  • ·         January 13: Mercury ingress/re-entry into Capricorn at 06:24 am EST

This transit will last until February 3 and corresponds to a period during which our thought process is more structured, organized and grounded in reality, permitting us to work out schedules and agendas as well as to focus on the practical and feasible. It’s also a time when we can form strong and lasting connections or strengthening existing ones. Mars in Capricorn’s semi-sextile to Chiron in Aquarius and sextile to Jupiter in Pisces that day suggests that firm intentions will stand behind our causes and projects, pushing objectives and underpinning principles and work ethics.

  • ·         January 15: Mars ingress into Aquarius at 05:41 pm EST

Preceding his Aquarius ingress, Mars in Capricorn will form a last-degree trine with Juno in Virgo, indicating that we’ve set our intentions and have taken concrete steps to improve the ways we interact and relate. This transit will last until February 23 and corresponds to a period of specialized activity when we are motivated by our inspiration, social purpose and circle, and intent on individualizing, liberating, reforming and changing. Mercury’s conjunction with the North Node in Capricorn that day implies that we’ll be firmly focusing on the achievement of our future prospects.

  • ·         January 19: Full Moon at 29:27 Cancer/Capricorn at 04:21 pm EST
  • ·         January 19: Juno stations retrograde at 29:41 Virgo at 3:40 pm EST (turns direct May 2, 2011 at 14:40 Virgo)

Juno stations retrograde in the last degree of Virgo as the Capricorn lunation cycle culminates, which begins a phase of reviewing our relationship principles for their effectiveness and of reconstructing the dynamics underlying them that happens in sync with a confrontation regarding issues of co-dependency and self-reliance. With the Sun-Moon opposition in productive aspects to Jupiter in Pisces and Juno Rx in Virgo, we can take advantage of opportunities to resolve conflicts of interests in this context, while setting up the necessary steps to improve our interrelations and toward realization of our mission. Mars in Aquarius’ semi-sextile to the North Node in Capricorn is indicative of an adjustment of our specific intentions for individualization with our life direction goals.

The Sabian Symbol for the Cancer Moon states:

“A daughter of the American Revolution. Keynote: The prestige and conservatism of a long-maintained heritage – GLORIFICATION OF THE PAST.”

The Sabian Symbol for the Capricorn Sun states:

“A secret meeting of men responsible for executive decisions in world affairs. Keynote: The power to assume responsibility for crucial choices arrived at after mature discussions with those who share this power – EXECUTIVE POWER.”

(Dane Rudhyar, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases”, Pages 130 and 248)

  • ·         January 20: Sun ingress into Aquarius at 05:18 am EST

This corresponds to a time when we seek to differentiate and individualize, to express our originality and uniqueness and seek affirmation through our social creativity. Accompanied by Juno Rx in Virgo’s opposition to Jupiter in Pisces and Pallas in Capricorn’s semi-square to Neptune in Aquarius, this energy shift brings awareness to the options we have in our interchanges with others and which beliefs stand in our way or holding us back from achieving our vision in this context.

  • ·         January 22: Jupiter ingress/re-entry into Aries at 12:11 pm EST

This transit will last until June and corresponds to a period during which we will embark on a journey to start a new chapter in our life with renewed faith and enthusiasm, based on re-envisioned objectives and an emergent awareness of possibilities. A strong sense of mission and purpose will drive our enterprising spirit, while we forge ahead convinced of the righteousness of our actions and intend on spreading our wings and truths. Aspects reaching perfection that day are the Sun in Aquarius’ semi-sextile to the North Node in Capricorn and Mercury in Capricorn’s semi-square to Neptune in Aquarius, implying an adjustment to the life direction meant to further our individual cause backed by firm decisiveness to realize our dreams.

  • ·         January 26: Third Quarter Moon at 06:12 Scorpio/Aquarius at 7:57 am EST
  • ·         January 26: Saturn stations retrograde at 17:13 Libra at 01:09 am EST (turns direct on June 13, 2011 at 10:26 Libra)

This crisis in consciousness, associated with the Last Quarter Moon, will be testing our social influence, how empowered and in control we feel in group situations and when we’re expressing our social creativity and individuality. With Saturn stationing retrograde that day a period of inner structuring and stabilization begins that leads to a reassessment of our authority. Mercury in Capricorn’s semi-square to Saturn Rx in Libra and the Sun in Aquarius’ semi-sextile to Pluto in Capricorn show our struggling will, while we try to maintain our integrity and remain detached under the pressure of forces beyond our control.

  • ·         January 28: Vesta ingress into Capricorn at 06:13 pm EST

This transit will last until April 2 and corresponds to a period during which we will devote us toward structuring, organizing and managing, investing our energy into practical, productive and constructive things. Mars’ conjunction to Ceres in Aquarius that day implicates that our commitment will be stimulated by the will to individualize and advance and to begin a cycle of inspired Self-assertion.

Astro-Notes on September 18, 2010 – the power to create

The Moon has made ingress into Aquarius this morning at 03:34 am EDT and is now on her way to activate the Mars-Pluto sextile, which will be perfecting tonight, with a square and a semi-sextile, respectively. As the atmosphere changes from heavily smoldering to electrified and thus being ready for discharge, we may find ourselves in a state of excitement and eager anticipation, our intentions geared toward establishing a base for our personal power from which we can gain more influence in private and public affairs. Therefore, we may feel strongly compelled to take advantage of the immense potential of this moment in time by intensifying our activities accordingly to be able to control the situation, especially in view of long-term developments. This happens in sync with the 2nd in a series of Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions, the first of which occurred in June in Aries with both planetary bodies in direct motion, now taking place in Pisces with both of them in retrograde motion. A process of individualized expansion that is a reorientation inspired by ideals and heightened awareness for future-oriented trends is reforming our inner landscape and stimulating longings for differentiation and liberation along the lines of our visions with our beliefs and convictions unified into an ideology of personal truths and revolutionary concepts, thereby revealing the level of elevation of our consciousness.

Tarot card of the day is “The Magician” with the message ‘I have the power to create’, which suggests to utilize the 4 tools we have to our disposal – the sword of intellect, the wand of inspiration, the cup of emotion and the pentacle of practicality – and thus mastering the 4 elements to approach our whole life or a situation with a new creative and original attitude. With self-confidence we will have the ability to act not react, the willpower to direct our energy in the direction we want it to go and gain the knowledge and the ability to tackle the important issues that need to be dealt with so that success can be achieved.

In the news: The Republican presidential field for 2012 is beginning to take shape in the U.S. in a period of intensive upheaval set off by the rise of the Tea Party movement, expanding the roster of potential candidates but presenting a more complicated road to the nomination. – Future trends and possibilities are revealed and so is the social consciousness and the level of understanding of collective issues and individual rights in a multi-cultural society by the single candidates in this group (Jupiter-Uranus), who draw their support from an angered mob (Mars-Pluto).
