Hunter Mahan has won the WGC Bridgestone Invitational 2010, by only two strokes over Ryan Palmer. Today’s scorecard showed a six under par that was enough to win. He was in birdie heaven all day, getting three consecutive birdies in the front nine, and back-to-back birdies at hole 8 and nine. On the back nine, he got a birdie on hole 13, then played par after that to maintain his two-stroke lead. Ryan Palmer looked like he had a shot to catch him, keeping most of us on the edge of our seats, but he missed birdie opportunities on holes 16 and 17, and that gave Mahan the championship.
Mahan has won two other PGA Tour championships in his career, with one of them in this season. Phil Mickelson finished tied for 46th place at plus 3, and Tiger Woods had a complete meltdown and finished tied for 78th place at 18 over par.
