China is producing a short video promoting the country to a global audience which is set to release before National Day on October 1.
China’s State Council Information Office is making the video which involves 50 Chinese celebrities from all walks of life, including the country’s first spaceman, Yang Liwei, NBA basketball player, Yao Ming, and well-known professional snooker player, Ding Junhui.
The project consists of a 30-second advertisement that will be broadcast on international mainstream media, and a 15-minute short film that will be shown at various international events.
One of the people in charge of the initiative, Zhu Youguang, said that the producers had spoken with people in the UK, France and Germany to find out what they would most like to learn about China.
The majority said that though they have some idea about China’s history, traditions and the Four Great Inventions, they are actually quite curious about the country’s present situation.
The video will also include documentary footage of Chinese leaders addressing the nation.
The producers added that the project demonstrates that China now has the confidence to display its culture and to improve communication with people around the world.
“It’s time for China to reshape its image now,” said Li Xiangyan, a professor with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
