A police administrative judge has found the detective at the center of the Sean Bell shooting violated New York Police Department guidelines and recommended that he be fired.
Det. Gescard Isnora also was found to have prematurely abandoned his role as an undercover in connection with the Nov. 23, 2006 shooting in which Bell, 23 years old, was killed and two of his friends injured as police fired 50 shots at the men.
NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Trials Martin Karopkin, who presided over Isnora’s departmental trial last month, recommended that Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly fire the detective, according to law enforcement officials.
The NYPD and Isnora’s attorney, Philip Karasyk, declined to comment.
The earliest Kelly, who has total discretion over whether to accept the judge’s recommendation or not, will receive the case and start his review is Dec. 15.
