Kyle Rudolph had a 3-yard TD reception and led the NFC with 122 receiving yards on 5 receptions. Blair Walsh hit FGs of 48 and 26 yards to go along with 8 PATs. Chad Greenway had a fumble recovery. Jerome Felton had a 4th quarter TD run. It was a good night for Vikings at the Pro Bowl.

Those contributions plus many others from the rest of the NFC squad led to a 62-35 victory over the AFC in the Pro Bowl. Rudolph’s TD came from NY Giants QB Eli Manning and it gave the NFC a commanding 31-14 lead as the squads went into the locker rooms at halftime. Felton’s TD came midway through the 4th quarter, with the game out of hand, and it gave the NFC its 62nd point and a 34-point lead.

Matt Kalil played much of the game while rotating between LT and RT, while Jared Allen also played much of the game and emphasized the importance of players participating in the game when voted in by their peers during a sideline interview during the 4th quarter. It’s notable that Allen made the statement because he’s played through a shoulder injury all season and did so once again during the Pro Bowl.

Adrian Peterson, who won Pro Bowl MVP honors after the 2007 season, had 5 carries for 13 yards and made a quick exit.

The NFC’s victory this year marks their 4th in the last 6 games.

Other standouts from the game included:

– Packers C Jeff Saturday snapping the ball to Broncos QB Peyton Manning. Saturday played for the NFC and Manning for the AFC, but the snap was a special moment because the two were long-time teammates with the Indianapolis Colts, and Saturday is set to retire this year.

– NY Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul intercepting a pass intended for Houston DE JJ Watt and thrown by Indianapolis QB Andrew Luck.

– Bengals WR AJ Green grabbing 7 receptions for 119 yards and 3 TDs.

– NY Giants QB Eli Manning going 16 of 23 for 191 yards and 2 TDs.

– Seattle QB Russell Wilson going 8 of 10 for 98 yards and 3 TDs.

– Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson and NY Giants WR Victor Cruz combining for 16 receptions for 187 yards and 3 TDs.

– Saints QB Drew Brees throwing for 131 yards and 1 TD on 8 of 11 passing.

As the Atlanta Falcons prepare face the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship, one of the big matchups to watch will be the Falcons ability to limit San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis. Davis’ combination of size and speed make him a match-up nightmare for any defense, but especially one like the Falcons which has struggled against tight ends recently.

Seattle tight end Zach Miller didn’t have more than 59 receiving yards in any game during the regular season, but he shredded the Falcon defense for 142 yards and a touchdown last week. Miller was targeted nine times, catching eight passes. Sunday wasn’t the first time the Falcons’ defense struggled to contain an opposing tight end this season. New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham caught seven passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns against the Falcons in Week 10.

In Atlanta’s 13 wins during the regular season, opposing tight ends averaged 49.6 receiving yards per game. In the Falcons’ three losses, tight ends averaged 85.7 receiving yards per game. Davis has had big games before, topping the 100-yard mark eight times during his career.

While Davis has been one of the top receiving threats during his career, he’s struggled since Colin Kaepernick took over as the starting quarterback. Davis caught just 13 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown in Kaepernick’s eight starts. Those numbers drop to just seven receptions for 105 yards and no touchdowns in the last seven games. Despite the low receiving totals, Davis has proven to still be a downfield threat at times. He caught a 44-yard pass against the Packers last week and has just missed on a number of other big plays recently.

Tony Gonzalez will get most of the attention leading up to the game, and rightfully so, future Hall of Famer and all, but if the Falcons don’t shore up the holes Seattle exploited last week it could be Davis, not Gonzalez, who has the bigger impact on the game.

The Atlanta Falcons have won blowouts on the road and at home. They have won close games at home and on the road.

More than anything, the Falcons just keeping winning. Their 24-17 victory in Washington was another sign this Atlanta team can win any style of game on any surface.

The Falcons are a dome team that’s now 3-0 outside on grass this year. They are in position to run away with the NFC South.

Sure, the Redskins aren’t exactly a great squad. They haven’t won a home game in more than a year. And Atlanta’s passing game wasn’t in sync for much of the day as receivers dropped passes and quarterback Matt Ryan missed a few chances to make a big play. When the Falcons absolutely needed drives late in the game, though, “The Mattural” delivered.

The Falcons scored 17 points in the final quarter to put this contest away. Robert Griffin III‘s injury didn’t hurt Atlanta’s chances, but the Falcons were setting themselves up well all game by dominating time of possession. The Redskins‘ defense finally gave way, and the Falcons‘ defense finished things off by intercepting Griffin’s replacement, Kirk Cousins.

Julio Jones dominated Redskins cornerback Josh Wilson late in the game. Ageless tight end Tony Gonzalez caught 13 passes to keep the chains moving.

This wasn’t a flawless effort, but the Falcons controlled a game on the road. They deserved to win. They deserve to be 5-0 and early favorites for a bye in the NFC playoffs.

Each letter of the first name rules 9 years of life.  Ages 0 to 27 are ruled by the sum of the month of birth and the first three letters of the name.

May 17th, 1985                Matthew Thomas Ryan

5 (May is the 5th month of the year) + 13 (M is the 13th letter of the alphabet) + 1 (a is the 1st letter of the alphabet) + 20 (t is the 20th letter of the alphabet) = 39

So the number 39 ruled his first twenty-seven years of life.

39 = Ideal.  Dream come true.  A nice guy.

———————————————————————————————-

Ages 27 to 54 are ruled by the sum of the day of birth and the fourth, fifth, and sixth letters of the name.

May 17th, 1985                Matthew Thomas Ryan

17 (born on the 17th day of the month) +20 (t is the 20th letter of the alphabet) + 8 (h is the 8th letter of the alphabet) + 5 (e is the 5th letter of the alphabet) = 50

So the numbers 17 (born on the 17th of the month), 33 (sum of the fourth, fifth, and sixth letters of the name), 50 (17+33=50).

17 = Inspired.  Inspirational.  Superstar.

33 = Not backing down.  Putting on a good show.
