OVERVIEW

In his first year as a starter for the Bison in 2014, all Wentz did was throw for 3,111 yards and 25 touchdowns, leading the team to its fourth consecutive FCS Championship. What did the Bismarck, N.D. native do for an encore? Just come back from a broken right wrist that sidelined him for two months to lead NDSU in a fifth-straight title game victory. He started seven games in his senior year, completing 62.5 percent of his passes for 1,651 yards and 17 touchdowns (and four interceptions) while also running for six scores. Intelligence and work ethic are no issues for Wentz, who was named to the College Sports Information Directors Association All-American squad for the second-straight year.

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS

Tall with an athletic, proportional build that is made for the NFL position. Played in a pro-style attack with plenty of snaps under center. Asked to make NFL throws and showed he could do it. Stands tall in the pocket and delivers with a relatively high release point. Keeps ball high and tight in the pocket and can uncork it quickly with tight, sharp release and little wasted motion. Throws catchable ball with tight spiral. Naturally accurate passer. Sees lurking linebackers underneath and throws receivers open to safest spot in the passing window. Able to change arm slots and still throw a strike. Has plus deep ball accuracy and touch. Calm in pocket and has no problems sitting in and taking a hit to complete a pass. Excelled in structured passing attack that required him to read the entire field. Has athleticism to escape pressure and hurt defenses with his legs. Already able to feel pressure on the edges and slide around in pocket without dropping his eyes. Adept in play-action game at selling fakes and quickly finding safeties to help determine where to go with the ball. Intelligent with long list of academic achievements. Should be able to process and handle an NFL playbook quickly. Can play pitch and catch all day long against zone coverage.

WEAKNESSES

When rolling out, will float it a little too much when taking shots down the field. Allows passing windows to close quickly when he short arms his release. Needs a little more consistency on anticipatory throws outside the hash. Will get caught locking in on target bringing secondary charging in to make a play on the ball. Inconsistent footwork from the pocket. Arm gets ahead of his feet even with time to come to balance. Needs to pick up pace of his post-snap setup. Has to put a little extra air on his field-side throws. Can be a little flat with his downfield, touch throws. Has to eliminate the occasional nonchalant throw into tight quarters. Doesn’t look comfortable yet with bootleg rollouts to the left. Broke a bone in his throwing wrist in October sidelining him for eight weeks. Dealt with arm and shoulder injuries as a baseball player in high school. Lower level of competition could cause issues for him adapting to NFL speed.

DRAFT PROJECTION

Round 1

SOURCES TELL US

“Wentz really blew us away at the combine when we met with him. Talent is a big component, but these guys have to have intangibles if they are going to lead franchises and he’s got them. I don’t care where he played, he understands the game and it isn’t too big for him.” — AFC executive

NFL COMPARISON

BOTTOM LINE

With a body type that is as prototypical as they come and a background in reading the entire field and working through progressions, Wentz will immediately check a couple of boxes that many college quarterbacks won’t be able to check. While his arm strength is OK, he can still make all the throws and he can make them with accuracy. His ability to escape pressure and pick up first downs with his feet will be yet another check mark in his favor. Wentz is still in a developmental phase after just two years at an FCS program, but has the mental and physical building blocks of a future, franchise quarterback.

Brad Miller

A police officer who killed an unarmed college football player during a suspected burglary at a Texas car dealership was fired Monday for what the city’s police chief said were mistakes that caused a deadly confrontation and put him and other officers in danger.

Arlington Officer Brad Miller, 49, could also face criminal charges once police complete their investigation, Police Chief Will Johnson said.

Called to the scene of a suspected burglary early Friday morning, Miller pursued 19-year-old Christian Taylor through the broken glass doors of a car dealership showroom without telling his supervising officer, Johnson said.

Instead of setting up a perimeter around the showroom, Miller confronted Taylor and ordered him to get down on the ground, Johnson said. Taylor did not comply. Instead, he began “actively advancing toward Officer Miller,” Johnson said.

Miller’s field training officer, who had followed Miller into the showroom, drew his own Taser. The training officer heard a single “pop” of what he thought was Miller’s Taser, but Miller actually had drawn his service weapon and fired it at Taylor, Johnson said. He then fired his gun three more times, Johnson said.

“Decisions were made that had catastrophic outcomes,” Johnson said.

Taylor’s death came two days before the anniversary of the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old who was shot by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo.

Taylor, who was black, was a graduate of an Arlington high school and a football player at Angelo State University in West Texas. Miller is white.

There is no video of the shooting itself, though security camera footage from the Classic Buick GMC dealership’s parking lots shows Taylor walking around and damaging some vehicles.

Before his final confrontation with Miller, Taylor allegedly held up a set of car keys and told another officer that he intended to steal a car, Johnson said. He had driven a vehicle through the glass front doors of the showroom and, after officers arrived, was slamming his body into the side of a different part of the building to try to escape, the chief said.

“It is clear from the facts obtained that Mr. Taylor was noncompliant with police demands,” Johnson said.

But the chief said he ultimately decided Miller’s mistakes required his firing. He said it would be up to a grand jury to decide whether Miller’s actions were criminal.

Miller joined the Police Department in September and graduated from the city’s police academy earlier this year.

He was still undergoing field training and assigned to a more senior officer, though he was a licensed police officer and was authorized to carry a weapon. Police have previously said that he had never fired his weapon in the line of duty before.

Police officials say Miller cannot appeal his firing because he was a probationary employee. Police spokesman Tiara Richard said Miller had retained an attorney. The police union, Arlington Municipal Patrolman’s Assn., had no comment.

While the FBI’s Dallas field office said Monday that it was deferring any investigation to local authorities, Johnson said he was in contact with FBI officials about the case.

A reality TV star has been killed in her Los Angeles home and her boyfriend has been charged with her murder.

Loredana Nesci, 47, a former police officer and lawyer who was the star of the Sundance Channel show Loredana, Esq, was found dead early Wednesday morning.

According to reports the ‘Legal Diva’s’ boyfriend, Robert Reagan, was ‘distraught’ when he called 911 to report an emergency at around 7:20am.

Loredana Nesci, a former police officer and lawyer who was the star of the Sundance Channel show Loredana, Esq, was found dead in her LA home early Wednesday morning

The 51-year old was arrested after officers discovered Nesci’s body, the LA Times reported.

The pair have a five-year-old son, Rocco Nesci-Reagan, who was not at home at the time of the incident, police have said.

Sgt. Fabian Saucedo of the Redondo Beach Police Department said Nesci had either been shot or stabbed.

According to a biography on her website, Nesci moved to California where she began her legal career as a Los Angeles police officer in 1996.

In 1998 she left to attend law school before going to work at  Spinella & Associates, P.C. in Hamden, Connecticut.

She expanded the firm’s practice to include entertainment law, a division that she ran.

In 2003, she joined Cadden, Ivers & Ivers, a popular boutique firm in Meriden, Connecticut.

During her time at the company, the Connecticut Law Tribune wrote a feature article on her as a legal personality and dubbed her ‘The Legal Diva.’

Police said Nesci, who described herself as a fitness competitor and New York Yankees fan, was either shot or stabbed, but would not officially confirm the cause of death

Nesci's last Instagram post showed her kissing one of her dogs Louie, 24 hours before her death

In 2004, The Legal Diva returned to California and opened up shop under her own name and has grown her brand exponentially.

Nesci’s career took a different turn in the latter part of December 2008, when she was offered to host her own radio show on the local California radio station, KCAA 1050 AM.

Then in 2013 the Sundance Channel produced and aired a non-fiction television show called, ‘Loredana, Esq.’, which ran for a season.

Repeats are still shown on the network and she was set to be making more TV appearances this year.

Reagan is being held on a $1million bond.

Detectives are calling for new leads in the case of Tyrell Cobb, who died in 2009 aged 4.

Detectives are calling for new leads in the case of Tyrell Cobb, who died in 2009 aged 4. Source: News Limited

DETECTIVES want to hear from neighbours of a four-year-old boy who died on the Gold Coast six years ago after reopening an investigation into his suspected murder.

Tyrell Cobb died in hospital from unspecified injuries after being found unconscious at a Biggera Waters home in May 2009.

A murder charge against a 26-year-old man was withdrawn in 2010, but detectives have now started a “comprehensive reinvestigation” into Tyrell’s death after fresh information came to light.

Detective Inspector Mark White wouldn’t reveal what that information was, but said investigators were keen to hear from anyone who may have lived at, or visited, one of two unit complexes where Tyrell was resting before his death.

He believes anyone who was at the complexes, located at 76 Brighton St, Biggera Waters and 45 Bayview St, Runaway Bay in May 2009 could have vital information about Tyrell.

“It may have even been as inconsequential as somebody visiting a friend, the friend wasn’t home and they may have seen or heard something,” he said on Thursday.

Det Insp Mark White said six detectives were re-examining everything in the initial police investigation and were “broadening a whole range of lines of inquiry”.

He said anyone who cared for Tyrell or had some contact with his family had been part of the investigation, but stressed detectives were only gathering information at this point.

“As far as suspects go, our investigation is more about collating the information,” he said.

“We are not at a point yet where there are going to be any charges immediately.”

A 20-year-old college student has been charged with murder after allegedly bludgeoning his boyfriend to death after a night out.

Bryan Canchola viciously beaten Stephen Sylvester, 19, during a heated argument on Friday at an apartment they shared in Austin, Texas, before strangling his beloved dog, police have said.

At one point the suspect, who is a student at St Mary’s University, is believed to have screamed at him: ‘Why would you cheat on me?’

According to KVUE the pair, who hadn’t been dating for very long before the horrific incident unfolded, came out of their room pushing and shoving each other.

Their roommate told them to keep the noise down, so they apologized and went back into their room.

But the fight continued and, at around 4:30am, the roommate heard Sylvester scream: ‘Let go; I’m trying to leave.’

The best friend of the man who drowned in Hollywood star Demi Moore’s swimming pool has revealed he was teetotal – meaning alcohol wasn’t a factor in his death.

And Dulce Flores says she is racked with guilt over close friend Edenilson Valle’s death because she believes she could have saved his life.

Student Dulce had been invited by Edenilson to Ghost actress Moore’s home on Saturday, but declined the invite – a decision she deeply regrets.

The 22-year-old from Los Angeles told Daily Mail Online: ‘Edenilson asked me if I wanted to go, but I couldn’t. I’m now so upset because I could’ve been there to save him. I wish I was there to save him.

‘It’s such a tragic waste of life, and something like that should never have happened to him.’

Dulce fought back tears as she recalled fellow student Edenilson, 21, whose body was found floating in Moore’s pool at her Beverly Hills mansion on Sunday.
