CASUALLY levitating by the side of a London bus, there could only be one man performing this astonishing stunt.

Illusionist Dynamo left onlookers open-mouthed in awe as he apparently hovered in the air with one hand touching the side of a double-decker while it drove through London.

The photo was released to promote his forthcoming Magician Impossible TV show, but don’t expect him to reveal how he did it. The magician, real name Steven Frayne, never gives away the secrets behind his tricks.

Newspapers in London and social media worldwide are consumed with trying to figure out the secret. The best hint comes from The Guardian.

“All is certainly not as it seems – there’s no 543 London bus for starters, so we can assume the people on board are in on the trick, and the bus could well be rigged,” The Guardian writers.

Still that doesn’t explain how he is levitating. What do you think? How did he do it?

June 9, 2013
A 29-year-old former C.I.A. computer technician went public on Sunday as the source behind the daily drumbeat of disclosures about the nation’s surveillance programs, saying he took the extraordinary step because “the public needs to decide whether these programs and policies are right or wrong.”

President Obama has ordered Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to conduct a review.

During a 12-minute video interviewthat went online Sunday, Edward Joseph Snowden calmly answered questions about his journey from being a well-compensated government contractor with nearly unlimited access to America’s intelligence secrets to being holed up in a Hong Kong hotel room, the subject of a United States investigation, with the understanding that he could spend the rest of his life in jail.

The revelation came after days of speculation that the source behind a series of leaks that have transfixed Washington must have been a high-level official at one of America’s spy agencies. Instead, the leaker is a relatively low-level employee of a giant government contractor, Booz Allen Hamilton, that has won billions of dollars in secret government contracts over the past decade, partly by aggressively marketing itself as the premier protector of America’s classified computer infrastructure.

The episode presents both international and domestic political difficulties for the Obama administration. If Mr. Snowden remained in China, the White House would have to navigate getting him out of a country that has been America’s greatest adversary on many issues of computer security.

Then the United States must set up a strategy for prosecuting a man whom many will see as a hero for provoking a debate that President Obama himself has said he welcomes — amid already fierce criticism of the administration’s crackdown on leaks. The court-martial of Pfc. Bradley Manning, who released a vast archive of military and diplomatic materials to WikiLeaks, resumes Monday.

Mr. Snowden, who said he was seeking asylum abroad, perhaps in Iceland, gave the interview to The Guardian, the British newspaper and global Web site that during the past week published a string of articles about classified National Security Agency programs. Both The Guardian and The Washington Post, which also published articles disclosing the surveillance programs, identified Mr. Snowden on Sunday as the source for their articles.

In his interview with The Guardian, Mr. Snowden said his job had given him access to myriad secrets that the United States government guards most jealously, including the locations of Central Intelligence Agency stations overseas and the identities of undercover agents working for the United States.

But he said he had been selective in what he disclosed, releasing only what he found to be the greatest abuses of a surveillance state that he came to view as reckless and having grown beyond reasonable boundaries. He was alternately defiant and resigned, saying at one point that the C.I.A. might try to spirit him out of China, and speculating that it might even hire Asian gangs to go after him.

“If you realize that that’s the world you helped create and it is going to get worse with the next generation and the next generation and extend the capabilities of this architecture of oppression, you realize that you might be willing to accept any risks and it doesn’t matter what the outcome is,” Mr. Snowden said.

Some outside experts said the push in recent years to break down barriers between spy agencies and share information across the government had greatly expanded the universe of government employees and outside contractors with access to highly classified intelligence.

“In past years, someone like Snowden may not have had access to briefings detailing these collection programs,” said Cedric Leighton, a former deputy director of the National Security Agency, “but now with the push from a ‘need to know’ to a ‘need to share’ philosophy, it’s far more likely for an I.T. contractor like him to gain access to such documents.”

Mr. Snowden’s disclosures prompted some calls from Congress on Sunday to hold hearings about the surveillance programs or reopen debate on portions of the Patriot Act.

The disclosures also were published just as the Obama administration was grappling with the fallout from its many investigations into leaks to the news media. After it was revealed in May that the Justice Department had secretly obtained phone logs for reporters at The Associated Press and Fox News, criticism of the administration’s leak investigation was heightened. Mr. Obama said he was “troubled” by those developments, and ordered Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to review the Justice Department’s procedures for investigating reporters.

As part of that review, Mr. Holder and senior department officials have met with editors and media lawyers to try to assuage their fears that the administration is trying to silence the press. A day before The Guardian published its first article on how the government was collecting Americans phone data, Mr. Holder met with lawyers for several media outlets about legislation and other measures that may help protect reporters.

A White House spokesman declined to comment on Sunday. A spokesman for James R. Clapper Jr., the director of national intelligence, referred questions to the Justice Department. In a statement, the department said it was in the initial stages of an investigation into the matter, though it did not name Mr. Snowden.

In a weekend interview with NBC News, Mr. Clapper warned that the revelations could create serious risks to national security. “We’re very, very concerned about it,” he said. “For me, it is literally — not figuratively — literally gut-wrenching to see this happen, because of the huge, grave damage it does to our intelligence capabilities.”

Mr. Snowden, a native of North Carolina, told The Guardian that he signed up in 2003 for an Army Special Forces training program because he wanted to fight in Iraq.

“I felt like I had an obligation as a human being to help free people from oppression,” he said.

But he said he had quickly become disillusioned with the military.

“Most of the people training us seemed pumped up about killing Arabs, not helping anyone,” he said.

After breaking his legs during a training accident, Mr. Snowden was discharged from the Army and took a job as a security guard at an N.S.A. secret facility on the University of Maryland’s campus, according to The Guardian, which said it had confirmed his story.

Despite not having a high school degree, he was later hired by the C.I.A. to work on information technology security, serving in Geneva. In 2009, he joined the N.S.A. as a contractor at a facility in Japan, where, he said, he watched “as Obama advanced the very policies that I thought would be reined in.”

Most recently, Mr. Snowden has been part of a Booz Allen team working at an N.S.A. facility in Hawaii. Three weeks ago, he made final preparations to disclose the classified documents, The Guardian said. It said he had copied the documents and told a supervisor that he needed to take a few weeks off to deal with medical problems. He then flew to Hong Kong.

While it was not clear whether Mr. Snowden had remained in Hong Kong, if he had, his presence could complicate any possible American effort to extradite him for prosecution. A British colony until its return to China in 1997, Hong Kong retains autonomy from the mainland in its immigration system and its rule of law. Hong Kong has an independent immigration system, but it is part of China for purposes of foreign policy.

Hong Kong has an extradition agreement with the United States, in case American officials can provide a legal basis for seeking Mr. Snowden’s transfer to the United States. Hong Kong also has a very long tradition, dating back to British control, of close cooperation with the United States on criminal and criminal intelligence issues.

There was no indication in the Guardian article that Mr. Snowden had ever acquired legal residency in Hong Kong, so he would appear to be subject in principle to the 90-day limit that all American passport holders have for visa-free stays there.

Another complexity for Mr. Snowden is that the new administration of President Xi Jinping of China is pursuing better relations with the United States, including a meeting with Mr. Obama on Friday and Saturday in California, and may be more inclined than usual to put pressure on officials in Hong Kong to hand over Mr. Snowden.

On Sunday evening, Booz Allen released a statement confirming Mr. Snowden’s employment. “News reports that this individual has claimed to have leaked classified information are shocking, and if accurate, this action represents a grave violation of the code of conduct and core values of our firm,” the statement said. “We will work closely with our clients and authorities in their investigation of this matter.”

The revelation that Mr. Snowden worked for Booz Allen is perhaps the most awkward for Mike McConnell, a former head of the N.S.A. and director of national intelligence who in 2011 was promoted to vice chairman at Booz Allen. He is now responsible for driving Booz Allen’s cybercapabilities and advancing its relationship with his former agency.

Mr. McConnell said in an interview last year that the United States was not using its full capabilities to address threats from foreign cyberattacks because of privacy concerns.

“If you harness all the capabilities of our nation, you could have a better understanding of foreign threats,” he said. “But what makes it hard is that everyone has an opinion. There’s very little appreciation for the threat, and there are so many special interests, particularly civil liberty groups with privacy concerns. That mix keeps us from getting to the crux of the national issue.”

A $100,000 reward for information on the 1982 bombings of the Israeli Consulate in Sydney and the Jewish Hakoah Club at Bondi has been offered by the NSW government.

The reward follows breakthroughs in the bombing investigation by NSW Police and the Australian Federal Police attached to the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team.

“Through the course of the re-investigation into the bombings further information has come to light which could hold the key to identifying those responsible,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Police will release new information on the bombings later on Thursday.

The bombings on December 23, 1982, at the Israeli Consulate General in Sydney’s William Street, and in a vehicle parked in the car park of the Hakoah Club at Bondi, injured two people and caused significant damage.

The case was reopened in August last year, with NSW Police, the AFP, the NSW Crime Commission and ASIO involved.

Police have since established the gas cylinders that formed part of the bomb at the Hakoah Club had been stolen from Sydney’s Central railway station.

They have also identified a third person of interest, a woman, and two more vehicles linked to the two attacks.

An Arizona mother has found herself under fire after posting a video online showing her daughter breaking her feet while jumping off a roof on a dare in a bid to raise money for the injured teen.

Carrie Yunker, of Peoria, created a page on the popular crowdfunding site gofundme.com, asking the online community to help her raise $4,200 that will be used to cover her daughter Nicole Easton’s everyday expenses for the next several of months while she recovers from her injuries.

In a post on the fundraising site, Yunker explained that her daughter just graduated from high school, had a good job and had recently moved into her first home ‘as an adult’ when disaster struck.

One afternoon, Yunker worte, her daughter and her roommates ‘were being crazy young adults’ and decided to leap from the roof of their house into the backyard pool.

‘I’m surprised that Nicole would even try something like that,’ the mother said. ‘She’s not the very daring type.’

In the video of the incident posted by Yunker on YouTube, her daughter, dressed in a pink bikini, could be seen nervously laughing and squealing in terror on the roof alongside another girl as she is being incited to jump by her boyfriend, who had already taken a leap into the pool moments earlier.

At the last second,  Nicole hesitated and missed the pool, instead landing with a loud thud on the concrete deck, breaking both her feet.

In her online plea for help, Yunker explained that while her daughter did not have health insurance, her father was able to add her to his plan.

The accident landed the girl in a wheelchair, and she is expected to be disabled for the next six weeks, according to her mother.

Yunker then went on to explain that her daughter not being able to work for a while means that she would be unable to cover her share of the rent and bills, which could result in her losing her home.

The mother gave a breakdown of her daughter’s expenses, writing that she will need $1,800 for rent for half a year and $2,400 for expenses like food, toiletries, phone and utilities.

‘One way, or another she will survive,’ Yunker wrote. ‘But honestly Nicole could really use some financial help. Of course Her Father, and I will help. But We can only help so much.

‘I’ve always been a very giving person, and I believe you reap what you sow.’

But instead of an outpouring of support, Yunker was inundated with negative comments from people who expressed outrage that the family expected the Internet community to foot the bill for her daughter’s ill-advised stunt.

‘So we’re supposed to feel sorry for your daughter doing something stupid?’ Cory Noll wrote in the comments section of the crowdfunding account. ‘I’m only 27 and when I was young and did something stupid on my own, I had to pay for the consequences, not anyone else.

‘If anything, no one should donate and this will serve as a lesson for your daughter. She’s supposedly an adult now and she’ll have to pay the consequences for her stupidity.’

Yunker’s video of the incident got a similar reception on YouTube, where a user by the name thenhl15 fumed: ‘Actually, the scumbag thing to do is to expect other people to pay for your fantastically stupid mistakes.

Another commenter, John Proffer, slammed Nicole Easton as ‘idiot of the year.’

In reaction to the torrent of criticism she has received, Carrie Yunker made an attempt to defend herself on gofundme.com, explaining that she only started the account to help her daughter.

On Tuesday afternoon, she wrote: ‘I really feel sorry for all the people that are so negative. I’ve never had, or even took the time to post such mean comments. I’ll pray for each, and everyone of you as you sit , and type your negative comments to us.’

Yunker has seen removed the video of her daughter’s accident. Only five people have donated a total of $80 towards Nicole Easton’s expenses.

Cheerios has become embroiled in a race row after it released a national television advert of an interracial family enjoying the oat-based breakfast cereal.

The cereal-maker was forced to shut down the video’s comment board on its site after it was inundated with a torrent of racist abuse.

Some online commenters were so offended by the concept of a happy mixed-race family that they said the advert made them ‘want to vomit’.

The touching short features a mixed-race girl asking her white mother if Cheerios are good for the heart before running out of the kitchen when she is told that they are. The shot then cuts to her black father awaking from a nap on the sofa to find a pile of Cheerios on his chest.

While it is now impossible to verify any of the comments submitted, AdWeek reported that the comment section contained numerous references to Nazis, ‘troglodytes’ and ‘racial genocide’.

The Huffington Post reported that some commenters on the cereal’s Facebook page also said they found the commercial ‘disgusting’ and that it made them ‘want to vomit’.

One man expressed shock that a black father would stay with his family, writing: ‘More like single parent in the making. Black dad will dip out soon.’

A stream on Reddit went off on a debate about the accuracy or likelihood of the mixed-race family being made up of a black man and a white woman rather than a black woman and white man.

Mixed race couples undoubtedly appear more often in real life than they do on television though as the 2010 Census reports that it is becoming a bigger population and may reflect in marketing trends.

The census reported that nearly seven per cent of all married couple households in the United States feature partners of more than one race or ethnicity.
The percentage doubles when you include unmarried co-habitating couples, as 14 per cent of those are mixed race.

Others thought that it was a marketing ploy to drum up good publicity for the company rather than having any true emotional meaning behind the ad.

‘It has nothing to do with the company, the point is some casting agency/marketing department wanted a Carl Winslow, stereotypical upper/middle class white housewife, and a mixed girl,’ one Reddit user wrote.

NOT CHEERIOS’ FIRST RACE ROW

This is not the first time that Cheerios has sparked a race controversy, as a previous ad featuring two black siblings and their father received numerous racist comments.

In the June 2012 spot, the older brother steals the majority of his high chair-bound sibling’s cereal.

‘Just goes to show you they start steeling [sic] at an early age!!! First Cheerio’s next bikes then cars lol just like in real life,’ one Youtube user wrote in the comments.

‘Thinking outside the box is not an advertising M.O., their goal is to grab the widest audience’s attention. And that demographic is generally filled with the same artards that say they’re down with interracial couples as long as their offspring don’t become a part of one.’

However, despite the string of ugly comments made on YouTube and Facebook, many were quick to defend the advert, made by Saatchi & Saatchi in New York.

Kevin Mueller added on Facebook: ‘Every tv station in the US should play your bi-racial ad during every commercial break […] Time to help everybody find their way to 2013 since some are still stuck about 60 years [in the past]. Keep up the good work Cheerios!’

The vice president of marketing for Cheerios released a statement defending the ad after the backlash.

‘Consumers have responded positively to our new Cheerios ad. At Cheerios, we know there are many kinds of families and we celebrate them all,’ Camille Gibson said in the statement.

Whitney Avalon, the actress who plays the mother in the 30-second spot, has been featured in 47 national commercials and she felt the need to come out in support of the ad.

She posted on Twitter that she was ‘proud to play the mom in this adorable @Cheerios commercial!’
